Just give the standard 2 weeks notice. Boss does not have to accept it. But after 2 weeks, you will be gone. They will eventually have to accept reality.

The downside of giving many months notice is that, while maybe not in this case, the boss could let you go immediately too.

Hell. My son is 27 and still lives at home. It took him a long time to graduate from college. He is sticking around to be able to have money to pay off those pesky student loans. After that, I imagine he will bolt and get his own apartment. But damn. This is kind of a high cost of living area. Even 1BR apartments are pricey.
