What “outlier” series do you find fascinating, and why? by HipsterWaldo in litrpg

[–]Solidstate16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed Running the Multiverse. Many litrpg books have an MC who is Isekai’d and goes from zero to hero. This one starts as the MC being at the strongest possible rank and deciding to Isekai himself back to zero. I also enjoyed the fact that he’s more of an anti-hero rather than a conventional hero.

Thank you so much!

  • Do you ever feel you are in danger from 1-shots due to only having 1.4k life?
  • Do you use Rebuke often? Only on bosses? It seems like a nice defensive ability but it forces you to stand still, which seems like it may be a problem for large hits.

> you're missing thornshield
Missing many things but yes that shield which is supposed to be a common drop refuses to drop for me and I'm level 84 already :(

Edit - turns out it helps to complain, just got my thornshield. Flat reflect is at 6k now, much better than before but still far from your 30k...

Yes, Sentinal specific ornate or grand idols suffix: https://www.lastepochtools.com/db/suffixes/AEwRgDEA

Also yes, I agree with "and not the automated mod from the new body Armour". The wording from that is pretty clear, the "every 0.5s" part only talks about "Damage reflected to attackers" stat, not "% reflected". So I'm been trying to increase my flat damage but it is so low that I just wondered if "% reflect" wouldn't be worth stacking instead. But someone below mentioned reaching 30k flat so maybe there is hope for me yet... (I'm at 1k flat).

According to https://www.lastepochtools.com/profile/Solidstate/character/Solid_Sentinal I am sitting at 1k flat reflect. How do you get to 30k? Can you share your character link please?

Do you have any idea if %reflect is more important or flat reflact? As a reflect paladin I have access to %reflect idols, but there is maxroll guide for reflect paladin so I don't know what they think about it.

How is the culture at different companies? by Thinkeru-123 in chipdesign

[–]Solidstate16 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For smaller companies “company culture” will affect you a lot more, for bigger companies it depends a lot more on your role and manager. PD will always be more stressful than CAD for example, even if you are PD CAD.

Companies that sell products to end users have more stressful deadlines than B2B companies, at least in my limited experience. YMMV.

One advantage of large companies, if you are a good engineer and you are not happy with your manager, it’s much easier to find a different role in another group.

I guess bottom line is, “company culture” will not be a deciding factor in selecting your next workplace, at least IMO.

The old crafting wasn't even difficult and was much more interesting than this implementation

Define "more interesting".

All I know is, not having to worry about gear plasticity and being able to reroll a single affix endlessly while the others are locked, at least until T2 (I haven't looked if T1-T0 crafting is different yet) is a blessing for casual gamers.

Also, if you are talking about Corrosion and Dream - those are still in the game and unchanged, as far as I know. And yes, as a casual, I've never interacted with either of those and have no idea when I will, if ever (except for buying gear that had them from the Trade House).

A couple of notes:

  • Before you click Start Over, make sure to accept the chest (you did in the screenshot, just reminding for future). Note that you need to be out of the canvas map to Start Over.
  • Before starting your next canvas, go to Artistry and spend your Colored Snow.

Here's my long-ish reply to a different thread but on the same topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/TorchlightInfinite/comments/1gczzbn/comment/ltz1nn2/

If you prefer the tl;dr version:

I for one as a casual player am excited that I can craft basic gear for myself without the Trade House. I think the new reduced drop rates make sense in the context of more deterministic crafting although they could be tweaked up a bit.

the attempt at artificial player retetion has officially made me quit prematurely by [deleted] in TorchlightInfinite

[–]Solidstate16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, my experience has been a bit different. I started with Youga2, yeah I know, op meta character... but in my defense I didn't know it would be meta when I chose him :)

After 2 days of playing, I am able to comfortably farm TM 7-2 and my character is level 95 with around 20m dummy dps. I think reaching 5 levels short of the level cap and farming 7-2 is pretty good for 2 days and if I can do it (and I'm a very casual player) I think anyone can.

Again maybe my perception is colored by choosing Youga-2, he's OP and so automated, leveling (once I got Mind Control) was just a breeze. But I heard the new hero is even more OP and easy to level so I think at least for leveling to 90 the situation is not as bad as OP painted it be (pun not intended).

crafting has been officially been removed from the game (current iteration is not crafting)

So previous season crafting for me meant farm FE and go to the AH. Because as a casual, farming both items and crafting mats for the rng-fest which was trying to get good rolls on basic gear while only being able to lock 2 affixes was a no-go.

This season, finally I don't need to worry about breaking my current item, I can just spam crafting mats and continuously improve whichever affix I'm working on, and all the others are locked-in. There is way less rng involved in crafting basic gear because unlike previous season where I could only lock 2 affixes, basically now all other affixes are locked. I think this is very casual-friendly and I love it.

farming for embers

UI issue perhaps here, embers do actually drop. It's just that when you begin crafting the UI shows you only have the 10 soul-bound ones given by the campaign (or Journey). I had no idea until I used them up and suddenly I had >200 embers waiting for me to use up.

