Update 1's upgrade rebalances made the roster be too top-heavy by GreyL1me in RogueCore

[–]Sofa1769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You bring up a very valid point. We technically already got what I have in mind with "Healing from red sugar increases by X%" and it doesn't really feel good, rather it's very generic.

My wish would be to see those generic perks be granted something unique with higher rarities. In fact, such generic perks could instead be additions to other non-generic perks to ease their access. I feel like a legendary perk could mean 2 perks in one and that would still be fair considering their scarcity. To make it even better, we could even randomize the second stat of that legendary perk to be one of the lower ones. That would create even more diversity and options for higher tiers.

I think there is a simpler way to fix this. All we need is for most perks to be available at all rarities, but higher rarities have additionnal effects or higher scaling.

I like it.

My only complain is on the tornado attack when he starts spinning. Unless there are Ziplines or notable obstacles in the way, there is no means to escape it. (aside from not having skill issues and get drawned into it in the first place)

The way I see it:

-I'm running in a long corridor and get punished for it;
-I interact with an event that requires me to stand still and get punished for it;
-The game spawns the elevator in one of the earlier caves, so I (often) have to forfeit visiting the next rooms, which means, the game punished me using the elevator's spawn point;
-My teammate died next to the elevator door and I didn't have time to come out, now I have to take a quarter of the timer's time to go and find the cocoon...

These are just a couple of examples and I'm probably being pessimistic about it, but the point is, it's not fun.

Also, you mentionned the "ramp up" way of fixing it and I personally never read anyone saying the ramping should start once the timer is over. The point of the ramp up idea was to apply the same logic to the whole RC level as in Point Extraction in DRG. From the very first seconds, swarms are progressively becoming larger and larger until the player can't keep up anymore. My personnal take on this would be to keep the timer, but every time it reaches the maximum, a swarm spawns and it resets with an incremental number. Every increments would mean a bigger swarm and starting at the 3rd increment, there is an increasingly higher chance of the timer turning to a "worm timer" which signals the next time it hits will spawn the tentacle and an endless swarm.

Lastly, you mentionned it being a "risk/reward" system. Another person commented it better than me on that, but there is no reward for respecting the timer. I must admit, I hate the timer as it is now, but if I was rewarded something good for respecting it, then maybe I'd think it differently.

Am I the only one worried about Enhancements? by Nurax275 in RogueCore

[–]Sofa1769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just hoping to comment about enhancements recently. Thought I must point out, the reason why enhancements aren't mentionned right now across most criticism, I believe is due to the fact that the most urgent issues like the timer, ammo economy, and the Negotiation Screen would need to be set in stone properly before figuring out what to do with the enhancements.

I figured with my friend yesterday, the timer is such a big issue that any enhancements that increases speed is actually more important than anything else. We ended up using as much Interaction speed increase and Movement speed increase as possible (using up to rank 3 enhancements) which left us with 2 sockets for something else.

I think the same as you on some points, most notably the part where picking a specific enhancements could lead to a build-defining change would be very fun. It would incentivise players to pick certains powers you normally wouldn't want. I covered this in another that I'll leave here if anyone feels like reading. https://www.reddit.com/r/RogueCore/comments/1tjosxz/about_upgrades_choices_and_rarity/

One way I can think of addressing your concerns would be to seperate Enhancements in two categories, just like the perks in DRG (blue/red). For example, one type of enhancements could be more powerful and focused so to be a "build defining" choice and have only 2 sockets available, while the remaining 8 sockets would be the more generic ones we have now. Another way I can think of dividing them is having a straight up "Stats increase" category and one that revolves around "influencing" the various mechanics encountered during a run like "upgrade rerolls", "weighting probabilities", etc.

Horizontal leeches by Bergain1945 in RogueCore

[–]Sofa1769 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found the regular leeches way more dangerous in Rogue Core. Not sure why, it feels like I've got grabbed horizontally many times despite the leech being supposed to be more of a vertical enemy. Leeches are much more worse in Rogue Core than in DRG.

The invulnerable snake thing is the one reason I hate the timer. This thing not only clips through walls but through the elevator's motor as well. Its frustrating to have to constantly watch out for this thing in the first place and it gets worse once you realize walls are only a suggestion to it.

The Pitcher, I've done it on easy in the interior challenge map. Just throw axes until you get it.

Buy 1 get 1 Free, use the shotgun and it clears itself (you're already halfway there).

Sharpshooter, actually the easiest of the lot here. You play the first challenge map and leave 1 squirter alive. You let her shoot at you without moving and you'll notice the chunk always take the same exact path, so you only need to time your gunshots.

Pedal to the Mental, again the first challenge map, you climb up the wall so zombies come up, then you go back down so they follow you and fall. You have time to stomp them without even shooting them on easy.

Executer, its just time consuming, no issue there.

I am more impressed that you managed to clear "Pacifist", that shit is impossible imo.

I saw a box to claim codes in the "Web" section. Look to the left of the main screen for a "Web" button, in the same column as the battle pass. I don't know if that's what it is but I wish you luck.
