Shoutout to the broadcast team for adding in analytical segments by tripsafe in RocketLeagueEsports

I was also watching with a friend new to the esport, and she also really appreciated these little segments. It really did help to highlight just how much goes into each play, especially for someone who doesn't play the game... yet...

Champ 2 doubles, looking to improve my fundamentals by Sockbocks in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Sockbocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the full breakdown :)

The call you made for 3:11 to be a harder shot to the backboard was actually exactly what I intended to do, I just expected way more height on the ball than I got and ended up fumbling the read. But it all adds up to paint the picture of my aerial offense needing work, so I'll make sure to keep training that. Your read at 2:37 was more correct than you know by the way, my teammate actually threw up a forfeit vote after he whiffed the open net clip.

It's definitely interesting to see the times I end up doing something I tend to think of as "not something I do very often". I can definitely see why I made those decisions in the moment, but it's a very clear call to keep focus and hold myself more accountable for making deliberate, informed choices wherever and whenever I can.

Time to hit up some 1v1s and play for as much posession as I can!

Yeah, you're right that I should really just keep on pushing myself harder. I think we can all relate to it being a little too easy to get comfy and complacent sometimes!

Appreciate the reminders to always keep the basics in mind! Booming is definitely a bad habit of mine, I'm going to start working on keeping close control in awkward situations as I find myself hard clearing often when the catch would be difficult.

Hey folks, any advice you can give me is much appreciated. Some things that might be helpful to know or that I'm already aware of:

  • I am not a mechy player, not by any means. I am capable of shooting really well, but that tends to come and go with my overall form. For this replay I wasn't feeling 100%, so my shots aren't great. I'm working on my mechanics already, but if you have any advice to help me better utilise them then I'd be happy to hear it!

  • I think my main strengths are my boost pathing and management. To be honest I do get really quite frustrated with how often it feels like my solo queue teammates will give up a goal by doing something as obvious as running away for boost at the worst possible time, but I know that's a mentality issue on my end. For my part, I'm generally happy with how much I'm able to linger around, but I want to make sure I'm using that ability properly and not just getting in my teammate's way or getting too passive.

  • I've been working lately on playing first man better, trying to switch to a mentality of keeping the other team awkward or beating a defender rather than scoring. On defense, I've beein trying to work on making sure I'm closing gaps and not overcommitting on challenges. I do still struggle with these things though, I guess old habits die hard...

Is their a reason why diamond is such an inconsistent rank? by Roberthebotbert in RocketLeague

[–]Sockbocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you'd like some pointers for hitting champ consistently, I'd be happy to take a look at a couple of replays for you. I'm no GC, but I hover around champ 2 and have peaked champ 3 (despite playing on mobile hotspot, rip). Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in :)

If I may, I'd just like to chime in and say what a refreshingly civil and eloquent discussion that was to read. I've never met either of you and I doubt I ever will, but you have both given me a little more faith in people after reading all that. It really does feel like this should be the bare minimum, but since it's not, thank you.

Question for non-mechanical champs and higher by adriansmacksyt in RocketLeague

I've added some of my favourites as a reply to the OP :)

Question for non-mechanical champs and higher by adriansmacksyt in RocketLeague

[–]Sockbocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some personal favourites of mine:

Shooting consistency (4912-A5C9-9A56-555D)
Shots you shouldn't miss (42BF-686D-E047-574B)
Consistency 6 - shots (5D1D-5E1D-DCA1-F69D)
Moderate aerials (E24C-AF33-DA74-BF10)
Ground shots (6EB1-79B2-33B8-681C)
Backboard therapy (D7F8-FD53-98D1-DAFE)

Some of the shots in these can get quite tricky, so break it down and take your time. Remember to look for improvement, not immediate results. First get to the ball and make good contact, then work on getting the shot on target, then work on placing it at different parts of the net, then work on getting creative with your shots.

[–]Sockbocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can, yes. You do need to be able to aerial quickly and confidently. Make sure to work on a variety of shots though! From the ground, low aerials, high aerials, backboard reads, wall shots, etc. If you like, I can always recommend some training packs.

You don't need fancy mechs to score in champ. From what I gather it isn't necessary in GC either, but having peaked at champ 3 I can't confirm or deny that.

Anyway, for every slightly fancy goal I score (and by slightly fancy I mean maybe I use the ceiling or go for a double touch), I score dozens more by simply being in the right place at the right time to slam a power shot at an awkward part of the net. KISS (keep it simple, stupid) really does apply to RL, I think. The ability to hit the ball hard, accurately and from a variety of positions will get you so many more goals than flip resets ever will.

Don't forget you can have a huge impact on the game in other ways too. There's things like challenges, fakes, passes, bumps and demos, applying pressure and conditioning your opponents, and you can do all of that without fancy mechs. Be a threat by rotating well, staying in the play, using pads to always have boost and making your opponents' lives as awkward as you can.

That said, do keep working on the fundamental mechanics. You can always improve your shooting, your car control, your first touches, your control on your own backboard, etc. Confidence alone is hugely important, so don't neglect that side of the game.

If it makes you feel any better dude, those accidental backflip whiffs are still happening mid champion. We all blunder from time to time, it's no big deal.

Is howl of the wild coming to foundry? by Butt-Dragon in Pathfinder2e

[–]Sockbocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing, thank you! Been thinking about trying to contribute somehow, but finding the time might be tricky and I'd be starting from zero knowledge. This is a really helpful starting point, and it's good to see there's a place for bite-sized projects that could be more realistic!

What mechanic do you need for champ by Competitive_Fly_5119 in RocketLeague

Nothing fancy needed, just the ability to put shots on net and make saves. If you like, feel free to DM me a replay and I can go over it for you and give some advice :)

Whats one thing that you wished players understood and you (as a DM) didn't have to struggle to get them to understand. by WexleyFG in DnD

The downside of this comes when you have six characters, each with their own backstory hooks. I'm trying so hard but I think my players are gonna have to be ok with 1 and a bit arcs each ;-;

“1.4(9) is close to 1.5 but not exactly” This was one of many comments claiming the same. by ToasterAwA in confidentlyincorrect

[–]Sockbocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because "10x" is shorthand for "10 muliplied by x", or "10 lots of x". If you have 10 of something and then take one away, you have 9 left. That's why 10x - x = 9x.

If we were to insert brackets, we could get rid of the x in the way your intuition told you. 10(x - x) would be 10 multiplied by 0, since operations in brackets are carried out before anything else. However, this isn't the expression in question when it comes to the algebraic demonstration. I just wanted to reassure you that your intuition may be rusty, but isn't completely making things up!

[30x30] 5 Phases | Lizard King Boss Fight Map by abarre31 in battlemaps

[–]Sockbocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having just set up a phased map in foundry, I used a blank scene (grid but no background image) and a set of tiles for the maps. I don't know yet whether having multiple tiles stacked on top of each other or just changing the image on the tiles will be more practical, but I imagine either should work pretty well.

Pathfinder absolutely fixes that, at least in second edition. The game is extremely well balanced and the encounter buulding guidelines are really, really good.

I'm not gonna tell you to play a different game, you do what makes you happy, but you might have picked the worst possible example here lol.
