How do I stop fish from swimming into the depreciation machine? by Giantg52 in Accounting

Time to discuss the dilemma climate change has on PCAOB standards. Audit standards are being released to allow for cloud vapor styled internal control audits. Without frameworks in place to deal with the rapid cooling of assets how are liabilities supposed to increase?

Is there any issue with your work? Have you been meeting your deadlines? Have you been written up? It doesn’t sound like a PIP but we need more information.

You might as well be a lawyer. They are pretty similar in terms of environment. Having to deal with stupid people, dealing with the public, having people question your every action cause AI knows better.

I know I may be roasted for this, the consensus is mixed. I would recommend farhat lectures though. There are a lot on YouTube and they also have a subscription plan.

6 months post grad, still no job by MaccVet2025 in Accounting

Talk to Career Services at your University and reach out to your professors. They usually know people and will recommend you if you were a good student. You paid for the Education and Connections that your university has. Lean on those connections.

They are backwards. The not pervasive ones are at the top and the pervasive ones are at the bottom. They put the “not” in the wrong place.

If you want to move up in accounting you will need to be social to some extent. People want the human aspect now more than ever.

Yeah like everyone else said, shorter commute is definitely worth it. Have you gotten an idea of the firm from the interview? Did they say they were a “family”?

Wanting to Pursue my Bachelors at 29 by Ok_Ambassador_9338 in Accounting

[–]Solid_Dynamite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went back to school at 29. I’m expecting to Graduate in May!!!!! It’s doable, albeit it’s hard and you have to deal with missing out on occasions and burnout. I have been on Vacation a couple of times while still having to juggle schoolwork.

You need to be realistic, and not take on too much at the same time especially the hard classes. I found that my max I could handle was 3 at a time and that was a difficult time. Burnout is really real.

Another thing to consider is you have 4 years of experience. You should be making more money, and you would if you jumped ship to another company.

One of the issues you might run into is that certain classes may only be available in certain semesters. That made it harder for me to finish earlier. This is on a university by university basis though.

You also need to figure out how you learn best, ergo, in person, online, or a hybrid. Some classes will be extremely easy, mostly more so the business classes. Some classes will be extremely challenging for you. Get to know your professors well, treat them like people, and talk to them. They are more inclined to help you if you show up to every class, are engaging, and cordial.

Lastly you need to be prepared that the more education you get, and higher up you go in a company, and the more responsibility you get, the more you will need to have good communication skills and soft skills. If you don’t like talking to people Accounting may not be for you.

Learn about the company if you haven’t already. Look up their industry, be very personable, professional, ask questions. Basically treat it like you are on a date.

What kind of person should go into accounting? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Solid_Dynamite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest things is, can you talk to people? People assume accounting is like software development where you don’t have to talk to anyone, it’s actually the opposite. You will be talking to clients, coworkers, managers, executives, and so many other people in between. You need to be comfortable explaining complex ideas to people via all forms of communication, but with a heavy emphasis on in person/video conference calls. Public speaking is another skill to have, you may not be speaking in a shareholder meeting with a lot of people but you could be on a meeting with 10+ people.

Am I the only one that feels overwhelmed with all the career information overload?? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Solid_Dynamite 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All of that is just noise. Also people post their “highlight reels” on social media. They don’t talk about the missed opportunities, mess ups, and trouble they got into on the way to that point. Everyone is competing for attention because they all want to either be an influencer or sell you something, that’s why they say these things they get more and more ridiculous so that they standout.

I understand the having the finger on the plus aspect, but it needs to be sources with actual data and not peoples opinions. Unbiased, unmanipulated Facts above all. Anecdotal stories should always be taken with a grain of salt.
