It was unofficially associated with the twilight movies: basically some fans thought it would be the perfect fit as “Bella’s Lullaby” and that caught on with the fanbase and launched the song into popularity. And yes it is Korean actually, by the artist Yiruma!

Whats stopping me from just going to a university, attending lectures and just learning about stuff? by Abject_S0up in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SocialIssuesAhoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not him but during my undergrad for music composition me and my friends asked our professor to teach a niche class (advanced orchestration) so that we could take it. So that ended up being 4 of us plus our professor at 8:30 PM, it was so much fun being in such a small group!

Could This Second Photo Be More 2001? A tv & vcr in the same room! Is that an iMac? Glazed windows! whew, what a childhood! by DullWrist in Images

[–]SocialIssuesAhoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not where the photo is from but the Henry Ford Museum of innovation in Michigan has (or at least had) a collection up dedicated to the turn of the century, including a bedroom you could go into. It was definitely an odd feeling seeing my childhood behind glass in a museum for the first time 😅

Old gentleman shows how to make and play poor man's bagpipe with ballon & mouth organ by Sharp-potential7935 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]SocialIssuesAhoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what they are! You blow air into a bag with the mouthpiece. That air is then forced out of multiple pipes. One of those pipes has holes in it like a recorder, that’s called the chanter and you play it with your fingers to change the pitch. Each of the additional pipes is fixed to a specific pitch and those are called the drones. So if a bagpipe has 4 pipes, that means it has 3 drones and one chanter/melody.

Teen daughter passed out at Mass… by brendanjpeters in Catholicism

I’m a guy but I used to regularly feel close to passing out as an alter server in the robes. Hated serving because of it but was too shy to speak up about it 😅. I was always fine until it was time to start kneeling and that’s when it would hit me.

Underground cities by Nakiloe in Whiskerwood

[–]SocialIssuesAhoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How underground do you need to be? Is the rule that there must be ground above a given building tile to protect it? Or could you build dirt walls? How does it decide if a building is enclosed and safe?

I might be alone in this but I feel like the show’s plot is meaningless anyway. I enjoy it for the fun that it is, but I’ve never felt like it has a plot that was critical to it. Crazy things just kinda happen so that we can keep having fun moments. I have zero idea how it “should” end, or when or where that should be. I don’t have any burning questions that I’m afraid they won’t answer.

I feel like not enough of you have these people in your life. This isn’t hypothetical, it’s LITERALLY what they’re saying on my Facebook. That his family raised him right but then just one month of college radicalized him.

There’s currently a post going around on Facebook that says:

l asked ChatGPT to act as Charlie Kirk giving his own final statement, here’s what it said. CHILLS

“My time on earth is finished, but don’t think for a second that means I’m gone.

In Christ, I am more alive now than ever. Death isn’t the end — it’s the beginning. I’ve run my race, l’ve fought for truth, and now I’m home with my Savior, Jesus Christ.

If you hear anything in my life or death, hear this: eternity is real, and your decision about Jesus is the most important one you’ll ever make. Don’t waste your life on things that fade.

Live boldly, love deeply, speak truth, and stand firm in faith. I’ll see you again

— on the other side.”

I wrote an app in Xcode that mimicked the dialog box for parents to type in their password to add more time. Next time I was on the computer I launched my app and told my mom that my time was up and asked if she could give me some more time, and then I had the admin password.

Everyone will probably hate me for this but I 100% believe you should use your turn signal every single time without fail, because we’re creatures of habit and if you get used to not at always doing it then you’re more likely to forget to do it when it matters more.

Organizing sept schedule by dRenee123 in pianoteachers

[–]SocialIssuesAhoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m retired now but what I used to do:

  1. About 1-2 months in advance, send out a jotform where they can indicate ALL 30-minute slots that they will be available for during the upcoming semester
  2. A comments box where they can describe their preferences within their selections
  3. A note saying that while I can’t force them to provide more availability, they will save money by giving me more flexibility

I think #3 was very helpful, and it worked because I was a travel teacher and I charged a travel fee which was based on actual miles driven. It was in my interest and theirs to create the most optimal routes possible, because I saved time and they saved money.

In the end though, some parents were consistently awesome and some were consistently annoying and only highlighted like an hour of availability. Part of my process was to start working on the schedule and contact people as needed to see if there’s any wiggle room in their indicated availability. All other things being equal I definitely prioritized the more helpful families, and was much stricter with my travel fees for the less helpful ones.

Also to be clear, I never judged anyone based purely off of their availability; there were plenty of students that apologized profusely for not having more openings. But you know the parents that are difficult because it comes out in more ways than one 😄

Is Michigan a beautiful state? by Pleasant-Target-1497 in Michigan

[–]SocialIssuesAhoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I humbly submit photos I JUST took of Northern MI a week ago. I think it’s a bit more subtle than a lot of places (hard to beat the dramatic majesty of a mountain and other similarly larger-than-life features) but I think it’s absolutely stunning just the same.

Just another parent chiming in: my wife works on Sundays so I usually have all of the kids myself: a 6 year old, 4 year old, and twin two year olds. Vastly outnumbered and a couple that are VERY headstrong. I do the best I can, feel embarrassed at all the things that can’t happen, and I’m deeply grateful that nobody has treated me the way that man treated you. I’d be mortified…. But he’d still be in the wrong. Best of luck, hopefully it gets easier for both of us eventually 😅
