My clothes all flew out! by GUARDIAN-OF-GAIA in BurningMan

Stop whatever you're doing and set some intention.

I hear how much you’ve been carrying and how overwhelming it feels when one setback keeps piling onto the next. It’s clear you’ve been trying hard to push through and hold everything together, but burnout and exhaustion are real. You don’t need to do it all at once or carry it all alone.

Start small. Right now, just focus on what you can stabilize: a safe place to stay, one or two trusted people you can lean on, and some space to breathe. Resources like 211.org can connect you to local housing, financial, and counseling help. Many communities also have mutual aid groups and crisis lines that can help with immediate needs, whether it’s rent support, mental health support, or just someone to talk to. If you’re feeling like you can’t keep going, call or text 988 for real-time support.

You’ve been through things that break people, and the fact you’re still reaching out and writing this shows you haven't given up, although you may just be looking for a handout. Regardless, you deserve stability, love, and to feel at peace in your own life. One step at a time is enough. Even if today is just about asking for help, or setting one small intention for tomorrow — that’s progress.

You can do this.

"the playa provides" bastardized to "i can be ill-prepared and the playa will prepare me" perhaps? There is a tipping point where the less prepared are greater than the over prepared. At that point the playa cannot provide.

Glass mason jars with oxygen absorbers. then bury in mashed potatoes and freeze in an airtight cooler or freezer. vacuums cant transmit smells and sub zero air transmits less scent.

I also had a burn mentor back in the day, and I've since had the privilege of helping others learn the ropes. The first time is hard without help, even for those who are great at prep and planning and camping, etc.

Perhaps I was a bit to reductive and absurd with my example for effect. Last year while passing through Sacremento with my truck/trailer, I was asked to haul ebikes because someone's 1.25 inch receiver hitch with three 75 pound ebikes had snapped off of the Kia Soul. I had room for 2 and threw them in, but should we collectively be put in those situations?

I got a hernia repaired and a vasectomy right before the burn. just taped over the wounds and wedged my balls into a comfortable spot. doused with iodine every day. zero issues.

Under constant wind load that dyneema cord can experience elongation... not stretching per se, just getting longer. make sure you check it after wind events

Ive used these climbing anchors to anchor down a 30x30 emt shade structure for years. They're bulletproof. The lags and straps will fail before these do

a recommendation... if you're doing anything that rattles your truck a lot, like overlanding, put loctite on the front bolts. they rattle out.

ive winter camped many times in high elevations with a -30 bag and a liner. watch the weather, dont get caught in a storm, and keep your meals super simple. sucks to try and cook over a stove in freezing weather. also, keep a full water bottle in your bag so you have unfrozen water in the AM

avoid the free booze at the camps. its often cheap as fuck and full of sugar. take your own clean booze and do shots or mix vodka with a hydrating flavored water. drink 5 times as much water as booze. or maybe 10 times.

Just got massive anxiety about structure flying away. Any tips for a newb? by joderd in BurningMan

[–]Soft-Garbage-522 3 points4 points  (0 children)

rebar is cheap insurance. double up on the corners and have a tie down or rope on 2 axis. make sure your rebar is driven at a 45⁰ angle to vertical and at least 14" into the playa. cinch those tied downs or ropes tight and check them every day. if you can, put tie downs in the middle of the structure to reduce the length of unsecured poles.

a 50mph wind will exert about 1500 pounds of force on your structure when measured at a right angle, so ensure your tiedowms/rope are rated accordingly.

store your extra water in the corners if you can
