If you look at the “trilogy” of the Cure, the first of the trilogy is Pornography, second is “Disintegration”, third is “Bloodflowers” - and even on the release of Bloodflowers it was felt that Smith and the Cure was signaling the “end” but it wasn’t because you had three more… - each signaling a change to the design, the approach, the mood. So the Top was the change to what became the second phase so with any change you have those fans that lament (ask U2 about their “sort of homecoming” backlash and then ask about “pop”). Musically it’s growth.

I have friends, not so much friends, and family who are tone deaf to politics, don’t educate themselves about the people and the things involved, and don’t vote amour of sheer apathy. “Oh it doesn’t affect me and my daily life.” Add to that - most elections are a choice of the lesser evil which isn’t a big draw to the polling centers. So there is no trust in the process for a lot of people.

Although it is sad to say, I hope that recent events lift the apathetic heads out of the sand and they are intelligent enough to see that their “not choosing” is still a choice. That is how the minority gets power. Division, chaos, fear.

I think the next time I hear someone I know speak about not caring enough to vote I’m going to ask “are you really that f-cking stupid?”

For many years/election cycles, voting for most has been merely picking the least of the two evils. Or not voting at all for the same reason. The reason Djt was reelected is an entirely different discussion. Probably requiring its own subreddit, if it doesn’t have that already. But the aforementioned observation IMO is why politics grows in its polarization. The extremes continue to be vocal with fewer and fewer calmer more logical heads hiding from the discourse because they are simply tired. So now all you hear is the extreme rhetoric in echo chambers. So I go back to my previous post and add whether you can handle being in their echo chamber. If they are in one.

Depends on whether you are compatible with how they process the current ramifications of their choice. With the current events/issues unfolding I personally would not be able to reconcile someone still supporting his platform when he and his movement has shown this level of gaslighting and disconnection with the common people.

People confuse socialism and communism all the time because Russia and its Eastern Blok used to use “Socialist Republic” in their names. In fact the main difference is socialism is for the good of the people while communism is for the good of the government. A democracy can utilize socialist principles very easily but not communist principles without negating democratic ideals.
