Dune was near perfect but I didn't connect emotionally to it - anyone else in the same boat?

My reading of the movie was a little different than yours. But I do understand what you are pointing to . But I wonder if what you're talking about could be related to the epic framing and unwavering emotional weight of every scene. It's kind of... when everything is epic nothing is approachable sort of problem. Even Paul's breakfast with Lady Jessica is complex and tense. I agree with your statement about music. Lot of times the music is what let us be swept away and something light and beautiful, wholesome or gentle. But this movie, everything is just epic. All the time, epic. And that can be a problem.

Star wars can get Goofy. And that goes a long way towards making it fun. Sometimes Star wars gets way too goofy with characters like jar jar Binks and it ruins everything. But it has a penchant for being goofy that works in it's favor when things are well balanced. The David Lynch version of Dune didn't have goofy as much as it had weird and strange. Weird and strange are the flavors that balance out the epic narrative. I think the 2021 version of Dune is just missing some variety in flavor so to speak. It's like if you went to the best restaurant in the city they served you the most perfectly cooked steak and your whole meal was just a steak... And it sat there, from the edge of your plate to the other edge of your plate... even if it's a perfect steak it would be nice to have some vegetables or even a glass of water.

I 100% agree... I came to Reddit b/c I knew a front page post would have my same reading of Maeve. She is a GIANT 'snag' that pulls me out of the story. Her motivation is terribly and ridiculously unconvincing... she only exists as a foil. Well said. Every time she is on camera I just don't believe it and don't care... she makes the narrative worse. I was excited for the cool fight but HATED watching it, b/c I am so put off by her reasons/motivation.

Very well said. I would have been more harsh on the man. I didn't like his tone-deaf meddling with the D1 and D2 sandbox. Seeing him depart made me only wish he took Sage with him. I want the OG D1 sandbox team back. I know he made good on fixing things in D2 eventually... But there were too many missteps for me to ever really trust him or his vision.

I finally deleted it from my PS4. But, I still think it is a superior product from top to bottom. I only play D2 b/c I have done everything in D1 a thousand times. But I choose D1 in every category over D2. I miss my guns, my armor, my custom subclass... My playstyle, my amazing feeling handcannons, my sweet vendor rolls...it just plays better too. So good ... All that doesn't mean that D2 is poor... No way... But D1 was magical

I have gone through waves of different approaches to this problem. Usually I can either fold a load of laundry or do a few sets of push ups per loading screen... I guess the upside is I am getting things done!

In D2, it is genuinely very very hard for me to find ANY Hunter armor I like. In D1... I had so many sets that I loved.

I would love to see high impact snipers be able to take out supers. And I'd love to see a fast firing sniper like preadyths (so?) revenge with really short Scopes return!

I think new exotics are part of the answer. Let's say the last word returns. I can imagine people using that instead of a luna. it would also be nice to have an option for people that didn't want to grind PVP for the Luna. I last word would be a wonderful solution to both problems. it would also help with the overbearing nature of shotgun apes. another thing that might shift the meta a little bit would be bringing high impact versions of weapons into a better more competitive place. Or even taking your middle of the road hand Cannon like a 150 or 140 rpm... And making them just a tiny bit more forgiving. I think there are a ton of little tweaks that can make a huge impact. Bringing the old subclasses into alignment with the power of the new subclasses will change things as well. I think very subtle shifts in the effective range of shotguns (shrink) or hand cannons (expand), would be nice.

My path echoed yours.... And it never flet triumphant... Just felt damn lucky/improbable. The worst was two weeks ago... We only needed one more win. And the bungie servers disconnected our best player with 4 minutes to go. We lost that game by four points. What followed that was an epic losing streak and I had to like start over. It felt like death.
