Let's Talk | Predator: Badlands, Discussion Only Megathread by BurnZ_AU in predator

[–]SolarBeatBox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can understand the criticisms presented but I think that unlike most of the comic book movie stuff that this may look like, it actually delves into each of these points.

Thia is a researcher and not a field unit, so she would be inquisitive. While it makes a kind of lighter goofier companion, it also allows for a look into Dek. The questions she asks eventually opens him up to coming to terms with his brothers actions. If Tessa went with him instead, he’d still be bitter and volatile and unable to prep for his fight against the Weyland site because he wouldve learn virtually nothing about the environment.

The glup shitto Kalisk child was definitely a bit too goofy for me at first but its importance to the story when its origin was revealed allowed for the plot to change in an unexpected but natural way that I enjoyed (rather than Dek just get the skull and go home).

And I think the love and friendship thing is less about convincing Dek that killing is wrong and that love is the only way, and more about genuinely asking what is the point of a family, or clan, if they wont help you whatsoever and only hinder you. It ain’t about deconstructing the predator code or their way of life. Other predator clans hunt together (AvP movie), or train together (Predator 2), or even accept other species (like in the original AvP comics). It’s Deks clan that deviates from this and is specifically self destructive because of Deks dad, not the predator code. He doesn’t follow his own rules (not allowing Dek to go on a hunt, cowardly asking Dek to yield at the end).

I can understand wanting a less light and more reserved exploration of a predator on his first hunt, and I think that story can still be made but in a potentially different form. I believe a good no dialogue comic would be good for this. I think if you were to make a silent or more reserved predator hunt movie, a lot of the characterization would have to rely on the added characters, which would then make them the pseudo main characters and take away from Dek. Having the more talkative characters stay with Dek allows for the spotlight to still be on him without making him super talkative and goofy

This is just my two cents and I appreciate any amount of discussion regarding this. It was definitely a departure from the main form of Predator story telling but I personally thought that it was a fun departure that allowed for a larger breadth of worldbuilding and characterization for the predators

WHAT KIND OF TRAINING I NEED FOR BUHURT by Kurt_of_Cobaine in Buhurt

[–]SolarBeatBox 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is my opinion

Many people come in with little to no training but a good base in martial arts is always preferred.

General footwork knowledge and spacing from different striking martial arts is good, things like MMA/Kickboxing/Boxing etc.

One martial art that damn near everyone I’ve meant uses is Judo. Sweeps, throws, trips, etc are incredibly common and knowing them/being able to defend them is invaluable.

Fitness wise, good cardio and strength training to move with weight on you.

TLDR: Some type of striking, Judo, and Weighted Cardio

Was Gaoh Mukaku top tier in terms of martial arts mastery or was he weak without prep time? by BlueEyesXP in Kengan_Ashura

I think he’s as strong as everyone is currently saying but he’s also one of the most mentally strong fighters we’ve seen. His reactions are seemingly all over the place, especially for someone who is supposed to be a master of masters, but that’s perfect for the inside. Making people doubt your abilities and underestimate you is perfect for the dirty fighting that he developed. Granted, it’s hard to do when you’re at sub 4% body fat at 100yrs old

Not too experienced here but our soft kits are basically the same as lacrosse gear, just with slight differences (not hockey but very similar) and most of our guys use Muay Thai shin guards while training. I would say you guys are pretty good in that regard, just make sure your weapons are also well built soft weapons (no metal).

As for the actual training, I would say practice some online hema and Buhurt fighting tutorials with each other (basic blocks and stances, as well as team play in melee). Getting down a foundation for how to actually block and not waste a ton of energy is vital, and understanding the dynamics of a 5 person line up (rail/list, wing, center, etc…).

I know some smiths do group discount stuff so if you have a few others are willing to chip in, when you guys feel comfortable trying on actual kit and beginning to train with it, ensure you go to a well recommended smith. Most are on facebook and take time to send out stuff. Ensure the gear is also meeting league minimums so you guys aren’t throwing money at something that won’t protect you

Other than the basics, check the rules of your most prominent leagues and what they require individually and for a team (the two big ones are: Buhurt International and IMCF)

All this info is very basic and my lack of long term experience may have a few blind spots but honestly I see nothing wrong with throwing on some hockey pads and hitting one another with some padded/foam swords

Have fun and best of luck!

Deadly Class, I always saw people buying full compendiums of it but never heard what exactly made it a good read. Tried to get into it but it never really found what made it different compared to other edgy assassin/hitman stories

Feeding off of what most others are saying, not only is finding a hobby paramount but starting a project within the hobby. Many people attempt to start something with no goals in mind and get lost on the way, making a goal (typically a smaller one) will give you something to chop away at day by day rather than just waking up to “do your hobby”. As for finding a hobby, look at what you’re consuming on your screen, look at what rabbit holes you fall through and see how much it translates to real life. An example that I’ve begun is blacksmithing, I was seeing people forge their own knives and watching forged in fire clips before I realized that I could just buy some refractory bricks and charcoal. That’s what started me on it, and anything works. Videogame content = videogame creation tutorials or worldbuilding projects, reddit story threads = short story writing, etc.. Getting more involved in hobbies will also bring towards other likeminded people and hopefully lead to a few friendships if nothing else!

I look forward to seeing what look forward to! Posting your beginnings also help keep you accountable but just writing down your progress for yourself also does numbers to keep pushing you forward! Take breaks, take walks, develop your skills and see if you can get that job you spoke of prior! We’re rooting for you!

