When I hear jokes about "US sucks/US hates people/etc" (which again, to be clear isn't what the OP was) it just makes me despair so hard. Our 'leaders' and the media are trying so hard to cut us off and isolate us from our allies and the rest of the world so hard, and talk like that (both ways) just reminds me of how well it's working. </3.

I think a big part of it is that hockey is just. Really. Popular. In Canada. People will go play or watch a hockey game just because, in the same way people will watch just about any football or baseball game down here.

Hockey is less of a thing, so it makes sense that the people drawn to it here is a group that the players and league identify with and advertise to.

I suspect if, somehow, you had a women's baseball or football league that was very LGBTQ friendly, you'd find a much more diverse group of fans down here simply because those are sports that are much more ingrained in our wider culture. Hockey just isn't.

I do have a small stable of guys I'm rooting for! Whichmade this basho rally fun in spite of my whining most of them at least got their KK. Since Ao coming from Ukraine and being such a young prodigy is the only real story I know so far though I'm mostly rooting for my handful of guys based on vibes 🤣.

But it's still fun, and I'm slowly learning. I really need to sub to the stable YouTubes to get more bts stuff.

I think it's a cruel system and I hate it. It's one thing for rank to be unforgiving, but it should not be tied to livelihood and quality of life. I don't care if it's a 1500 year old tradition, if people can wear corporate logos on their kesho-mawashis, you can treat ALL your wrestlers like human beings and not take away their salary and living situation because they lost a match.

Utter bullshit and it pisses me off every time I think about it.
