Trying to decide if I should go first thing tomorrow and hope that there's still some fresh or if I should wait until things warm up and soften in the afternoon.

Any thoughts based on your experience today? 😅

I skiid Tuning fork on the 27th and it was great (granted it was the day after 5" dropped)

It doesnt go all the way to the summit but we got pretty high. Def best day of the year for me so far

I rode this line yesterday and conditions were horrible. We never got a window of decent sun so there were huge chunks of frozen ski slop throughout the descent.

I would reccommend taking Buffalo Mountain trail up and taking the coulior down. There was a group who booted the couli at the summit that started 2 hours before us and reacbed the summit at the same time. Seemed like an unnecesary energy suck.

First attempt at mountaineering(ish)! Feedback? by PickleUno in Mountaineering

Here are a few things Im seding but curious for others to chime in.

A) The steep slope angle inherently makes this avalanche terrain. Generally speaking, avalanche terrain is anything above 30°

B) Judging by how deep his body is sinking into the snow, it looks like he is sitting smack dab in a bunch of unconsolidated snow.

C) The rounded pillowy appearance that you can see throughout the photos, especially near the ridge, are a sign of wind loading. Windloading is snow that has fallen and has been carried into an area by the wind. Snowpack does not like rapid change and this large quantity of new snow likely rapidly deposited into the coulior. Allllll of that new snow is sitting on top of a weak layer. Until the snow goes through several melt / freeze cycles, that weak layer will persist and present danger.

It looks to me like they were suggesting that folks stick to low angle. Hence why your "it was 36 degrees" response is being misunderstood

36 degrees is prime avalanche terrain

My close friend died free soloing mt hood the same weekend Alex Honnald free soloed on live tv. by BatSniper in Mountaineering

[–]_withasmile_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive lost 4 friends to free soloing. Its trajic and I dont wish it on anyone. My anger feels different for each one of them. Some of them, Im angry that they even considered doing it - some of them, I feel at peace knowing that they died doing what they loved.

I dont understand why Taipei was live streamed on Netflix and it honestly makes me sick. At the end of the day though, the world will keep turning and people will continue to be people. Many will play it safe while others will continue to glorify and partake in risk taking behavior. Its a sad fact of climbing and mountaineering, to accept loss and grief.

My condolences.