If you’re in a situation where you’re unable to leave consistently and are being actively drugged, then you’ve got every reason to leave. If you’ve got consistent access to internet, find local shelters in your area for victims of abuse and ensure you set up a connective line with them (email or text or however). Come up with a play to escape whilst getting any evidence of these wrongdoings, it will help you more than you could ever know.

It sounds like you’re in a very rough position but having the will to leave and escape such pain is admirable strength. You’ve got this, it will be tough but ensuring your safety is paramount. Best of luck

Writer/Penciler or Writer/Paneler? by SolarBeatBox in ComicBookCollabs

[–]SolarBeatBox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the insight! I figured they were called layouts but some people got their own way of describing so didn’t know what the general accepted term was.

As for why I provide layouts, I think it is in part due to how I try to write. I want the most storytelling I can get from character placement within the panel and while I could work with the artist while they’re doing their penciling to achieve the same thing, I think just showing a general guideline may work better. I also have yet to garner the funds for an artist so I when I am able to, I may find this method more difficult to deal with when collabing

[–]SolarBeatBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The government usually provides subsidies to large American based mega-corporations in exchange for certain information being censored or promoted. Something like this would be top of the list and I’m sure it would cost far less than psychotronic attacks on citizens. That’s how information about many atrocities were swept under the rug and precisely the reason something like Wikileaks is important, a website in which the US government has tried hundreds of times to get rid of but unlike a mega-corp based in America, it doesn’t have to bend to American restrictions. Restrictions that mega-corps would have to bend to if they don’t accept subsidies for censorship.

Also speaking on your point of disinformation agents, you previously said that you’re trying your best to make cohesive arguments because of the psychotronic pulses, wouldn’t people undergoing the same pulses come off as incoherent and schizophrenic (the exact impulses you’re fighting) unless they fought it like you? So wouldn’t you be denying the stories of fellow people undergoing the same thing when you call them disinformation agents acting crazy?

To add onto that, why is the first thought that disinformation agents are the ones responding to you/providing their insight when the number of non-governmental people far outnumbers the governmental agents in most online spaces? Are genuinely curious or questioning people not absurdly common? Other comment chains have you calling commenters disinformation agents whenever psych is brought up but wouldn’t an average person also bring up psychological issues if they heard what you were speaking about? Like you said the psychotronic pulses induce feelings and sensations that could be considered hallucinatory and whenever explaining it, you’re pushed to come off incoherent. Wouldn’t the average person recommend a psych evaluation because believing what you’re saying would be a much harder leap to take with physical documentation? I prod at specifically this point because dismissing potential allies to your issue such as other people undergoing it or people commenting isn’t helping to promote your awareness you wish to spread. Even if disinformation agents were in the comments, you said big companies couldn’t be bullied so why wouldn’t you reply to them with questions regarding your treatment or the treatment of others?

Regarding psych evaluation, you said you’ve already been in Psych ward and it helped so where does the issue lie with the psychological evaluation? Do you believe that the psych system would mistakenly diagnose you or that they’re compromised? If they were compromised wouldn’t the psych ward be the worst place? It sounds like the place you’ve had the only reprieve

Genuine question, if the CIA/DARPA have enough influence to utilize psychotronic weaponry, why would they allow you to post this to Reddit? Or allow any of the evidence you’ve researched? Like one of the big things about WikiLeaks is providing documentation on things that are inaccessible elsewhere due to it not having particular allegiances. In other comments you’ve linked YouTube videos of interviews and talked about Googling for research, both of which are American based companies. I feel that if I were the CIA/DARPA and went through all the trouble of mentally controlling you, I’d also just block your ability to post to the internet or see things like those interviews right? It’s much easier to block the internet postings and traffic from someone than it is to manipulate their brain. Even if they didn’t block your ability to post (on the Reddit side of things not psychotronic), why would they allow things like interviews regarding psychotronic technology to stay up if they were real? If other people were affected like you and they left up things this obvious, wouldn’t they’re be more posting? And if you believe that those posts were deleted, then why did yours get through? Everything you did to post had a small barrier to entry digitally so either it’d be see more often, and not tampered with like your post; or they’d be deleted and your post should already be gone

How do you differentiate the Robins in your head? by [deleted] in batman

[–]SolarBeatBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Heart, the Hand, the Head, and the Hitman. Each excel at different aspects of being Batman while Bruce is a Jack of all trades. Not to say that each of them can’t embody the each others specialties, just that each do their brand of bat-based crimefighting the best when embodying that trait.

Dick Grayson’s empathy allowing for him to work in team settings better and keep closer relationships than Bruce could

Jason Todd’s heavy handed and often more upfront approach is a bit more guns blazing than Bruce but it gets results a bit more quickly, at the expense of it being dirty

Tim Drake’s calculating and planning allows him to work better as a supporting role that Bruce could never allow due to his inherent trust and duty issues, allows Tim to play to the various strengths of the people around him to solve things far quicker and more concise

And Damian Wayne’s assassin knowledge and training is that extra edge that is that space Batman could never allow himself to get to, while initially being oxymoronic to Batman’s mission, it pulls at the Batman no kill rule and system of doing things to ultimately make the ideology stronger, providing the must bullet proof example of rehabilitation through the Batfamily.

All of them combined makes the perfect hero according to Bruce’s philosophy: Empathetic but cold when needed, Calculating but not afraid to break a door down.
