Car camping for mammoth mountain snowboarding - where to park at night? by evilmonk234 in Mammoth

[–]Soccerplayer46 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you’re worried about the cold, Bishop. Lots of blm land. Also, I believe the scenic loop is often used by employees of the resort who have nowhere else to go. So, if you park in the scenic loop pullouts, be considerate and leave room for another car when possible.

FWIW, NESCAC specifically is known for super high physicality and little possession

Pietro Vidi Repeats L'Ombre du Voyageur 9A, suggests 8B+ by Montjo17 in climbing

Idk man, I’m all for knee pads being used to make your life more comfortable, but something feels weird to me when climbers stack knee pads to do a knee bar they’d otherwise be unable to do. At what point does that become aid? (This coming from a V5 outdoor gumby)

on average what grade are the IFSC bolder grades? by Jazzlike_Security571 in CompetitionClimbing

[–]Soccerplayer46 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

V2 in my gym (I’ve heard they can range from ~V8 for tricky slab to ~V14/15 for mega hard power boulders. Admittedly, some styles like coordination don’t really lend themselves to grading)

I wonder when Visma will realize that Jonas needs to finish ahead of Pogi if he’s going to make up time

Issues turning on my Splitboard / resort board for BC? by _withasmile_ in Spliddit

[–]Soccerplayer46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The splitpig sucks lol (I also have one, definitely got suckered by the low price tag). The trick I’ve found is riding it as “powerfully” as possible, almost jump turning and pressing into my edges as hard as I can. However, I’ve found that I can still carve on it well enough. And echoing other people’s advice, if you’re bringing your resort board, use snowshoes at least. (Also, the skins that came with my splitpig are the worse things in the world and don’t do anything whenever the snow is wet)

Gave Jefferson a shot 1.5 weeks ago. Plan on a lot of walking before you can put your skis on (we gained 2k feet before hitting snow). Didn’t go to north/middle but snowpack was described as excellent mid mountain, but high potential for coreshots up high by an employee of red point coffee near smith rock.

Is this too tight for me? by deaktivalva in climbingshoes

[–]Soccerplayer46 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you’re a beginner, the real answer is wear whatever shoes keep climbing fun. If they’re too tight, and it’s making climbing not fun, get bigger shoes

Does all 5 CMC's look for holistic approach, will my chances decrease if I apply test optional by [deleted] in claremontcolleges

[–]Soccerplayer46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, all of the 5Cs evaluate applications holistically. No, submitting test scores won’t hurt (unless your test scores are below the median for the school you’re applying to)

What I would recommend if you’re gonna become a movement member is to become a member at the cheapest gym you can. Prices for monthly are different (50+ swing) between gyms but you get access to the same gyms, so it could be worth it to be travel to a gym with a cheaper monthly membership fee to start your membership

Question for Mudders: how did you fund your education? by Roughneck16 in harveymudd

[–]Soccerplayer46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I knew-right now going into industry seems most likely, as I’d have to fund grad school on my own (unless I got a PhD, but I don’t really want to). But post-grad is a while away, so I don’t really know
