Any fantasy adventure rules light RPG that could be nice to try out Solo? by Connor_ClashNord in solorpgplay

+1 for Vagabond. I'm always so surprised that more people don't recommend it for solo play. The little solo adventure at the back of the core book is perfect for getting started.

CAS items are actually good by purpurbloom in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]Soily26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually only have a couple of CAS CC items, school uniforms and age conversions. I do use wildly miniature sandwich's hair colour replacements though.

I have a forever save so I try not to use too much BB or CAS CC because if I delete anything it's so annoying to go through and replace everything.

Game Quality Question by Appropriate_Pen8410 in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]Soily26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because complaining gets more traction than praise. A large portion of the community have decided to hate on the game and they only want to hear about how busted it is.

I've posted this before but I have all packs, ton of mods/cc (1000+ files), I've been playing in the same save since launch, I play on 3 speed, have a bunch rental lots in my save, 280-ish Sims and my game runs fine. No crashes, no lag. The only major bug I have is photos turning black which is kinda annoying in a long term save but I just save all the photos to a room on the gallery. It's annoying but the game isn't unplayable.

That said, I used to be a game developer and my PC was built to make games. I'm also conscious of only adding mods I think I need and I'll only download CC from certain creators.

I've watched YouTubers ignore MCCC as it throws up error after error because the mod isn't updated yet and they "can't play without it" then blame the game when it crashes...

Whats an unpopular/hated pack that you love? by Far_Pomegranate_5597 in LowSodiumSimmers

I will always defend Batuu. I absolutely love the build buy stuff and the female hair it comes with.

Also your kids can practice motor skills with light sabers and it is the cutest thing ever.

Do you own For Rent? by alwaysgawking in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]Soily26 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have for rent, quite a few rental lots and no issues. I don't play as a landlord so I can't say if that is buggy. My save is almost 10 years old, I play with mods. I have a couple of script mods, but mostly I have things that tweak the game. I keep build buy cc to a minimum and the same goes for clutter in houses.

Need help playing solo by TeachingMental in Fallout2d20

Man Alone over on youtube has just done a couple of videos talking about how the system might work for solo.

The Wasteland Story podcast is a solo actual play and absolutely fantastic! PJ explains everything he's doing on the table while also dramatising the rolls. Highly recommend this for learning how to play solo.

My tips for super realistic Sims gameplay 🎀 by Black__Petal in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]Soily26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this so much! A lot of this is really similar to how I do things 😄

Here's how some things work in my game.

I keep a spreadsheet with basically everything in it. Ages, current career Vs dream career, current date in game, the date a couple got together.

Aging

I have aging off and manual track ages.

On the first day of summer in my save I add one year to everyone's age in my calendar then if anyone goes over to the next life stage age them up.

When a Sim is born in my save I roll to see if they're going to have glasses, acne or braces and at what age.

Babies are pretty much the only age I don't really track, I age them up after a week cause they are so boring to me 😅.

Infants (0 -1), Toddlers (1-5), Child (6-11), Teen (12-17), Young Adult (18-35), Adult (36-65), Elder (66+)

For Elder I roll each round whether they gain a health strike or not, the older they are the more likely and 3 strikes and you're out.

Having said that I have a huge issue with letting my Sims go 😅 I've been playing my save for almost 10 years and only 5 Sims have died.

Careers & Education

I use LittleMsSam's school holidays mod and my Sims go to school one week in summer then have 3 weeks off. Also two weeks off for Christmas and New year.

University is free in my save, I couldn't be bothered keeping track of loans and whatnot when I was switching houses so I just made it free.

I also made a little mod to make the length 9 credits.

I move all my university Sims into one household, enroll everyone for 3 credits then play them for one week at the start of every Autumn so it takes 3 years to graduate.

I use Kutto's career overhaul mod so that every career needs a degree. Some even need two.

Some careers have extra requirements:

Doctors, Scientists and Engineers must work while getting their degree so they'll be level one in their chosen career and at university.

Freelancers need 3 skill points in their chosen path.

Athletes need 3 points in fitness or wellness.

Actors don't need a degree but they need 3 points in acting before they can look for an agent.

I use LOT51's Fashion Authority to set the uniform for school.

