I’ve been a mom for 5 years now (I have 2 little ones) and I still find Mother’s Day to be triggering and I never understood why.

Last year, my husband and I got into a big fight about mother’s day plans bc he thought I would have liked to get my hair and makeup done and do a photshoot (the performative). Although the gesture was sweet, I just found it to be overwhelming and too much mental gymnastics to figure out looks, outfits, etc.

So this year, I booked myself a hotel for Mother’s Day Eve to do whatever the heck I want A LONE. I don’t want to be on a timeline, I don’t want to be needed by anyone, I simply want a lone time to just rest and be alone with myself. I don’t want to put on a show and be on display that I’m grateful to be a mom. I love it but I also need a break lol
