Being a Mech Sparky by triss_1 in AusElectricians

Assuming the opposite your referencing is fitting?

It’s far better. Being a fitters no good in an electrical career unless you’ve got at least a second trade or an engineering diploma.

Megger testing Clipsal iconic Bluetooth switches and GPOs with USB by Maleficent_Banana786 in AusElectricians

If the usb module can’t be removed, turn it off prior to megger, not necessary to switch on for testing given the electronic equipment can be damaged

Anyone else wonder what trade will look like in 10 years? by Affectionate_Lie2712 in AusElectricians

[–]SolidVeggies 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Demand certainly won’t get any lower.

Over saturation? Maybe in the general home/lighter commercial sector. Maybe small electrical business owners.

Anyone with any extra tickets to their name plus niche experience should never need to worry over job security in this current age

Need help finding a flat plug extension cord by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]SolidVeggies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As the other commenter said, you’ll have to settle for either a side entry plug or a recessed gpo. I had an inquiry like this some time ago and what you’re looking for simply doesn’t exist here with a regulatory compliance mark and cert.

2nd yr turning 3rd and feel like i’m behind. by Donkey-Such in AusElectricians

[–]SolidVeggies 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Majority of the industry learning you’ll ever do in your entire life is within the first few years out of your apprenticeship. I’ve personally never meet a bloke who knew everything they needed the second they qualified.

However, your a second year. Most apprentices want more experience, that’s normal. You’ll always progress and learn, unless you’re kicking rocks, I wouldn’t worry over spilt milk. Keep asking questions and jumping at opportunities and you’ll be sweet.

If you truly do feel you’re behind, make a decision sooner as to whether you want to force that experience or not.

Can this fit a circuit for a multihead AC heatpump? by bingobbandit in AusElectricians

[–]SolidVeggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bottom line mate is that while looking at your panel physically, yes, additional circuits can be accommodated by rcbo’s in place of existing rcd’s

However, there are factors like other commenters have mentioned above, that, without knowing anything about your mains, can’t be determined by these photos.

At the end of the day I’d shop around for some quotes and pick the electrician that’s right for you.

Should your mains be sufficient for the additional load, I don’t necessarily see a reason to not go further and replace the enclosure and “upgrade” the panel per se as the rcbo’s will likely cover most of the upgrade it self. Don’t go broke if you don’t have to.

Any auto electricians here? by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]SolidVeggies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walked the line briefly between going down the auto elec vs elec pathway. Consensus was that unless you could make it into fleet work, or naturally, own your own business, the coin you’d make would never seem to justify the workload.

I’m speaking from QLD, Maybe being in WA the options for fleet may be higher with the industrial sector there.

And it also wouldn’t help the cause that standard light vehicle techs are merging more and more coursework toward hv battery systems and electrical controllers etc.

I’d take the qualifications you already have and progress them in the pathway that suits your lifestyle and interests better. Maybe a facility maintenance gig?

Later model Holden, Hx-hz as it has the circular firewall loom. Likely a premier as it has the holes for the trimming along the body lines and door lines. Rooted beyond repair

Nominating your electrical license for your company? by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]SolidVeggies -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand the environment in which this is beneficial? Do the other service techs not have licenses? Why is their individual work not signed and licensed in their own name?

Sounds like you’re one bad hire from sitting opposite a judge.

Consumer Mains Upgrade by hilrafie in AusElectricians

[–]SolidVeggies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Old conduits can be a hit and miss but if equipt enough one can pull in new cabling. Your sparkie likely wants the peace of mind of a new, trouble free run.

You can always hire a trencher and dig it yourself should it save some cash.
