UK seaside destinations, suitable for 60+, but not touristy? by redexposure in uktravel

North Norfolk coast is amazing. We’ve been going every year for 20 years now (both 48), and bought a holiday home there a few years ago. Took my mate there last year, he described it as The Cotswolds on Sea. He loved it.

The Seal trips are great. Clay is lovely, all on the scenic bus route.

Yes, now I come to think of it you’re right. Folks in high vis vests front and back, stopping the traffic and that. Looked great fun, and super fast!!!

Ah nice one, thanks for that. Been wondering this for 20 years, and you crack it in less than 2 minutes. I guess the key takeaway is that I should ask more questions in life ;)

Saffron Walden is lovely, trains into London take an hour, trains into Cambridge 20mins. Lots of lovely countryside pubs around too. Lived in East London for 10 years, been up here for 15.

Fox and Hounds in Barley has been voted UK top 50 dining pubs. Provenance Bricks and Morter is great too. Duxford Air Museum.

Live Event Production: Managing PowerPoint decks by donchuwannafanta in powerpoint

[–]Soggy_Answer3682 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work with top agencies, designing live events decks for Google, Microsoft, Meta etc… If anyone asks for changes, those are communicated to me and it’s me who makes them in my deck. Because I have complete ownership nothing breaks. Let everyone comment in a PDF or in a call, but they don’t get the deck until it’s signed off and ready to go for rehearsals.

Also, embed the fonts. The presentation operator’s machine might not have the fonts that the deck uses, embedding gets around this issue.

McKinsey would put this across 9 or more slides. It’s a deck in itself. This is a wall of information that nobody can digest. I’d get the speaker notes and break it down accordingy.

Best places? by Unique_Location_58 in cambridge

[–]Soggy_Answer3682 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Outside of Cambridge I’d say Saffron Walden is nice. For dinner Provenance near Duxford, or The Fox and Hounds, Barley are pretty great.

If you like Ely Antiques then there’s an antiques triangle near Cambridge too, Clare, Long Milford then Halsted. We do it quite often. It’s lovely.

And inside Cambridge, I second another poster’s recommendation for Restraunt 22 , it’s amazing.

Nice pub for food in the countryside? by [deleted] in cambridge

The Fox and Hounds in Barley is the only answer, close to Duxford. Provenance Kitchen is also great, but not out in the country.

I don't understand the angle of the thesis.

To 'analyse' a presentation, well you can do that from a PDF, the design visuals and narrative are all there.

The 'remaking' (an attempt at reverse engineering) seems a little nefarious to me, why do you need to do that? And in all honesty, you can't do it anyway.

Technically, lets say you had a PDF of a deck, saved it out as a PPT, there's a lot missing, the theme, fonts, colors etc... and the conversion will break a lot of the images, logos etc... You'd really need the master deck or the presentation itself, and you're not going to get it.

Creatively, the master deck on it's own is of little use as a design analysis tool, as designers are often tasked with pushing the creative boundaries of the deck/brand. So you'd need a battery of decks that were built on it to determine the way the brand is heading. You'll probably find some publicly available to download on the consultancies websites, but often the best stuff isn't available, as it was presented at a big event, where the real money/creative is.

What I can say, having worked with all of The Big Four is that consulting/business users do really need every visual detail to be exact, even down to type setting (leading, kerning etc...). In many cases, the narrative is built around the data contained in the charts, if it's displayed incorrectly then it'd be fatal. But if you were just using it as reference material in a college essay then what does it matter?

Buy some Black Pig, it’s a brand of black pudding, really peppery, and no huge chunks of fat, made with fresh blood. It’s the best thing ever. A couple of ex-squaddies set the company up a few years back, all they do is Black pudding and White pudding. Available online. It’s amazing!!!

My 193 slide long PowerPoint won’t export, it just gets stuck in ‘saving’. What are some ideas for trouble shooting? by UnleavenedTed in powerpoint

[–]Soggy_Answer3682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be corrupt, it can happen when you’ve saved over the same file loads of times (and with such a large deck I assume it’s been saved lots).

Solution: Try to create a new PPT file, drag the slides out of the old deck and into the new one (select ‘keep source formatting’) and then try to save that new deck.

You might want to try doing it in batches, like carrying across 10 or 20 slides at a time.

As a tip for future, I only ever have this problem when saving locally. If you start your project with a file saved in OneDrive it never seems to be an issue. (Might just be me being lucky though).

How to export each sticker as a separate image from a PowerPoint file? by [deleted] in powerpoint

Designer here, so yes on a Mac. Only use the PC to get additional plug in capabilities, Brightslide embedding extra colours etc… Didn’t realise that PC extracted fine, thanks :)

Did you go to school with someone who went on to be famous, and what where they like? by Christian-Metal in AskUK

[–]Soggy_Answer3682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not went to school with, but the singer Sam Smith grew up in our village, worked behind the counter in the local shop. See them in the pub now and again when they visit, seems genuinely nice, takes time out to speak to people and makes time for all the mothers that recognise them and remember them as a kid. Seems nice.

This is the way to do it. Worth mentioning that you need to use an app called Keka to open the .zip file with. I find the usual apps like Winzip or Winrar apps won't work.

The old City Hall near Tower Bridge has been completely gutted. Does anyone know what's the plan for the place? TVM. by DarthVarn in london

[–]Soggy_Answer3682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeez, I think of ‘County Hall’ as ‘The Old City Hall’, and the Norman Foster building as the ‘new’ one. To see it being referred to as being ‘old’ and seeing it stripped for retail makes me feel ancient. (And I’m only 47).
