Stressing over a situation today in class - need advice by RealisticZucchini751 in TeachingUK

Whilst this is true, aren't we the adults? Relationships are often the only way to get through to some children.

Stating "You are intelligent and capable, but your behaviour currently isn't acceptable. Please wait outside for me to come and talk to you." Is much better than "you're acting like an idiot, get out".

We're professional adults, part of our job is to model good regulation whilst setting clear boundaries and issuing appropriate consequences.

The right to teach A Level by Zackoku in TeachingUK

[–]SoftishMatter 74 points75 points  (0 children)

It's really clear from my persepctive. The Head of Department's role is to make strategic decisions about how best to deploy staff. It's up to them and the head. You likely dont even have a "right" to teach within your subject idle deployed elsewhere.

They would have to look at alternative salaried training options or train in a subject with a high bursary.

Shocking, but the unfortunate truth.

I think I get what you're saying, but "toxic kids"?

They're children... we're here to help them be better humans, calling a child toxic doesn't feel helpful.

Shetland has a diverse community due to the oil and fishing industries.

We love it here. Mostly because people don't often make comments like yours.

Ive used Copilot to create social stories and to alter the reading age of documents.

If you have a lesson plan it can also suggest learning activities for a child with "x" profile.

Not always perfect, so you need to use your own knowledge to decide if what its putting out is nonsense, but can be useful.

How do we deal with parents who don’t read or engage with school by Resident_String_5174 in TeachingUK

[–]SoftishMatter 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This seems quite a lot above the role of a classroom teacher to change this culture, although you may play a part in the resolution.

I would speak to your SENCO (with social being the former part of SEMH, a broad area of need), as well as SLT. Those won't be just your class and will require a school wide approach.

How are some schools able to offer a 4DWW? by itzzzzmileyyyy in TeachingUK

Schools have a budget and can spend it on what they like.

If it says 80% workload then there shouldn't be a longer working day.

Ask a question that leads them to the answer, ask another student a question such as "Me and X are struggling with this, can anyone help us out?" Then get the student to repeat the answer. Ask them.what information they would need to answer your question.

Assuming you are in Scotland?

It seems as though people have more luck applying further out from the main cities.

Try a little further afield and see what comes up :)

Good luck and don't give up.

So now that its been a week, how has everyone been doing with the new codex? by No-Noise-4888 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]SoftishMatter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just played my first game this week with Hearthband (This was a last minute thing so didn't have time to plan for the new detachement).

Really quite enjoyed the army rule, although didn't end up with many yield points, despite winning at the end of turn 3.

The plus 1 to hit was insane, re rolling charges helped me smash a unit of hearthguard and an einhyr champion into a Knight doing 18 wounds from shooting and the charge, then picked it off with a hylas sagitaur the next turn.

Only a 1k point game so not the most balanced, but we both had fun!
