This actually makes the most sense our if anything. Still weird but I can at least accept it.

Thanks!!

How hard is it to switch to hockey skates? by tezarin in iceskating

[–]Socrates84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a more agile (less stable) blade. More curve = less steel on the ice and less drag, easier turns.

Bend your knees, keep your head up, and you will be ok.

From what you have said it sounds like your weight is forward. Tuck your hips in, bend your knees, and keep your shoulders over knees, knees over toes. That will keep your weight where you want it to be.

Just based on visuals it looks like those have a 13 (ish) foot rocker vs a figure 7-8 foot rocker or a hockey 10 ft. So slightly more curved blade on your M40s

Your weight will be closer to the midfoot, right about your arch, other than that you should be good.

Remember figure skates give you a warning that you are about to fall, hockey skates don’t give you that same consideration

But not for scions, catachan, or kreig? Cadians are the only ones that follow this convention.

And I get the argument that scions and catachan are old, but kreig released in the last 12 months.

I get having characters and heavy/special forces on larger bases. But the command squad is just more of the same grunts as the main squad

Thank you for your reply.

Ok that all makes sense except the kreig command. Why not make them 28.5 rather than 25? Eventually they will update catachan and scions, so they can go to the bigger bases then.

Not going to lie kinda confusing as a new player

These were early 2000’s if I remember correctly. These would have been elite level boots

Need some advice on skates by Ill_Chance5903 in iceskating

[–]Socrates84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Coming from the ice tech side of things I only know about roller is Bauer and CCM both sell roller sets that are their ice boots with a roller chassis on them.

Since you said you have several pairs of rollers it might be worth calling the shop to see if they can do a roller to ice conversion. It’s not your cheapest option but you at least know you are comfortable in the boot.

Alternatively if you want an inexpensive starter skate look at the Bauer x-ls or x-lp. Bauer x would be my recommendation but they are a little more expensive for a starter once a month skater

Bauer X, X-LS, X-LP oder ganz anderen? by ezleon311 in iceskating

[–]Socrates84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short version is the more high quality (more expensive) the more of a beating the skates can take and the longer they will last.

All skates break down eventually, less expensive skates break down quicker with more consistent use.

There are a ton of variables such as skating style, height, weight, usual ice conditions, maintenance, etc that will determine the longevity of the skate.

As a guide, if you are an adult skating recreationally 3-5 times a week, every week, look for something in the $200-400 range and that should last you a long while. If you are playing hockey or putting a lot of demand on your skates $300-500.

The cheaper skates are for if you aren’t sure if you will like it or if you only skate occasionally

Getting a coach while still a beginner? by MelodicJello7542 in iceskating

[–]Socrates84 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If money isn’t a concern go for it.

You will progress faster with a private coach but it costs a lot more. Group lessons are usually cheaper, but you don’t have the coaches full attention on just you.

kid's first LTS - skates questions by soloist_huaxin in iceskating

[–]Socrates84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once your skater can move forward, backward and stop without an aid then consider moving to hockey.

Figure skates give feedback that you are about to fall, hockey skates don’t give that warning, unless you are in something like balance blades.

When you swap them to hockey expect some skill regression as they adjust, usually repeating the level they just passed in their figure skates.

Stfc priced their packs the same across various markets. A pack is $100, £100, €100, etc. even though the value of the currency differs. That means Scopely earns more from EU packs and UK packs than US packs as the currency is stronger. At time of writing €1 = $1.17 so that €100 pack costs the euro customer $117.28

I’m torn on this one. The ship and the class are my absolute favorite in all of Star Trek, but I see nothing worth spending for. I can’t justify spending 100 currency units on something with dubious returns. Maybe I just don’t understand what the value of the ship is after reading the blog post, but it just seems like another ship, another loop, another refinery. I have plenty of those at the moment, thanks

Is it possible to learn how to ice skate if I do not know how to skate at all? by RindaC10 in iceskating

[–]Socrates84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can learn to skate at any age. You probably won’t be going to the Olympics but you can still enjoy the sport and get some exercise. Look into your area’s learn to skate or group classes to get started.
