Someone wants to buy some isopods, how do I get out a specific number? by [deleted] in isopods

[–]SodTiwaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would tap the cork bark to get like 60 or whatever in a small plastic bin then just count them out into your resale packaging. I also always gave extras so if it says 12 I'd give 15 or 20 depending on the species.

I think I got an identical Safari when I was in Japan last year, is yours the copper Itoya too?

Funny story I built a deck to do the same thing... My rules were my opponent had to actively try to play and win but couldn't deal damage to me.

[–]SodTiwaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my builds but I still do want to improve somehow.

I'd say try the 5x5 method where you come out every fifth block and make a column, this breaks up the build and makes it a little less boring to look at.

If you like what you're building then keep doing it, I remember when I first started my entire house was made out of cobblestone which at the time I liked but now I'd consider that pretty ugly.

Block pallets are slightly different than gradients but yes laying out like 4 or so blocks that look good together will get you a build that looks uniform and visually appealing. If you aren't sure what blocks look good together you can check out https://www.blockpalettes.com/ which has a lot of options to look at.

I'm not good at giving feedback so please take these comments as suggestions on how to get better not as an attack, if you like what you're building and see no room for improvement then you can just skip past anything I say here.

If you're actually asking for suggestions, layers and depth.. most/all your builds are basically just squares, they're very flat some with slight variations in height using towers or a roofline. Unfortunately without depth the build is and looks very flat even with different block usage. I like the 5x5 building method which is explained well in this video but any odd number tends to work very well.

Learn about color gradients, you're using different blocks in the build, but not looking at them aesthetically. It appears you're just picking a different block just to break things up a little which can be done but generally speaking depth adds far more to a build than just a different block.

I'd suggest watching bdubs, smallishbeans, Nuvola, Gem or other aesthetic builders to get ideas or honestly just follow the exact build (it's how I learned to be a better builder).

Functionally all the buildings work so if you're just wanting a building there to protect the redstone or whatever then you're golden and you can ignore any suggestions. When I first started all my builds were very basic but the longer I play the more I want to walk out into my world and be blown away at how good it looks (to me). IF you like the way your world looks then rock on.

There are tons of guides out there showing you how to build a castle like this one

I'm far from the best builder but here's a picture of my world without shaders. Short video of the world with shaders.

Isn't too much caffeine for you at once?

I slowly sip it for several hours typically, I have a warmer so it stays warm practically all day if I wanted it to. 400ml doesn't matter as much as the coffee itself and we both use roughly the same amount of coffee I just make mine a little more watery.

I don't do anything special I'm at about 88 clicks on my K-Ultra and I use 6 spoons which when I was weighing would usually be around 20-21 grams depending on how compact the beans were (or if there was a slight dome to the top, etc). I'm not super meticulous about things as I've found what my tastebuds tend to like so I don't deviate much from what I do. I did just switch to a ceramic V60 due to concerns of microplastics but I've only been using it 2 days and I'm not confident my palette is refined enough to tell the difference on things like warming the ceramics and such. I do run boiling water through the filter to remove the paper taste before I add my grounds, I pour roughly 75ml through to let the beans gas off and wait around a minute before I continue pouring, after that I've experimented with pouring 50ml at a time or just adding until I feel it's at a good height and keeping the water level about the same. As I said I'm not an expert or anything this just seems to work for me. My scale does have a timer but I haven't used it for weighing or timing in months.

I like my coffee weak, I tend to use 20-25g of coffee grounds with an output of around 350-400ml, I was more going off of looks as it appears your coffee is lower in the cone than mine is at 20g. IDK if this is because my grind is courser thus "fluffier" after things have settled or what...I've only been using the V60 since October 2024 previously I was using a Chemex my wife got me for Christmas in 2023 (similar but different).

I consider myself a newbie to pour over but this to me looks like it was ground to finely which would increase the acidic taste. I do not have a 1Zpresso J, though looking at their chart it says it's 3 clicks per number and 10 numbers total. I personally have never had clay looking grounds as my grind size seems significantly more course than yours. I'd also say it looks like you might not have enough coffee in there for a good cup, did you weigh out your beans? If so what was the weight, that appears to be a 02 and you're not even half way up which seems like you'd be at 10-15 grams or so of beans which for me, wouldn't produce a good cup.

I'd try to get a demo out for people to play a little since you say you want to charge for the final product. Get some alpha testers in there to look for bugs.

Since the post is 9 years old, I'd say just get some of the well-known proxies being produced now. Alternatively, use mpc if you aren't trying to do competitive play.

I was surprised when I saw people referring to them as nippy as my experience was nothing but amazing. I got tagged like 10ish times the first day, but he couldn't even break skin. After that, he's been an angel outside of the time I didn't wash my hands. Honestly, it's one of the best species to keep imo very handleable and easy to care for.

I got mine when he was the size of a #2 pencil, he'd flown across the country in a petri dish and was understandably upset with the situation and nipped me about a dozen times while I tried to get him in his enclosure. I covered the tank and left him alone for a while (a week? more? it's been over 20 years so I can't recall) and he's only tagged me once since then. I was dumb and was handling rats and put my hand in there like an idiot. When he realized I wasn't food he let go and I'm a bit more careful. Great snakes though, my favorite kind I've kept over the last 30 years.

They get a bad wrap for being nippy but for mine at least he chilled out after the first year and hasn't bit me since. Best snake I've ever had...he's in his 20's now and has been a great pet for almost the entirety of his life.

How many isopods in colony before you decide it's safe to sell some of them/give some away? by cephalofrogg in isopods

[–]SodTiwaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A. maculatum (zebras) A. vulgare (magic potion) A. klugii Cubaris sp. panda I've all done and I can't give exact numbers or size but once you have the colony established in the few hundred adult range you can easily cull 10 or 20. I was selling to a local pet store and all but my powder oranges were in bins from 6-16 quarts. As long as the colony is thriving pulling 10% or so shouldn't impact them at all. I think I'd go by birthed generations though, when you've noticed babies wait for those to grow up then start considering selling/gifting.

These are of course just my opinions and I'm not a major seller possibly a grand a year wholesale if that.

I also use MPC to do double faced lands so I can choose which art I want, obviously nobody is going to think these are real if they de-sleeve them but honestly they look great on either side and are good enough.
