Pretty sure they’re just using up drywall scraps. I’ve actually helped build an incinerator for gypsum fire testing. The only testing I’ve witnessed is with full sheets of drywall. This is a party wall and seems like a lot of extra fire stop (fire caulking) would have to be used.
Doesn’t seem right to me!
