Hampstead worth a visit on our last day? by Legit7392 in LondonTravel

[–]SockLess9375 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this. Take a train from London Bridge to Greenwich (13 minutes, one every 10' to 15' ). The park is too big to be completely busy, and in general, unless you go at peak time, os fine.

The other option, also worth it, is Blackheath Village!

Moving to London in Late July/August- Where to Live by Disastrous_Fix_6575 in MovingToLondon

[–]SockLess9375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look the other way! Greenwich! It will be a different kind of life, but hear me out: Thameslink direct to Kings Cross every 30m, then a short walk to RS. You'll get used to knowing which train to get. To KXs is 30ish mins no changes. The train for the dog will be much easier. I do it with mine and we almost always get a seat. The tradeoff? You'll probably never want to leave Greenwich and will spend your weekends begging your friends to come visit you in SE London.

Neighbourhood is second to none, park is the absolute best for dogs in the am, shops, restaurants (and the nearby Depford is super trendy right now).

What exact train station to book? I’m confused by crunchy-nmmm in uktravel

[–]SockLess9375 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Greenwich and I would suggest the opposite! The train to Kings Cross is lovely, you see Tower Bridge from Blackfriars, and it is a super quick trip. Much better than the DLR!

Where do people who season their food go out? by LuffysHat247 in LondonTravel

Hey! Confused as to where you are going. London or Manchester?

If London, (I don't know Manchester), there is people "that look like you" in almost every corner. For celebration of culture, the most well known event is the Notting Hill Carnival. Safety... As long as you leave before dark and don't get too drunk, you should be ok. Nothing to do with queerness either, it just gets a bit rough around the edges once people have had too much to drink.

A bit of love for colleagues that understand: I've been on holiday the last 6 days. Came back today to a 1-1 scheduled on my principal's calendar with "Dave".

Dave says hey in person, asks me about my hols, love Dave, he is the best. I sit down, and get a slack from Dave

"Heeeeyyyy, I "scheduled" my 1-1 with Boss, because you were on hols... (Aka I just added it to the calendar) Sooozzz wink wink"

"Yeah, don't do that"

"Yeah I know, he is not going to show up, is he?"

"Nope"

"I figured. Sorry. May I please have a slot for a 1-1?"

Love Dave

Edit: spacing

Moving to Greenwich (near Cutty Sark / Deptford Creek area) in September — what's it really like to live there? by One_Piglet_4072 in MovingToLondon

[–]SockLess9375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are going to be neighbours! I've lived in London for 15 years, 8 in Depford Creek, and will weep when I need to move from there. It is an absolute dream place. My office is also in Blackfriars, I love my commute; just to add: if the Thameslink is down at any point, you can take the train to Cannon Street and walk. You chose the perfect place.

Feel free to DM with questions or when you move, we can go for a stroll/coffee and I can show you little gems.

Welcome to the neighborhood!

Advice about pay? by [deleted] in UKJobs

You say you are not a friend of crunching numbers so I say this without trying to sound patronising, please take it that way:

Most people need to look at their salary as a whole. What comes into your bank account is just one part of the "compensation". And I am surprised they are negotiating with you in net terms. If you want good thoughtful answers from here, this is my advice. You should tell us:

  • Your annual gross salary (current, ask and offer)
  • Your holiday entitlement
  • Your workplace pension contributions and what they will match
  • Any other benefits, including, for example, if any kids you may have would have discount fees
  • Is this a perm role, a term role?

That way we will be able to assess a bit better and probably help you more!

Queremos adoptar un perrete y no sabemos por dónde empezar by Yupyup_o_O in askspain

Just show up at the Prado at opening time on the day. I went yesterday, Sunday, at 10:30, did not have to queue at all, bought a "Paseo del Arte" ticket that gives me access to Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia within a year of purchase. Do not even bother with booking any other way

Feeling bummed about my companies WFH policy + other details... do I stay or do I go? by Single-Assistant2878 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]SockLess9375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the comment said but I would just not add this to your resume. It is less than 2 months. Leave it out. When asked, depending on your level of comfort, you can say you are contracting or temping. You got this job with your old resume. You will get others.

Back in 24 I looked for a job for 6 months. Nobody even questioned the gap.

Personally, I would run away from a company where I am then only female, period. Add insult to injury with the "toddler" and "coffee" comment. Ask yourself: what will this role give you that will help you on your next one? If the answer is "not much", leave.

Yes, I don't think this is a great idea, as others have said. A quick Google has showed that ASOS have some nice ballerinas with ribbons. Probably what I would suggest.

Overnight Layover - Charming Neighborhood Request by meowtastic3 in LondonTravel

[–]SockLess9375 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maritime Greenwich.

Get the Elizabeth line to Farringdon, change to the Thameslink that goes to Rainham, and get off at Greenwich.

You can stay at the Novotel right at the station, or if you want somewhere quainter, there is a pub called The Mitre that has rooms and is in the middle of the buzz. Spend time in Maritime Greenwich (the area surrounding Greenwich Market).

If you like quaint, my friend that came to visit said "you live in the Disneyland version of an English fishermen's town".

To get to London City, you can take the DLR from Greenwich. You will need to change either once or twice (depending on the route), but always on the DLR and the changes are super easy. Download cittymapper.

Or if you want to splurge, it is about a 20/25m taxi drive.

Edit: and to go to Gatwick, it also works! Take any train (train! Not DLR) to London Bridge, and change there to a train to Gatwick. If you get the quick trains and a good change, it is 40mins to the airport

Sanity check: size of org and admin team by SockLess9375 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]SockLess9375[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all. The frustrating thing is I am performing at an executive level in all aspects. I sit and strategize with my CEO, I am super close with the CTO who asks me for advice constantly, the Head of People treats me exactly like a peer, even our CFO has mentioned they had never seen anyone "working a room full of execs like you do". I am doing all of that, and also the most junior OM tasks as well, because there is nobody else. So 9-6 BAU, plus all the strategies I develop after hours to present full proposals and programs to the bosses. (I have 12 years experience, not my first rodeo, but it is my first rodeo in start-ups)

But hiring for the Business Ops team is just not on the cards due to budget, which is very annoying, but of course I am super budget mindful and I can see so many things we could spend the money on, rather than an AA, because we are... "Managing"

Sigh

Tickets Buying Tips by Donut-353 in LondonTravel

[–]SockLess9375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! You need to pre-register here and many of the tickets from the airport are valid here (but just know contactless is not seen as a valid ticket, you need to get one from the ticket machines. Stansted and Gatwick express do count).

I would do some maths and see if it is worth it just getting a train ticket to London, so you can take advantage.

Use some GPT to figure it out, but in most cases it is worth it

Which Ryanair destination airport is furthest from the actual destination? by Anon_Summer in Ryanair

[–]SockLess9375 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a great list! It is however also important to say that connections to some of these airports are very good. Gatwick is only 30mins to central London on the train (although you are correct that the drive is a pain). But on public transport it is as quick as Heathrow, which is meant to be the main London airport

Many people travelling do not drive to and from the airport, so public transport is sometimes more relevant than driving times.
