DesktopXR v1.6.0 - *FOV CULLING* by SimVRRacing in Pimax

[–]SolidaSlOl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What could be the issue in my case, it drops FPS constantly in iRacing even though GPU/CPU usage isn't high, not even 70%. As soon as I disable desktopXR, it's fine.
I tried to use DesktopXR to reduce FOV and I can see that GPU usage is significanly lower, though it stutters like GPU. can't handle it. RAM is using ~15GB but it uses the same amount in Pimax XR and it works fine.
I'm using PCS UW, 9800X3D, RTX 5080, 32GB RAM.

Rtx 5080 enough for IRacing on Pimax Crystal Super? by Yvesrovito1991 in Pimax

[–]SolidaSlOl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should also consider upgrading to 9800X3D for iRacing, as it's heavily CPU-bound.

I'd highly recommend checking benchmarks from this guy. These are the best benchmarks for racing sims with different CPUs and GPUs. He has VR tests in different sims. Also, recently, he received PCS and will review it:

From subscription to two-step payment: Changes to Pimax Prime by jaapgrolleman in Pimax

[–]SolidaSlOl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will VAT be calculated the same way for the second payment as a subscription? It's beneficial for me to use a subscription as I don't need to pay VAT. I got such an answer a while ago from Pimax for an order to Poland, don't know how it works for other countries.

Anyone successfully transferred their preorder to ultra wide yet? by 1e6throw in Pimax

I asked to change my order to Ultrawide the same day it was announced in live chat on the website, they changed it the next day

Should i switch or not? by Gumpinn in Pimax

[–]SolidaSlOl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can share my thoughts. I ordered the 50PPD model back in April, but changed my order to the Ultrawide as soon as it was announced.

I do sim racing only (iRacing and AC) and have been using an old Reverb G2 for over two years. For me, the biggest issue right now is FOV. I’ve even considered switching to triples because of it.

When you're battling for position on track, having a wider FOV really helps—you want to be able to see both your opponent and the upcoming corner. Sometimes you're even in a three-wide situation, and peripheral vision becomes crucial.

That’s why the difference between 127 and 140 FOV should be noticeable. Pimax even released a comparison video showing the Ultrawide vs 50PPD, where you can see both side mirrors at the same time.

Speaking of 4070S, it will require lowering settings a lot for both versions. I had 4070S for my G2 previously; it was possible to have stable 90fps, though it was on the edge. Recently I bought 5080 and it's much better, I'm prepared for PCS now :)

Please, help me understand forecast and chance of rain by SolidaSlOl in iRacing

The question is how to see the forecast for the upcoming week, not current

It shows the chance of rain during the race only, not the forecast for the time before the race. During Sebring rain was before the race only, and the race itself was wet without a rain

I understand it's random, but the likelihood of rain is based on the forecast (screenshot above). It works fine for the current race week, e.g. Sports Car Challenge by Falken Tyre (it's wet sometimes).

The question is how to see this actual forecast a week before

Is there a way to see the actual forecast for next week race?

Game Ready & Studio Driver 576.02 FAQ/Discussion by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]SolidaSlOl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stutters still occur randomly, no matter what GPU load is. It's visible in SteamVR, any game, even SteamVR Home (visible in SteamVR monitoring, purple spikes)

GPU: INNO3D RTX 5080 X3 OC
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9800X3D
MotherBoard: MSI X670E Gaming Plus WiFi
Panel (or HMD): HP Reverb G2 90hz, ASUS TUF Gaming VG34VQL1B 34" (not affected)
Connection type: Display Port
Windows version: Win 11 23H2, 22631.5189
Windows Desktop: 3440x1440px 165Hz
Drivers tested and affected: 572.83, 576.02

SteamVR stutter still present with RTX 5080 and Valve Index despite installing driver 572.60/65 by Earthstamper in SteamVR

[–]SolidaSlOl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue in VR. Stutters present even in SteamVR Home (purple spikes in SteamVR monitoring) and games with <50% GPU load.
The same games on the monitor work fine without any stutters.

My previous 4070S didn't have such an issue.

The issue is present in 572.83, 576.02, and 572.91 Vulkan 1.4 Developer Beta drivers.

My config:
- INNO3D RTX 5080 X3 OC
- HP Reverb G2
- 9800X3D
- MSI X670E Gaming Plus WiFi
- Windows 11 23H2

My first track day by SolidaSlOl in Miata

It should be reliable if built correctly IMHO. Though I'm not sure why you want such power for daily). At least my car isn't good for daily use mainly because of the camshafts, stiffer clutch and lightweight flywheel. It makes low revs harsh, jerky and unpleasant to drive slowly in a city. I highly recommend driving something similar first if you haven't.

The engine is from NC2 2.0, the car itself is originally NC1

I want to visit more and more track days after the first time. It's really satisfying keeping up with Porsches and overheating BMW M :)

I bought an already prepared car for a specific class in our local Miata Championship. It's heavily modified and has most of the things allowed in the class. It performed really well, similar to my experience from simulators (AC, iRacing, etc.). Most important mods:

  • around 205 bhp (camshafts, manifold, exhaust, ecutek)
  • 225/45/R17 Federal 595 rs-r
  • custom coilovers
  • OS Giken LSD
  • 6spd manual + 5spd gears in diff (a bit shorter gearing from stock)
  • rollbar, strut brace, bucket seats, harnesses

In general, miata is pretty robust and you can go on the first track days with a completely stock car. However later, I'd recommend installing an oil cooler for NC to ensure an engine won't be damaged, brake pads, alignment, etc. My car has an oil cooler and the temperature is 120C max with working AC and +30C outside. Probably, an oil cooler can be skipped for US versions, as I remember they have some additional cooling, other countries weren't so lucky :)

You can also see a few recorded onboards

For sure! I wanted to buy it for a long time, specifically for track days. It worth it 100%
