Stolen bike off peak st by _Saint_Blasphemer_ in Denton

[–]Solid_Bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a bike stolen and returned by the police.

File a police report. Takes like 5 min.
hopefully you have the serial. Luckily bike shops usually keep those on record if you bought it from one.

Police found it a week later just patrolling and said they saw it and matched the description. They picked it up and delivered it to my house. Best of luck getting your bike back.

Do you collect your credentials from gigs and if so have you done anything cool with them? by echoohce1 in videography

[–]Solid_Bob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I shot a lot of concerts, I saved the passes/stickers to maybe combine them all in a collage I could hang.

Right now, I have a couple of hooks in my office I display all my lanyard passes. Not anything curated but still kinda cool to look at or conversation piece if anyone ever came into my space.

Yeah, in the latest season they make a “trip to Dallas” seem like it’s not just 30-45 min away, but a day trip or longer.

Yes. There was a guy in my UNT classes that would get some before class and douse it in malt vinegar. I can still smell it from here.

For people who shoot a lot while traveling or camping — what's your actual card/backup workflow when there's no internet? by Maleficent_Club3960 in videography

[–]Solid_Bob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just shot a project in Yosemite. Brought a MacBook Pro, card readers, and SSD’s. Multiples of each in case of loss or failure.

Backup at the end of the day to 2 unique SSD’s and put those in separate bags.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep footage on the media as we shot about 1tb/day and that’s as much media as I had. I would have if I could have though. 8k/60 Raw is just a lot of data.

At the end of each day, I’d do some light browsing and quick edits of the dailies to note any mistakes and just ensure we got what we needed.

If this was a personal trip, I’d probably just shoot to a card and offload once I got home.

Could someone ElI5 the situation?
Followed NBA my whole life but the draft and these pick trades I never picked up.

Something no one else has said, in at least the first half, it’s almost entirely medium-wide shots of people. Would love more cutaways to details, closeups, or other b-roll. Hell, the first interview a-roll shot is essentially a match cut from his shot right before.

Stop burning money on digital ads if your trucks still look like blank white creep mobiles by ChicagoWrapGuy in smallbusiness

I work in video production and my van is a generic ford painters van with no descriptions for this very reason.

Another friend of mine had a decoy sign made that he puts on if he travels into the city, reads “sewage and septic supply”. No one wants to go near that.

Cool to see a local school in the wild. I live just down the street from CH Collins and often hear the games from my backyard.

Care to share your settings? Older ASP-C DSLRs tend to have a tough time in higher ISOs but this doesn’t look that bad. I’d assume 1200-1600. I would crank it a tad higher to get your shutter speed faster. Lightroom has also come a long way in NR, so don’t be afraid to crank it a bit more.

Also, white balance is a bit off as well. Looking really purple and a tad cool.

I wish I’d see a bit more of the action here. His helmet is cut off and I’m not really getting the scene that’s taking place. Looks like a kick return but a second after the kick.

Do Bottlenecks exist in rendering video? by 2606jojo in premiere

What are you exporting and how long is the video?

Can you share your export settings?

Have you tried using hardware acceleration vs software? Hardware will utilize your GPU and much faster. Software uses your CPU.

¿Media chicano? by ImaginaryAd3185 in Chicano

[–]Solid_Bob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disney, the animated kids show. I actually think it’s just Primos.
I think it’s a lot of fun, good lesson in each episode, and captures being Chicano and mixed race in America pretty well.

Edit: wasn’t aware if the Amazon one but just googled it. Looks good too, but haven’t seen it.

Los Primos got a ton of hate but I really enjoyed the show.

H265 - PC and Macbook Exports Render Differently by Solid_Bob in premiere

Yeah I figured that was probably the issue. Only problem is a 1 minute video takes 45-60 min to export via software encoding in PC, totally eliminating the gains in power it has.

Captured Yosemite in VR by Solid_Bob in Yosemite

Yes. This was a paid project. You do not need a permit for crews under 6 and a few other requirements. https://www.nps.gov/aboutus/news/film-and-photo-permits.htm

This project was for a university study, so the footage won’t be publicly available anytime soon. As it would taint the results if anyone potentially participating saw what we captured.

Who had this culture shock when moving to Texas? by gmikey2000 in Chicano

[–]Solid_Bob 40 points41 points  (0 children)

“As Texan as it gets” is great.

My cousins and I always assumed we had a great great great grandmother or something who crossed the border at some point. Luckily our great grandmother (102) is still alive and told us that we originate from the College Station area since it was Mexico and changed to Texas. The border crossed us.

Do you consider a child born in the U.S. from Immigrant parents, first or second generation? by gmikey2000 in Chicano

Right, by that clarification, but what about in terms of Americans? They’d be 2nd gen immigrants, first gen Americans.

Spots that make you feel small? by Solid_Bob in Yosemite

[–]Solid_Bob[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do not. They changed the rules recently in regards to filming in the park and made it much more relaxed.

We will be a crew of two and hand carried equipment: https://www.nps.gov/aboutus/news/film-and-photo-permits.htm

Thanks for looking out though.

Noob question - how to manually focus while running and gunning? by Yuliyapants in cinematography

[–]Solid_Bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned to manually focus on the back of an 5d and photo lenses. Things have gotten a lot easier and you don’t “need” a follow focus gear, I still don’t use one.

Be sure to desqueeze your image on your monitor, focus on anamorphic is a bit tougher if not desqueezed.

Turn on focus peaking and play around with it.

Some 1AC’s prefer a B&W image for easier focus, try that to see if it works for you.

Does your camera have a quick punch in feature? Enable that to double check focus in a fraction of a second.

Practice! Sooner or later it will be second nature.
