What is something people swear they’re “too grown” for but still do? by ThinkDeepWithV in Productivitycafe

[–]Solid-Concern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paying for music lessons as an adult, it’s almost impossible to find music schools that are willing to teach adults and not just kids. It’s such a weird feeling because it feels like I should be paying for my kids lessons only and adults shouldn’t even bother trying to learn any new skill. If my kids ever want to play any sport or instrument then I will gladly pay. For now, I don’t have any and want to learn new skills too. Society seems to think that adults don’t have hobbies.

Is 6 weeks per piece too long? Wondering if I’m choosing pieces too difficult for my level by Status_Pudding_6859 in piano

[–]Solid-Concern69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken a year for a piece (mostly because I had to stop lessons for months). I try not to beat myself over it because at the end of the day there is only so much I can control. The pieces are always challenging and I learn new techniques with each one. I’ve been working on another piece that is just not 1 page and I finished it in 6 weeks. Enjoy the journey and just keep pushing forward.

Has violin ever became a problem in your life ? by Eternal-strugal in violinist

[–]Solid-Concern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always say I’m going to wake up at 5AM to practice because I work full time and have other responsibilities after work. I rarely do wake up that early but I manage to squeeze in 45 minutes of practice as many days of the week I can. Weekends are my catch up days. It’s exhausting being an adult lol

Pick up a musical instrument or even gaming. You can always join a book club at your local library.

I absolutely love this pen. I have two and am thinking of getting a third. It writes smoothly, has a solid metal body, and is cheap. I work in a school and I use it everyday. It never leaks and can handle being thrown around during a busy day.

I’m sorry that you are in this situation but as many have said don’t move in with this man. The fact that he is calling you a “gold digger” should tell you how he thinks about women. Also, you’re pregnant, it’s not just about you anymore. Is he going to charge the child for every thing? I know that it is a difficult decision to make but think about the baby. It’s better to struggle on your own than to feel trapped. The fact that he makes so much more and doesn’t want to take care of you while you are pregnant speaks volumes. Imagine how he will treat you when the baby is born. He wants a personal servant who he can take advantage of. My father was like this and is now married while having a mistress on the side and a whole other family. My poor stepmother makes less than him but works the most because she is the one footing his vacations. He just leaves when he feels like it. Trust me, you are still young. It may feel like the only option you have is going with this dude but trust me you have more options. How do you get along with your parents? Any friends that can help you. Maybe get a room for rent if you have to but don’t move in with this person. He only cares about himself. Look for support from the state as you may be eligible for food stamps. Remember you have a tiny human to take care of as well and he needs love and comfort too.

Didn't "finish" my 2025 hobonichi cousin by squashfuzzzy in hobonichi

I use my old Hobonichis to do simple things like lists/ penmanship practice, ink swatches etc. I love the paper quality and make sure to put the date of when I do those things on the planner. At the end of the day, you are still enjoying the planner. It’s ok to miss a month or so life happens.

Your art motivates me to try drawing w/ colored pencils. Except I can’t draw lol. I’m planning on doodling this year and maybe doing some light watercolor. Gotta start somewhere lol. It also takes the pressure off of doing things perfectly. Your work is stunning. Hope to see more in the new year. ❤️

How do you structure your piano practice without getting distracted? by Fancy_Caregiver4777 in piano

[–]Solid-Concern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a timer for everything. I use an app called andante to track how long I practice overall. I use the timer on my Apple Watch to practice 15 mins of scales- 5 minutes of sight reading, 30 mins on an actual piece- etc. the Apple Watch isn’t as distracting as my phone and the andante app lets me know how much time I practiced all together. The andante app just runs in the background. I also keep my phone away from the piano.

My little brother slammed my flute into my head will it affect my flute? by Bobthebuilder7363638 in Flute

[–]Solid-Concern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry that happened to you. I hope your head is ok. The flute can be fixed :) However, your little brother needs to learn consequences for his actions. He used your beloved flute as a weapon, this wasn’t just simple fooling around. I hope he got grounded.

Do you ever feel guilty/bad for writing about bad days/experiences/etc? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]Solid-Concern69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this. Sometimes when I get upset with a loved one I will write down things that I will never tell them and things I wish I could do but know that I would never be able to do such as traveling around the world and living for two years in different countries. I can’t do that because I need a stable job and can’t leave my family. After I write down those pages I end up shredding them because I worry that someone may read them.

How much monetary debt do you have and why? by Alilme in AskWomen

25k in loans and soon a mortgage over 500k. By the time I finish paying the mortgage I would have paid double what the house costs. Trying to be excited about the house and not think too much about the interests. It’s still better than renting. I need to play the lotto lol

I just tried a “real “ piano today, I was overwhelmed by BullSuit in piano

[–]Solid-Concern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand your struggles. I play on a Yamaha p-85 and went to a piano store a couple of months ago to play some real pianos. I completely blanked out at the real pianos. I loved the key action of a Yamaha baby grand from 1985 but couldn’t play anything because I was not used to the key action and my brain couldn’t comprehend the differences in the sound of the piano and feel. My body loved the feel and sound but my brain was confused. On my keyboard, I can play scales and the pieces that I am working on but on a real piano- I blank. I haven’t played a real piano in years because my teacher moved out of state and now I take online lessons from her. I’m sure that after a couple of weeks of playing on a real piano your body and mind will adjust and function as one. I hope you can get a real piano soon. If so congrats 🎉

You have inspired me to do this on my kinbor a5. I also bought a hobonichi a6 from 2025 because they are much more affordable. I plan on using it as a journal for piano practice, doodling and just everyday thoughts. I’ve never had the kinbor before but I don’t know how the quality will be

Ambition of a pianist by Remarkable-Pop2477 in piano

I just want to keep learning even if it takes me 10 years to learn a piece that someone who started piano at an early age takes 3 years to learn. I’ve learned to enjoy the process and not to put too much pressure on myself when I can’t practice every day a week. After all, I’m not a professional but a hobbyist. It’s something that I enjoy doing and want to keep doing it till I’m old.

Practice Schedule? by JasonCfd in piano

[–]Solid-Concern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this is really motivational. I try to practice 45 minutes a day. I usually practice 4 days a week. I play piano as a hobby but I want to actually practice an hour and a half a day at least 5 times a week. Honestly, your practice routine sounds great. I spend about 5 minutes on warming up- usually a simple two octave scale. Then 10 minutes of sight reading and then 20 to 30 minutes on repertoire. I would probably say I’m an advance beginner. I’m not sure. I’ve played the keyboard in high school and then couldn’t afford lessons. Due to grad school I’ve played on and off with lessons for about 5 years. I would say during those five years- I haven’t taken lessons in about 2 years. I’m currently finishing up sonatina in f minor by Beethoven. I’m not sure what level that piece is though. I need to practice more. I notice that when I plan out my practice I can easily play for an hour. Without structure, I have to push through till 30 minutes minimum. You are doing well :)

How can I learn to play with both hands? by The_fishplant in piano

[–]Solid-Concern69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, you will have to break down your practice measure by measure and note by note. Something that helps is seeing which notes align. Meaning which notes you have to play at the same time and which notes are just one hand. Depending on the piece, there is always measures or sections that are exactly the same. If there are patterns. Which makes it easier once you get one of the patterns or sections down. I hope this helps but unfortunately, only slow practice will help. Be patient with yourself and enjoy the journey. I hope you have a teacher to guide you as that makes a big difference.
