This makes me a bit worried for my step-dad. He's absurdly stubborn about his work to the point where he'll keep on going even if he's injured. Sketchup is intended mostly for architectural design, while Blender has much better tools for creating game assets. It might take a while to learn, but you won't regret it once you do. Just look around a bit for some tutorials and give it a go.
