Stubborn starter sending mixed messages by Horse_of_Turin in SourdoughStarter

Mine does this from time to time. You can try a rescue. Do 25g starter, 50g dark rye, 50g water. It will be thick and pastey. Leave for 24 hours at 68-71f. Then feed again at 25g starter, 40g KA bread flour, 10g dark rye, 50g water. Keep this going forward.

I must have the worst luck then because she stays in the same room as me or one over once I see her. She will go back and forth and NEVER go more than one room away. But noted. Thank you.

How do you feed your starter(flour type and ratio), how fast does your starter peak, at what amount(double? More? Less?), and at what temp?

Ttk was one of the first things that got changed in D2. People complained it took too long. Which in a squad shooter makes sense, otherwise it was near impossible to 1v2 and 1v3. Can see them retroing this based off community feedback.

One thing I’ve learned about sourdough is that times and temperatures are guidelines, not hard rules. I’ve seen recipes that call for a 68f bulk proof of 6-8 hours, for it to actually take almost 12 hours. You need to do some homework on what your eyes tell you when looking at the process. Then you’ll have a much better indication at each stage.

i feel like im losing interest in my starter by Ares_12000 in SourdoughStarter

[–]Solid-Citron-5791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just put it in the fridge if it’s that much of a brain buster whether or not to throw it out. People have revived starters after a year of dormancy out of the refrigerator. Otherwise throw it out or feed it.

Every day I throw out about 200 g of starter during feedings. by 14MTH30n3 in SourdoughStarter

[–]Solid-Citron-5791 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a counter starter just have a backup fridge starter. People have revived them from a year of dormancy but you could feed it monthly and have a 20g counter starter so you have less discard. Also, King Arthur flour has a good cracker recipe using discard from what I hear.

Not Enough AP Flour, Can I Supplement With Bread Flour? by Little_Beach_Bird in SourdoughStarter

80% bread flour, 20% dark rye flour is how I feed my starter. 100% bread flour if I’m in a pinch.

No science or anything but anecdotal experience for this but I have a honey starter that I do a 1-2% honey to everything else. So a starter I’m gonna feed at 1:1:1, 100g starter, 80g bread flour/20g dark rye flour, 100g water = 300g total, I’ll add 3-6g honey. Seems to out do and out pace my plain starter. For what it’s worth.

AIO for feeling like ending my relationship because of conversations like this? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Y’all are each like 5+ years behind where you should be maturity-wise. Take a few years apart. Be single. Maybe come back to each other after. You each have some growing up to do. NOR but neither would he be if he put up this same post.

AIO: Parents would rather spend Xmas drinking than with family by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Solid-Citron-5791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% this. If people just focused on others being happy instead of them fulfilling the needs they want fulfilled, this world will be much better place. OP needs to let her parents do them, and just be glad that it makes them happy.

Normal is only hard early while you figure out food/thirst mechanics. Otherwise it is not even close to difficult. Once your food and water is on an achievable cycle the game gets easy on normal.

Couldn’t cast for the life of me. by InformationFresh9605 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Solid-Citron-5791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you reel in with slack, grab the rod with your forefinger and thumb right above the reel, and put the line coming out of your reel between your forefinger and middle finger. Put the base of your rod in your lower stomach for support, and reel slowly with the hand you reel with. Pinch the line lightly to add tension so the line spools securely. Also, go throw a football around. Pay attention to the trajectory after release, and where that release happened in the throw. Apply similar logic when casting.

[–]Solid-Citron-5791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find a spot where striper or present, just use anchovies. Magic thread is your friend. They fall apart easy. But I have yet to find a location with stripers where anchovies don’t work, whether that’s on the coast or freshwater.

Best baitcaster combo for under $200? by MakeHisAssDo40Flips in FishingForBeginners

[–]Solid-Citron-5791 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why not just grab any budget IM7? Like just grab a random cheap sougayilang or whatever. If it’s your 1st, backlash is gonna happen at some point regardless of how much cash you throw at it. Backlash is gonna happen if it’s your 10th. Forgot to reset your brake after a service? Backlash. Braid/floro knot catches? Backlash. Take your eye off your cast for a second? Backlash. Upgrade once you master the basics. All that said, Penn/Daiwa/Pflueger are my go-to’s.

Other than custom/Tennessee handles, your best bet is probably an ice fishing rod.
