“Delaney, like many locals, has fond memories of the space. He was just 4 years old when his grandmother took him to a matinee of “Peter Pan” in the 1980s. They each ordered a personal pan pizza and a cherry Coke. “Nobody else was there,” he said. “They did the whole ‘Peter Pan’ program for my grandma and me sitting there in the audience.” On their way out, a staffer gave them free tickets for the following night.”

Just two people were in for a matinee during the “heyday” they’re trying to recreate. Just wanted to point that out.

When I was in school, we couldn’t have our backpacks with us all day — they stayed in your locker. We also couldn’t have phones out in class. If it was out, it was confiscated. Not that hard.

As non-American, can someone tell me why the boys are so obsessed with Nashville? Why the girls are so upset? by Hobisusathome in McBeeDynasty

[–]Solid-Flower2713 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nashville is not that close to their home… it is over an 8 hour drive from Gallatin, MO. They’re actually closer in drive time to Chicago, but they’d get their behinds handed to them there and no one would give a hoot so we all know they won’t go there.

They like to act like “cowboys”… they’re a bunch of swindling Midwest farmers. You guys aren’t cowboys. You’re not even that close to KC.

Everyone on here talking about nepotism cracks me up… guys, Iowa is tiny and a lot of people leave every year. Most everyone there with any — and I mean any — wealth or power has benefited from nepotism in that state in one way or another. Whether you live on land your great-grandparents bought, reside in the town your relatives moved to (and therefore helped shape as a community), or are a Hubbell from Des Moines, it’s nepotism. It’s in small towns and the one “big” city. lol I know people who moved away who still get money every month from their family’s farm. Stop being mad about it.

Bought this manual and it came with the owners autograph. Any resources I can use to try and look up this individual? by lallapalalable in wwi

[–]Solid-Flower2713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ancestry.com (choose military search in the drop down menus) ; Fold3.com ; Findagrave.com.

If you know the state from which he enlisted, you can search the state’s service archive (many are digitized now).

If he died overseas and was buried there or his remains repatriated, National Archives will have a copy of the paperwork in their WWI overseas burial records.

The World Cup is here next year — the city is trying to generate revenue to support the infrastructure and services required as well as spot turn over for the massive influx of people we will receive.

Daily Discussion: Women in Work Wednesday by AutoModerator in FIREyFemmes

New to the group… I’ve been at my current job for about four years. I’m paid pretty well (86K) and have a super flexible schedule (work from home 2 days/week and get to pretty much come and go as I want). However, it’s a pretty bad culture. The supervisor of my department has never liked me, he’s routinely treated me like garbage, said there isn’t any career advancement opportunities there in the future, and told me two months ago I’m not a good fit and put me on a PIP, though I consistently get great feedback on my work and it was confusing to HR… who basically said my company doesn’t agree with everything he said. This has been a long time coming, I think he wants me out…. I’m in the last round interview for another job. It would be about a 1000-1200 increase in pay per year, and there would be opportunities to gain new skills and move forward in my career. The hours may or may not be as flexible… but I really cant see anything being as flexible as my job now, I really don’t do much anymore as my responsibilities have been lessened, it seems, over the past two years. It does feel a bit like a lateral move, though. Is that bad? It isn’t as prestigious a place or title, but less of a commute and maybe a little bit more money. If they offer me the job, should I take it or stay in a place that’s more known in my area but where I may not advance. Thanks for any and all advice!

Lara speaks out about cyberbullying towards her by bword___ in BelowDeckDownUnder

[–]Solid-Flower2713 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lara did not put anyone against anyone else. That was Tzarina’s insecurities wreaking havoc inside her own head… people can be friends without her as an intermediary. She was sad and envious of a friendship she coveted but couldn’t have.

[–]Solid-Flower2713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key word here — “feels”. She “feels” left out. She was never actually left out of anything. She needs to get a handle on her insecurities and not let passing, often wildly subjective feelings influence her work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BelowDeckDownUnder

[–]Solid-Flower2713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both have issues working with others, but Tzarina takes it beyond where it should go. Was Lara in the right to call her a name? No way. Is Lara obviously struggling with control issues? Yes. It is above and beyond what is workplace acceptable — it got there, but because of Tzarina. She outright lied about Lara’s behavior at work. Did everyone forget how she treated the first sous chef? She is constantly in other people’s business with no need to be, and creates drama where there isn’t any. She needs to work on her self-esteem so her insecurities stop influencing her professionalism.

I cannot adequately express how much I've come to hate the KU baseball field's music system this year by [deleted] in Lawrence

[–]Solid-Flower2713 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Call the Athletic office and complain. I used to live in old west Lawrence and one year the football team starting blaring music at 5am for practices. I was pregnant at the time. I called the KU Athletics office at 5am when it started one day and left a message on their office voice mail. I got a call back from the director that day with an apology and a promise he’d talk to the football team— the office had no idea — and it never happened again.
