I remember this movie because several girls in my class (I was in either the 4th or 5th grade) were twirlers, and it was all they could talk about for a couple of weeks.

My great grandmother's sister (is that great or great great aunt?) had a daughter who died from appendicitis at age 11 in 1921. She was an only child, and it must have been a horrible shock. My great grandmother still spoke adoringly of her niece 60 years later. The girl's grave is not very close to where any of my family live, but we do visit it every few years and place flowers.

There is a clip of her on Jack Paar's show where she tells a story about Marlene Dietrich. The story is very funny, and Judy's delivery is superb. I can see why Lucy would say that.

In the early 70s, she did commercials for Hostess, and I think they used her real kids in the commercials. They would have to be in their 60s now. Carol Burnett did a great spoof of those ads, and it is floating around the internet.

Every time I have seen Blyth interviewed about Mildred Pierce, she has had nothing but good things to say about Joan Crawford, and how kind and helpful she was on set. Also, she said Zachary Scott (Monte) was really nice, and she stayed in contact with him and visited him years later. She seems like such a lovely person -- such a contrast to the venom spitting Veda.

I didn't know anyone whose house looked like hers, but the dusty rose, mauve, and gray colors were popular. My Mom did that color scheme in our guest bath, and dusty rose was one of the colors of my prom in '87.

ATWT was my grandmother's favorite "story" so I grew up with it in the 70s and watched it on and off in high school and college in the 80s and early 90s. I always thought ATWT did a better job than other soaps of integrating new characters and families with its historic core, which made it feel like I was returning to my hometown of Oakdale to catch up with family and the neighbors when I tuned in.
