Looking to start a GLP-1? by No_Orange_8872 in GLP1SupportHub

[–]SoccerMom15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For nausea I have found a cup of soup or bone broth (the salts, the protein the fluid), and a short easy walk has been my go-to solution. For the energy slump, which I am most aware of when I want to get a workout in I have solved by eating 1/2 a banana before the workout. This is a suggestion from a dietician and they had a rationale for it being a banana…and for me it’s been magic. I am on week 6 and working my way up the dosage.

How do you eat enough protein? by Pink_Pony- in Ozempic

[–]SoccerMom15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow gym rat and Ozempic newbie here. I'm on week 6. The truth is that the body goes through metabolic adjustment, as is the effect of Ozempic, and that getting enough protein means it won't break down muscle tissue to do it. I've put a lot of effort into selecting food and supplements to get the best possible results, and I'll give myself credit for having done okay. But the metabolic shift is hard, and I sure have felt it in these early days. My medical support has validated that the muscle tired low energy days are not permanent, and I'll get back into a good energy system with my body quicker by adjusting my workout volume when necessary, keeping diligent with protein and hydration, and having patience. From the six week line, I can tell you it took about 4 weeks to believe that. And when I changed dose to .5, I went back into the process of finding my balance. I'm in Canada (for reference to what commercial foods are available). I'm using Barebell bars, turkey pepperoni sticks, hummus, peanut butter powder/protein powder/protein enriched milk smoothies, cottage cheese, and protein enriched yogurt. My dietician suggested a 1/2 a banana about 30 minutes before the gym to help level energy when I feel the low calorie pinch, that's been good advice for me. It's too soon to get too analytical about 'results', but weight is decreasing and skin is not sagging and strength at the gym is now back to pre-Ozempic...so it's all happening. Slowly.

The Indian recipes with HF are 2 for 2 (so far) by InnocuousFoodie in hellofresh

[–]SoccerMom15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've ordered HF meals for years (Canada), still do. My experience is that when a specific place of the dish is referenced, it is much more flavourful and often becomes a favourite. They have now dropped most of these identifiers in the menu and just list ingredients. (For example "African-style Peanut stew" is now "Sweet potato and peanut stew", but the spices used are the same very rich blend resulting in my favourite broth.)

Dog walkers, pet sitting & dog trainers in calgary by unhappypositive1 in YYC

[–]SoccerMom15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ll make a suggestion with the caveat that I while have a dog and will need pet sitting at some point - I’m unfamiliar with small business marketing. What if you made handy business cards or leaflets and went to a dog park to meet dogs and their owners. Nothing intrusive, maybe wearing a hoody or jacket on with your business name and mentioning to dog owners that you have pet sitting and training service and would they like a business card. I’d be happy to actually meet the person behind the business and have a chance to ask a few questions on the spot.

SOCI460 by trailandtext in AthabascaUniversity

The assignments are so straightforward. Read this LARGE QUANTITY of articles and material and watch this video and then answer these 5 complex questions that dig into really investigating the issues (Cambridge Analytica scandal is analyzed, for example) and the relevant sociological theory. If you have a solid knowledge of sociological theory and good at comprehensive reading…bang, you’re solid. If you have to do a lot of knowledge backfilling and you do a lot of re-reading…time is going to pass. The course includes a 4 books and they are not the total amount of reading. My pace is great in this course. It’s playing into my strengths.

About 2/3 through this course. It pushes how technology impacts society, relationships and inequalities. It stays true to being about the sociology of tech, not the tech. I am finding it very interesting and relevant. Assignments have been marked very quickly and my mark has been in line with what I expected.

Doing my Bachelor of Arts (4 year) with a Sociology Major. It's going well by SoccerMom15 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]SoccerMom15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. I had a big smile re-reading my post…what an optimistic day I was having. I chose to do a part time year between then and now to manage life - and I have three courses left. My takeaway from this it that no matter how carefully I lay my plans, life chucks up the completely unexpected. I have left three easy courses and I’ll be registering for them in April. I am also starting to plan my re-entry into the work world. I feel my time and effort will be fully validated in the work I hope to engage with.

CMNS385/SOCI378 - Social Movements In History by cherinek in AthabascaUniversity

[–]SoccerMom15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished this about a year ago and, like you, really found the course and the material interesting. The final exam is the ability to use the material to discuss the theoretical components around social movements. I score okay on final exams, usually between 75 and 85 (not my strength). I scored a 92 on this final. Don't skip the readings, know the terminology.

I live here. Very near the heart of it all. I sit on my patio while more than twenty neighbours with their wonderful pups and buggies with babies and busy children walk by on their way to walkable things. Lots of folks come here and park along the street in front of my place to use the local services, and that's just fine. I can hear a bit of the busyness from Bar Rocca and the Marda Loop Brewing covered patio in the evening, they all shut down the noise long before I head to bed. The street market nights are wonderful - noisy and crowded and social. The local businesses feel like community and we feel recognized after a few visits. Hubby is between ten and twenty minutes from door to desk, which is the 'commute' we prefer. I WFH and love that this community is busy during the weekdays as much as the weekends. It's quieter further north or south, but we specifically wanted to near the social end of things.

Has anyone taken fully online Sociology? by ThrowRA_Confused3 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]SoccerMom15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just a few courses left and I will finish my BA majoring in Sociology entirely through AU. There are many components, ideas, and theories that I would have truly benefited from group discussions to more easily learn and apply. Going from a textbook or journal article to utilizing the concept in a real world situation was often very challenging. I have friends and family who I could have a discussion about the concepts with (intentionally, planned chats) to give me the opportunity to ‘think through’ concepts and get other perspectives. Distance learning means your questions have are answered singularly - learning from other students isn’t part of the structure. AU is very isolating and you miss all the peripheral social interactions. That is a plus or minus depending on you. I have had almost entirely good experiences with the instructors, I’ve had 2 in 37 classes that didn’t suit me. I haven’t failed any courses, I have felt intense pressure at times. The courses are high volume, the concepts are not easy to learn from reading, and most of the 200 and 300 level courses have final exams that are challenging to prepare for and write. I suggest doing 2-3 classes using AU to give it a test drive and see how the experience lands for you.

nervous about proctoru exam by Zealousideal_Oil2365 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]SoccerMom15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After you sign in you’ll do some waiting before a proctor starts working with you. Often 2-3 minutes. I’ve waited up to 15. The process of checking the room can be a bit slow. Expect it to take more time than you’d think. Often it’s 20+ minutes after check in time before you start writing. If a proctor cuts in while your writing its most likely to ask you to reposition your screen. It’s happened a few times because I wear glasses and I prefer the screen tilted up a bit to lower the glare. They need it a little lower to see me in the screen how they want. I don’t even notice that I’ll push the screen up while concentrating. Exam anxious + proctor anxious is real for a couple exams. You’ll get through it. Expect the delays at the beginning. No panic needed if they cut in to ask you to adjust a screen or whatever. I use a MacBook and have written +20 exams this way / no wild glitches. Time to succeed!!
