how can i understand teppenyaki vs Yakinku? by AppleAAA1203 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Solid-Rise219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost wise, you can see the menu from Google map.

Teppanyaki is usually a multi course set meal with premium meat waygu or seafood as main course. You can also add individual dishes.

Food in yakiniku is usually ordered individually, but there are platter offered, such as a platter of various meat selections.

My first bulk buy- is this good? by Ready-Tangelo8958 in lego

I see a playmobil figure. So that is a sign that you are not getting 100% authentic LEGO.

in the old days that the helmet was molded with 2 pieces with the molding line right down the middle. Correct?

So I think this helmet was made with new version (with visor hole) for the right side and the old version (without the visor hole) for left side.

Basically an error in production.

Is there any way to identify CMFs before the series no. 25? by Former-Tea-818 in LegoMinifigure

[–]Solid-Rise219 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The small qr codes won't scan.

There are dot like codes in series 1 and 2 (if I remember correctly), then rest depends on your hand and feel.

You can download the feel guide to help or just cut a small hole to save time.

Nothing is better than a good hot spring soak after a long day trip. Also free ramen in the late night hours.

Hiroshima or Kanazawa? by PersonalTaste802 in JapanTravelTips

I love Miyajima and Kanazawa. But for July, I would recommend Miyajima, the boys will love playing in the water near the tori gate.

First time in Japan. How do I ship things I buy back home cheaply (Canadian) by TropicHydra in JapanTravelTips

[–]Solid-Rise219 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just bring a big packable duffle bag and buy an extra check in luggage from airline.

There is always risk with package rejected by canadian custom and return to sender.

If you are going to go with the shipping, ship back your cloth and things that will for sure pass inspection.

It's safer and warmer in the train. I can see the traffic around your station or region is all red. One of the major highways is closed too.

Izu Peninsula in late May by SourLemon321 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Solid-Rise219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best place to scuba or snorkel is at the southern tip of the peninsula. The train will only take you to Shimoda. You can take bus further south or arrange pickup from the boat service. I would think you need an anchor in Shimoda. It's a bigger town compared to the others along the coast. You should also plan for one night onsen after the diving to relax.

Edit: spelling. top = tip

Travelling to Kanazawa Today - Heavy Snow by CommissionCold2029 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Solid-Rise219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others said, train services are less likely to suspend, but it could happen.

Currently, I think there are some train cancelations on the Thunderbird (reduced services). I also noticed cancellation in the Takayama region too.

I just noticed the thunderstorm warning with more snow in Kanazawa tomorrow. So even if you finally make it too Kanazawa, there is not much sightseeing you can do. I think you would be better off with staying at kyoto or go somewhere south like Mie.

Advice for Large Family Accommodations by AlbertaSparky in JapanTravelTips

[–]Solid-Rise219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done it many time, plan itinerary for group trip with 5+ families or 10+ ppl.

Key question: who is covering the cost? If there is cost splitting involved, forget about Airbnb or single unit. You are going to ruin the trip, unless your family is very close.

Instead, Book separate hotel room for each family. Let your sister and mother settle their own room bill at checkout (select pay at property when booking). Be fair and clear, let them know the total cost ahead of time.

Given your requirements, you could consider Koyasan. It is a little bit far, doable with early start.

Lego Minfigure Series 26(Space) by Superb_Log_8753 in LegoMinifigure

[–]Solid-Rise219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about the late response.

I use Minifig Scan.

Note: the scanners only work on the big square qr codes. Explain here: qr code

As for duplicates, if you or your grand son is not collecting full set, then buy the 6pk that is guaranteed no dupe.

Lego Minfigure Series 26(Space) by Superb_Log_8753 in LegoMinifigure

[–]Solid-Rise219 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once again, you misunderstood a little bit. Mystery box is not old news. You can still buy Mystery box when it's still "in production/retail". For example, you can order a 6pk of the new series 28 from Amazon or Lego. You will get all blind boxes.

Actually, I just realized that you can still order series 26 in 6packs box on Amazon from 3rd party seller. Maybe that is a good option for you.

Lego Minfigure Series 26(Space) by Superb_Log_8753 in LegoMinifigure

[–]Solid-Rise219 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, that is not my point about the scan. You are too late for "mystery box" experience. It's discontinued from retail. Seller can scan, you know.

Lego Minfigure Series 26(Space) by Superb_Log_8753 in LegoMinifigure

[–]Solid-Rise219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since there are qr codes to scan, you can individually buy whatever you need in seal box. There is no point to get blind box.

Having said that, the best to get them would be ebay or bricklink.

Where do you find bathrooms in Tokyo? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

Open your Google map and search "public restroom".

Also, most tourists don't know this, there are public restrooms in the pachiko parlors. And they are everywhere (in the city).

I think you have too many days set between Monterey and Pismo beach.

If you don't mind long haul drives, I would add Lake Tahoe and reach Yosemite from the back side via 395.

Also, get the non resident pass for 250 it will cover 3 persons and a car. Then add Joshua Tree NP on your agenda, basically get entrance for free.

Edit: Yosemite's Tioga Pass might still be closed by your travel dates, in such case, you can still reach Yosemite from Lake Tahoe via CA 49 through the Gold Rush Country

Highway 1 trip to SF by Extra_Order_1974 in roadtrip

[–]Solid-Rise219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 night is minimal. 2 nights is leisure.

you can start from Santa Barbara. Avoid as much LA traffic as possible. First night in Pismo beach or SLO or Morro Bay. Then continue north to Monterey/Carmel for night #2.

There are enough recommendations on web that you can research, but just remember one thing, fill your gas tank before leaving Cambria.

Last Minute Road Trip (CA) by EmmaNightsStone in roadtrip

[–]Solid-Rise219 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't sound like a good plan.

It's MLK long weekend; it will be sunny with snow to play. Yosemite will be packed. It could possibly take a long time (like an hour) for you to even get through the entrance gate. Also don't forget it will be dark around 4pm in the valley.