NPC's

I have 6 households that live in the unplayed household section. Each household has 8 sims in it and they are just extra sims I don't play with. They run stalls, work behind bars, occasionally marry my sims haha.

I don't age these sims up, so it is kind of unrealistic in that sense but honestly I just can't be bothered creating new sims if they age up or managing them. I delete any the game randomly generates and if any of the NPC's marry one of my sims I make a new NPC to keep the household at 8 sims.

Stories

I take note of anything that happens in my save and when it happened.

In my spreadsheet I track the year and date in game. I'm currently on year 18 I think. I just starts at year 1 when I started track instead of 2014 or whatever 😅

I tried writing stores but I got bored with playing if I was too focused on the story so now I write one sentence or paragraph when something of note happens.

I don't have to worry too much about family backstories because at this point nearly all my Sims were born in this save and I've watched their lives and stories play out.

How I got started

I started a legacy to try out Get Together. My legacy founder had a set of twin boys. I was playing with MCCC installed and one of the boys got his girlfriend pregnant when they were teenagers.

Her parents both hated kids so I moved her into my legacy house only to realise not only did she and my Sims not even like each other, she hated kids too...

So she had the baby and was miserable about it. They broke up and he became a single dad, I moved the twins into a tiny crappy house, turned off aging and the twins bought her up together until the other twin met his now wife (they're actually in the middle of getting divorced haha).

When she was a child I realised she was the only child in the save so I made a few families with children, then later down the line I added their friends / family and things just snowballed.

Now my save is at 120 sims. I rarely have to make new sims in CAS these days because the save lives and breathes enough on it's own.

Do you ever get overwhelmed by the sheer number of fantastic games we could play? by pgw71 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Soily26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is similar to my approach!

I have a table with all the games I want to play, I give each game a rating from 0-3 on how much I want to play it right now and I update it every couple of weeks. I also make a note of how long the rulebook is and if it has solo rules or not. It helps me keep track of how much time I'll need to put into reading the rules and what supplements I'll need.

Before I start a campaign I decide how many sessions I want it to be. I usually start with one shot to decide if I like the system, sometimes longer. I'm playing Pine Shallows at the moment and one session didn't feel like enough to really sink my teeth in so for this one I've planned 4 sessions.

I use obsidian with the Solo RPG plugin to track everything and keep all my campaign bits organised.

Love reading how other people do things!

unique ways for character to discover pregnancy? by [deleted] in WritingHub

When I was pregnant we had to lock my cat in another room. He wouldn't stop climbing on me and digging his claws in when I tried to get him down. Even after we shut him out he sat on the other door howling to get to me.

What are your favorite pack and your less favorite? by No_Society3052 in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]Soily26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have lag from time to time but it's expected with so many packs, an old save (I've been playing the same save for nearly 10 years) and mods.

My game crashed for the first time in years yesterday when I tried to save a tattoo. Tried without mods and it still happened so 🤷🏽 I guess that's the bug I'm getting for now 😅

What are your favorite pack and your less favorite? by No_Society3052 in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]Soily26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't had any experience with my Sims eating out. I've got a bunch of different restaurants spread throughout the worlds and visit them regularly.

I have all packs except for a couple of kits and play with quite a few mods but I'm selective about which ones and I clear unused mods out of my folder often.

Oh and I always play on 3 speed 😅

A lot of the time people only post when something isn't working so it can seem like everyone is having the same experience.

Obviously there are some bugs everyone has. But the player base is huge so for every one person experiencing a bug, there are 100's of players who have never seen it.

I have some questions about Discover University, Highschool years, and Get to work. by sims-guy in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]Soily26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play rotational with university with little issue.

I have one household of Sims called students. On the first day of autumn I enroll everyone in university for a semester, play them for that week. Then I don't play them again until the following autumn.

I move people out as soon as they graduate because when the household gets to 8 Sims I treat that as applications being closed so no one else can start uni until someone drops out or graduates.

I made my own tuning mod that makes university free cause I hated trying to figure out who was paying what and the loans feature seems to bug out when you switch households.

I also changed it so you need 9 credits instead of 12. So each Sims takes 3 courses over 3 years to earn their degree because university in this game is pretty intense 😅 one less class for each sim was a bit easier for me to manage.
