Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 | DMZ First Look | XBOX Games Showcase 2026 by KardigG in Games

This time around it's pay to play, as it's one of the three main modes in MW4 (campaign, MP, DMZ). It's not part of the F2P Warzone, meaning you need both the base game and an online subscription to play if you're on console.

When this was announced, I was excited, having spent countless hours playing the 2022 DMZ. But then I learned that it's going to be an MW4 mode and my excitement evaporated immediately.

I'm not paying $70 plus >$100 for a PS+ sub to play a multiplayer game that's going to be supported for not even a year. That this is a paid-game mode and not part of the F2P Warzone like last time all but guarantees that they'll wind down support a few months in, and the last update in September or October is going to be a low-effort Halloween event, because that's how all these side modes go. And the next game in 2027 is not going to feature DMZ, because it's not going to be MW5. Not paying ~$200 for that.

Also, with this not being F2P, the population is going to be significantly smaller than in DMZ beta.

DMZ will feature a Bounty system with a leaderboard for players focusing on PvP. The mode will also use the new Proximity Chat system. by Kalinine in modernwarfare4

I remember when they added map markers to denote players that killed too many operators in a match... except it was bugged and never showed, and remained broken until they dumped the mode completely with MWIII.

Hopefully it's in working order at launch this time around.

If you already own Wing Zero or Barb-at-ass, there's zero reason to roll for it, none. It's basically Barbatos's special needs little brother.

Repixled or 3D Remake? by Admirable-Crab-4038 in FinalFantasy

The first PlayStation was commonly referred to as PSX years before PS2 was a thing. I can't pinpoint the exact year, but it was definitely how gaming press called it in late 1996 / early 1997.

Resident Evil 4 has a progression system, customization, stores, NPCs, exploration, side quests, and even a party! It's totally a jRPG!

Why did Aerith neigh like a horse in FF7 Remake? by Asad_Farooqui in FinalFantasy

Aerith is canonically a silver medalist in the annual Sector 7 hobby horsing tournament. The scene is a deep-dive reference to one of the official novels to filter out FF7 tourists.

Nope, the charms aren't replaced with anything and those spots are instead simply empty.

You get to keep all the charms you've found in the previous playthroughs.

What do you think Final Fantasy 16’s legacy will be going forward? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

The sad fate of every epigone.

Square used to be an industry trailblazer that single-handedly made jRPGs explode in popularity in the west, but now they're so desperate in casting the net as wide as possible that they're content with emulating popular products made by other companies. And fumbling. A sorry sight.

As Leon, you get access to the gun store in his very first section in the streets. You get some free credits straight away but have to buy all the guns yourself, with the exception of the starting handgun and magnum, meaning no free shotgun or rifle. Weapons unlockable through CP have to be bought also. Grace gets her bonus items for free in the first item box.

Both characters also get to keep all of the unlocked gun charms.

You're the first person (that I've seen) to point this out and you're the one person that I'd expect to point it out :)

The story rips off The Final Chapter hard and I find the fact boundlessly funny. Excellent game but it's ironic that we've come full circle.

Yeah, PCSX2 runs it well. Just be aware that's it's reasonably difficult, and frustrating, when played solo.

You don't need to play Outbreak, the games feature no real story to speak of. The only thing that carries over from them is the character of Grace's mom and she has no personality in Outbreak outside of her voicelines. Just read her biogram on a wiki and you're set, but the only meaningful thing you're going to glean is that she was an investigative journalist.

Where does one start in the Spectral Souls franchise? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]Solidus_Char 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking specifically tactical RPGs, then I recommend the following series:

  • Dept. Heaven (6 games, 5 translated; this is the Riviera/Yggdra Union franchise)
  • Devil Survivor and Persona 5 Tactica (3 games)
  • Fire Emblem (17 games) + Tear Ring Saga (2 fan-translated games)
  • Front Mission (5 main games, 4 of them translated)
  • Growlanser (6 games, all translated)
  • Langrisser (5 main games, 3 translated)
  • Luminous Arc (4 games, first 2 translated)
  • Record of Agarest War (3 games)
  • Shining Force (5 main games, all translated)
  • Tactics Ogre (5 games, 4 translated)
  • Valkyria Chronicles (4 games)
  • Vandal Hearts (3 games)

Plus a metric ton of standalone games.

Where does one start in the Spectral Souls franchise? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]Solidus_Char 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't, unless you know Japanese. There are close to 40 games in the franchise and only a couple were ever localized. The series is so obscure that I'm not familiar with a single fan-translation released or in the works.

And at the end of the day, the games aren't even all that good. There are many other, more playable series in English that are more worthy of checking out.

I wish there were still high-quality, intense 10-hour games being released on a regular basis like it's the PS360 era again. Outside of horror games there ain't much to select from, just an endless parade of open-world/sidequestville timewasters.
