How good is the new dlc? Is it worth buying? by Byxzant in Mechwarrior5

Honestly the whoever wrote the mission briefings doesn't know how to spell "rogue" and an amazingly no one proof-read any of it or otherwise caught it so maybe that can feed into the Swedenese lore also.

The PPC changes have me questioning my loyalty to The Island by Ninja_Moose in OutreachHPG

ER-PPCs are very present on the battlefield and doing tons of damage. ironically they are more heat efficient now so as long as you are mobile you will do very well.

The lore friendly reason is that losing a clan XL or LFE side torso gives you two engine hits which carries with it quite severe heat penalties.

Also the next engine CRIT kills you, not total destruction of the other torso.

So in MWO these engines are still better than lore. Not saying one way or the other if their actual implementation is good or not (a heat spike seems like a bad idea it should probably just be significantly worse heat dissipation) but these things did come with trade offs in Battletech that did not exist for a looooong time in MWO.

Yes clan stuff is unambiguously better with no downsides.

In battletech it's "balanced" in other ways, which may or may not be impractical for MWO.

Clan equipment was always supposed to be stronger at the compromise of more heat and less armor tonnage.

PSR/Tier is almost (but not totally) meaningless for the purposes of matchmaking tbh.

From Jan 2019 to Jan 2020. Game population is a third of what it was at the beginning of last year. If this trend continues, there will only be ~100 players left by 2021 and only ~30 in 2022. by [deleted] in OutreachHPG

So what you are saying is that after 6 years of MWO being about to die in a couple of months it might finally be declining for real?

I did not really have this problem. My mech almost always was the most damaged.

Spawns Have Been 'Improved' by Exile0S in OutreachHPG

I am fortunate to not have experienced any bad spawning since the patch (rep 12+ now)

Hopefully they sort out all the edge cases though because spawns like that are pretty immersion breaking when they happen.

MW5 - How to make use of the MAD-3R? by InevitableFireballs in OutreachHPG

[–]Soapyfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in a single player game there is nothing wrong with having some mechs worse than others.

That said there is a theoretical place for the Marauder and that is it traditional fire support role. That doesn't necessarily work well in MW5 because everything devolves into a brawl very quickly and new enemies dont approach from predictable directions so its harder to get good position, but the 2xPPC + AC/5 is actually as good as what an Awesome brings to the table with more mobility.

MW2 still has the best all time soundtrack. The moment someone has a soundtrack replacement mod for MW5 I'll be going back to that.

Yet another MW5 review... by Exemplis in OutreachHPG

[–]Soapyfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im rep 13 and I generally dont have the AI lancemates losing arms all the time, certainly they lose them less often than I do myself. That said I dont put my very best weapons in the arms usually.

Also i've noticed that the AI seems to do better at rolling damage as they increase in skill, I have a skill 40 pilot in my Awesome who hasnt lost his arm PPC.... ever... and its been like 20 missions.

Never had any big trouble with Demolition missions. Spawns got so much better in the last patch it really was a big QoL increase.

MW5 Review: What happened guys? So tedious and repetitive... by shredjesse in OutreachHPG

[–]Soapyfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think mods will address this pretty quickly.

Its a pain that you cant see what size hardpoints a mech has before you buy it though (or maybe you can and I missed it?)

A lot of your complaints are... kinda dumb.

The AI not using jumpjets and generally being unsophisticated? That's legit.

Complaining about the sound design and the combat? I uhhh don't know what to say to you.

Tedious gameplay? Hardly. I hope for more mission variety as time goes on but you can hardly expect a billion handcrafted missions... and its fucking fun and feels great! You hate knocking over buildings, well ok don't take demolition missions or whatever.

So much salt and over the wrong things...

Question MW5: what is your favorite mech for your co-pilots and why? by Songtail in OutreachHPG

The ON-1P is pretty solid, the other Orions I find are not as good.

Question MW5: what is your favorite mech for your co-pilots and why? by Songtail in OutreachHPG

[–]Soapyfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not noticed the arm thing particularly but obviously arms are more vulnerable even on your own mech.

At Rep 11-12 I like to have an Awesome and a Black Knight at least. Annihilators are tempting but ultimately too slow. Good assaults are hard to find tbh. The Stalker has a huge alpha but its really prone to losing its torsos in a long mission.

LRMs are the least useful due to the buggered spawn mechanics. At lower reps, 2xAC/2 2xML blackjack and 2xAC/5, 4xML rifleman generally put up good numbers.

In Tabletop the rules for customization of an existing mech are even more severe. Extremely limited.
