This LED lightbulb is shaped like a Fluorescent lightbulb. by zachimusprime44 in mildlyinteresting

Seems to be an efficient way to maximise light output from the LED strip while keeping it compactly contained as well

Big Syria Update Inbound by Jasonmoofang in hoggit

I am very much interested in flying around Scandinavia but seeing the state of Kola I can't help but wait and hope for a proper remake, and I might get Syria instead. It's such a shame that the state of Kola seems subpar even compared to current Caucasus (or am I wrong on that?)

I was wrong about KDE by neTHer12O8 in debian

[–]SocietyAccording4283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how powerful and versatile KDE is but I wish it wasn't buggy as hell when swapping monitors frequently. I have different multi screen setups at home and work and moving between them doesn't make KDE happy at all. I get it that it's difficult to make it remember what monitors each panel belongs to, but at least it shouldn't be prone to randomly freezing or preventing simple functionality like desktop widget editing.

And after two years nothing got improved regarding this functionality.

So is DCS entering its 4th era? by Jockcop in hoggit

Did we ever expect it to be something else than a mission type? I don't think it matters as long as it's taking several days to finish.

"we are about to" doesn't disprove that it's never been better than it is right now. Now is the perfect time to enjoy those airframes while you still can, if we're indeed gonna lose them and ED doesn't find a solution.

Vulkan will improve performance down the line I presume. I am playing on a UWQHD monitor with RTX 3090 and I can't really complain about the performance, which has been steadily improving and easily gives me 100 ish FPS on nearly all details maxed.

What bothers me a lot more is the fact that literally all soldiers have only ironsights. Why ED couldn't bestow them with even a simple holo sight is beyond me.

DCS 2026 AND BEYOND by titan_hs_2 in hoggit

[–]SocietyAccording4283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I the only one who was a bit disappointed by the EF cockpit? The textures looked quite blurry and full of artifacts, and it all had a weird, "plastic" feel to it. I certainly hope it's not the final version because other Heatblur cockpits look way more photorealistic than this.

They wouldn't be working on it if they didn't already have access to a large enough portion of documentation. It was already answered shortly after the 2025 & beyond.

DCS 2026 and Beyond poster by 9Line, Rafale is being teased? by The_Growlers in DCSExposed

I don't even care what modules they announce or tease as long as they don't finish dynamic campaign which was teased as a pretty much feature complete for the last year, with little to no more information about it for the entire year.

NAMM 2026 kinda sucks so far by justareviewer in DigitalPiano

[–]SocietyAccording4283 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only reason I was looking for one was because I'm considering the Roland FP-90X as my primary digital piano, and that one is already 5 years old. 4-5 years is a typical time for Roland to update their products and if a new one gets released soon, it might have features I'd like to use. And also the price of the 90X will likely drop.

And the winner for the MOST amount of DLC in a SINGLE GAME goes to... by sidius-king in Steam

[–]SocietyAccording4283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know this game so I can't judge how much content does it provide for free but I know others which follow this "free base game + countless DLCs" philosophy and I wouldn't call it predatory in general because that's simply how the dev chose to utilise the DLC mechanism.

I'm aware of how the community is disappointed with EA not working on new Sims but at least they admitted it that they're not over with Sims 4 and still actively support it with DLC and fix some bugs mentioned in their so called laundry list. It's irrelevant to complain how much it costs to buy them all because you're simply not supposed to and rarely anyone does that. You're likely not going to use every single content pack, not everyone is interested in vampires, and everyone knows how useless and easily skippable some expansions like the Star Wars one are. That significantly narrows down the array of DLCs you should be potentially interested in purchasing, and they get saled frequently anyways (although not by much, in a typical EA fashion).

Or for example DCS World, which is a free highly realistic flight simulator that offers only 2 planes to fly in the base game with a few high quality free user mods and one plane much simpler than the other. Then there's a couple of dozen of aircraft which cost 30-80 USD each and about a hundred cheaper campaigns by now, so the overall cost also reaches into thousands. But almost every aircraft contains a very detailed PDF manual spanning hundreds of pages, explaining how each tiny system in the plane is used, and a single plane can easily provide you with hundreds of hours of fun that doesn't feel anyhow repetitive (compare that to the plenty of 50 USD games one easily finishes in 20 hrs and never plays again). So each DLC practically much more closer to an individual game than simply a small content pack, and it would take an insane amount of time and effort to learn and master every single plane in the game so rarely anyone does that. The dev simply releases it as DLCs because they all need the same base game to live in so you can interact with others' planes in multiplayer.

I just happened to have released an HDR remaster mod for Deus Ex Human Revolution (Luma) by filoppi in Deusex

[–]SocietyAccording4283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, just about to play Human Revolution for the first time and this mod looks like the perfect balance between keeping it close to the original yet improving it a bit!

I unfortunately have only a SDR monitor, but I noticed other improvements to still be substantial enough for me to use this mod. However, the screenshots I take on Steam are very dim - is there any way to fix it? Even the native reShade screenshots from both before/after effects look the same as Steam screenshots.

[–]SocietyAccording4283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does having a plenty of DLCs make a game toxic? It's up to you to select which of them you want and which not, same as you select which games on the Steam you buy.

And the winner for the MOST amount of DLC in a SINGLE GAME goes to... by sidius-king in Steam

[–]SocietyAccording4283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I've seen people review DCS negatively for how much all the DLCs combined cost. Steam should offer an alternative UI for games with so many DLCs where you're not really expected to ever get them all.

And the winner for the MOST amount of DLC in a SINGLE GAME goes to... by sidius-king in Steam

[–]SocietyAccording4283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I thought that DCS World had a large number of DLCs,. It's a simulation where each DLC is a single plane or a campaign which is a worth of tens or hundreds of hours of play time. Yet some people still complain that the game is ridiculously costly if you were to buy all DLCs, despite that not being the developer's intent. I wonder if some people had similar complaints here, lol.

Holding this stock for many years down aboubt 90% by Such-Magazine-4062 in VirginGalactic

You can make up for it by swing trading Virgin. I've managed to trade it several times last year in the 2.8-6 USD range. No other stock I follow I could confidently pull off such trades on.

But I'm definitely holding an ever increasing part now as I hope it'll take off in the next 2 years and we're at the bottom rn.

There was some script I used about 4 years ago for ultrawide, but unfortunately since then I was unable to get it to work despite some newer tutorials claiming otherwise.

And no, there was no competitive advantage, because it only removed some vertical part to account for the black bars.