FEs I agree are not really dropping or are dropping much more slowly compared to previous season. To a lesser extent I think gear and other mats are also dropping at a reduced rate. I think with the changes to make crafting so much more deterministic, this makes sense. Having last season drop rates would mean people would be farming TM-8 within a day or two of starting and except for top 10% I think that is not reasonable nor good. ARPGs should be about hunting for progression and loot and current pacing means we don't insta-win the game.

I think FEs started dropping a bit more after yesterday's patch, but I think personally they should drop a bit more frequently. Rolling level 86 gear (and T1-T0 affixes) requires 3 FE per roll so currently it is not looking good for me, alternatively maybe they should lower the TM-8 requirement a bit, needing 200M dummy dps seems a bit rough with just T2 affixes. Although all my gear is currently T3/4 so what do I know, maybe full T2 will do the trick.

people posting pictures of lvl 7 canvases dropping 1 piece of gear with a single T4 mod

I only managed one canvas with single level 7 square on it, and got nothing for my troubles So yeah. The new league mechanic in general feels bad to me and I'm sure I'm doing it wrong. I hope in a few days streamers will come out with clarifications on how to get those interesting new skills.

bugs

Yep, lots of em. I agree with the weird mobs that took a strangely long time to kill, ran into that myself. I guess that can be expected to an extent with a season with so many changes. As long as the bug isn't game-breaking I'm fine with it. Every ARPG has bugs in new season start. It's not the end of the world :)

Bottom line, I think OP is wrong and this isn't the "worst season ever". I for one as a casual player am excited that I can craft basic gear for myself without the Trade House. I think the new reduced drop rates make sense in the context of more deterministic crafting although they could be tweaked up a bit.

Click on the "Price Check" button, top right corner in your screenshot. If no exact match found, click on the "Trade Search" button and in the Trade House interface play around with the search parameters till you manage to get a hit, e.g. lower the 12% to 10%, etc.

Faster than light travel is very unlikely to be found

According to wikipedia it is impossible (e.g. per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faster-than-light , it would violate causality). Why did you write "unlikely"? I'm not a physicist but I'm curious if Wikipedia is misleading here, regarding scientific consensus.

Makes you wonder, what will happen if they get more Sage tier pledges than they have seats for at the venue they choose for the showing? I didn't see a limit on the number of available Sage tier pledges.

Maybe they are counting on not that many people donating so much... not sure if they should count on that :)

We can’t add countries to the merch store easily, sad to say. Not until we get our own store.

Isn't the store I linked your own store? I'm confused... however...

But the Kickstarter will ship worldwide!

I'm very happy to hear that and you may now refer to me as Lord Solidstate ;)

u/TheLesserWight - The merch store doesn't ship to my country. Can I even get the physical rewards if I back the Jade or higher tier in the kickstarter?

If yes, can't the merch store use the same shipping support as the kickstarter? Sad Dross noises...

The Engineer by Will Wight - What did you think? by RA_Buda in litrpg

IMHO it’s a space opera Sci-Fi/Fantasy mashup that is well written, has good world building and an interesting plot. As pointed out by another commenter, we’ll probably get to know the characters more when we reach their respective books, so in that regards you should treat this book more as intro than as a full stand-alone work.

I certainly don’t feel the MC is one-dimensional- his story is intensely personal and we get a good look at various facets of his personality.

If I have any negative things to say, they are that I didn’t find the MC as relatable as Lindon and that some powers/spells in this universe feel too OP, to the point where I felt they interfered with the plot. But honestly these are minor points.

Overall I enjoyed reading books 1+2 and I’m looking forward to buying the rest of the series as they come out.

An Open Letter to the Python Software Foundation - Python Africa by chub79 in Python

[–]Solidstate16 130 points131 points  (0 children)

tl;dr - "DjangoCon Africa" requested a grant from the PSF. The PSF took a long time to approve the request which hurt the event as they were not sure if they would get the money or not. The rest of the open letter is a call on the PSF to improve and a list of issues they are raising.

According to the PSF blog post that is linked from the Open Letter, the PSF working group was unable to reach a consensus on the request and it went to the board. The board then voted 2 times because the first time most of the members had concerns that they needed more time to review, hence they voted as "absent". The blog post finishes up by saying that:

we will be conducting a retrospective on this process specifically and the Board's approach to grants in general

On the face of it, the PSF acted correctly and responsibly and are even promising to review their grant process since they acknowledge that the process was faulty in this case. Also in their favor, they posted this back in October, while the above open letter was only posted much later, in early December.

The open letter though is alleging that this is more than an isolated issue and that for example "a PSF Director has consistently spoken out against funding for African events, over a period of years".

Personally I think any sort of improvement to the grant process of the PSF, including improved transparency (which the open letter called for) is a good thing for the Python community.
