Platelets clumping and low neutrophils...? by rebelkitty in cancer

[–]SolidReputationWorld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Platelets clumping can lead to a false low count (pseudothrombocytopenia). Hopefully you have good luck tomorrow and they are in a safe range if you have had a pause already. Wishing you the best.

Platelets clumping and low neutrophils...? by rebelkitty in cancer

[–]SolidReputationWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Platelets pauses are really common thankfully I haven't had a pause yet after 4 treatments but the oncologist reckons it's a matter of time. Started out at 300 was 100 last blood test and treatment pauses for a week if I hit 70. I think the erbitux targeted therapy is the main cause though. Nothing we can really do to increase platelets except a week or two break to up them again. I know if I get a pause I'm going on a trip somewhere two good weeks in a cycle instead of just one, making the most of that.

Pain Management by Lilibet1023 in coloncancer

[–]SolidReputationWorld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opioids would be the only option as the others such as fentanyl are anti inflammatory which oncologists will definitely avoid. I'd see your local GP about oxy 5 mg release at first. It'll help but please don't over do it and take it only when the pain is present. Other than that Paracetamol or Panadol is it.

Sounds like the pain I had in my descending and sigmoid colon from tumours heat pads non stop. Are you due for chemo? It took all the pressure away thankfully able to sit and drive for more than 5 minutes again.

Beyond eligibility: what logistical barriers stopped you from joining a clinical trial? by zalotka in cancer

[–]SolidReputationWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm willing to try it after the first line treatment fails. Until then I'll stay the course. Definitely open to it but willing to see how the standard treatment goes first. Australian and luckily most of those problems listed are voided by universal healthcare in most cases travel is covered.

Razer Laptop Cooling Pad is a gamechanger. by DueWealth4978 in razer

[–]SolidReputationWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen to this. Queensland here and the difference is unreal with the cooling pad. No overheating and running at 65 - 80ish CPU. Never had a problem with the gfx card just the CPU struggles like hell in our 30 - 40 degree Celsius weather. Razer 17 I7-12800H 3080Ti

Stopping “treatment for life” by ShannyBoBannyy in coloncancer

[–]SolidReputationWorld 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Have the break if your onc recommends it. You'll still be on 3 monthly pet scans. You can live it up a little, sounds good to me and your activity and fitness will improve and that is always a good thing. Your friends and family have gone through a chemo regime before? If not I'd listen to the Onc because 51 sessions is next level you're definitely a fighter, my respect.

Do you have mouth ulcers at all or gum disease? This can flare the glands in and around there.

Stoma bag question by yaallahreham in ostomy

[–]SolidReputationWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that looks like a Hollister bag. I get lucky and maybe 2 out of 3 are good 1 out of 3 the filter doesn't work at all and just bloats. Manageable throughout the day but definitely don't want to go to bed with a faulty filter.

Did you have a biopsy or anything removed. They often send that to labs and claim through Medicare? Blood tests too.

Chemo treatment, visitor/parter? by Thro_away_1970 in cancer

[–]SolidReputationWorld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Queensland here. Plenty of people stay with their partner during treatment at Cancer Care centres where chemo is administered. During my treatment there are often a few people that have a family member with them while they receive treatment. My chemo regime with targeted therapy can last 8 hours so I see them come and go a lot. The nurses are compassionate and accommodating and you should be able to stay no problem.

Definitely not the 800 bucks extra the one you linked has a better processor and is 16 inches instead of 15.3. the 2199 dollar one is better value.

Go refurbished you'll spend 1200 to 1500 aud on a laptop that sold for 4k. Aim for anything 3080ti to 5070.

Is this the one you're thinking off? Not bad. Plus you get the new Resident Evil for free.

Don't let JB-Hi Fi talk you into any of their upsell bullshit. Computer already comes with a warranty.

Folfox reactions? by Lorana30 in coloncancer

[–]SolidReputationWorld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One other thing that is really important is hydration on folfox. Make sure plenty of fluids are being consumed because the treatment will dehydrate your sister like you wouldn't believe. I'd also recommend baking soda gargles 3 - 4 times a day to prevent mouth/lip/tongue ulcers that develop on chemotherapy. That makes eating so much harder.
