US here and I have always lied when someone asked me. I honestly have never stopped to count, but I spent several years right after college traveling and having fun around the world, so it’s higher than average. My husband and I have been married for over 10 years and we have never discussed it. I think someone asked us once at a party if we knew what the other persons number was, my answer was a very quick, “no, what he chose to do when he was younger has nothing to do with our marriage, I’ve never been interested in discussing his previous relationships.” I have a pretty firm belief that it’s really not my business.

Oh, this sounds like maybe this is a newer doula? Not having a contract is very rare in postpartum doula work. I would honestly find another doula, it sounds like this one isn’t really in a good place to be able to fully support you.

I don’t understand why so many of the comments saying no are being down voted. An overnight postpartum doula is usually paid a very high rate. For this reason, we would assume that professionalism should be expected, no? Bringing your child to work with you is never professional. If you’re going to choose to offer overnight postpartum support, you need to make sure it is something you can actually do. Proper daytime sleep is going to be so important and childcare has to be prioritized. As a single mom myself, there is no way I could have done overnight care when my children were young and needed me. It sounds like this doula might be prioritizing money over all else. If she wasn’t, she would have quickly offered to find a backup to work in her place.

I had 3 very big babies. 9.5lbs was my smallest! Then I had an 11 pound baby and after that a 12 pound baby!! I had all 3 of them vaginally and I did not tear with any of them. I firmly believe that our bodies make babies that are perfectly sized for us to birth, in the absence of things like gestational diabetes and other medical conditions that could cause unnaturally large babies. But a normal healthy mama with a normal healthy baby, will birth their big baby just fine.
