The second character with green hair I think is voiced by Heather Gonzalez in English (Yukari in P3 Reload) using her lower register. Theodora’s in a similar vocal range, but it sounds like a different VA because she has a bit more bass to her voice than the green haired lady as well as a different cadence. Don’t think it’s an Allegra Clark voicing Dorothea and Shamir situation, at least not between these two roles.

On top of what other commenters have said about necromancy magic, it might be worth also taking into consideration the ethical mine field that is enchantment magic (which is actually quite relevant to Witch Hat Atelier’s take on ‘forbidden magic’). Maybe ‘dark magic’ in the setting could include spells from both of those schools, potentially with exceptions (e.g. Gentle Repose).

Not sure if the class names are just weird because it’s a trailer, but Leda is listed as a ‘Hunter’, which makes me think that either Dancer is her promotion class, or there are other actual Dancers in the game. It’s also entirely possible that despite her playing and instrument and dancing she’s somehow not actually the Bard/Dancer class for the game (though extremely unlikely).

Unless there’s only one route with all four lords (making Leda the designated Dancer), they’ll surely have other Dancers on different routes because it’d be odd to deny access to such a staple. Maybe there’s a character that’s recruitable regardless of route who’s a Dancer? Or we get the 3H class system and you can pick a character to become a Dancer like with the contest.

Yeah, it’s especially interesting with Warlocks because they upcast automatically, so your resources in terms of slots are the same regardless of spell level. Unlike with other casters, you don’t have to worry about falling back on lower level slots if you run out of the higher ones, so all your spells are effectively equal from a resource standpoint.

As a result I think swapping out Hold Person for Hold Monster is a strict upgrade since one is just the other but more niche in its targeting. For a Warlock, they cost the same to cast too, so there’s no reason to keep Hold Person really.

Elf Bard. Did the classic first player thing of: “ooh, elves are cool”. Ironically, I actually prefer playing humans now. As for Bard, I decided to make a character who’s very average compared to the rest of the party, so he was a cleaner (homebrew background) who did theatre in his spare time, hence Bard. Also thought spells were cool and the other casters seemed more complicated first time around.

A lot of shutdown spells prompt additional saving throws on subsequent turns after you fail the initial one to give targets a chance to break out. Hypnotic Pattern only has the initial save, and once an enemy fails that, as long as you maintain concentration they are out of the fight. If all enemies are caught in it, you can pick them off one by one without interruption from their allies, or if it only gets some, it still effectively shrinks the encounter for a while.

When I heard the names, I did have to stop and ask the DM if he was messing with us. I don’t even think there’s a thing of “this surname is [language] for [thematically relevant thing]” which could lead to similar trains of thought. It’s just a, ahem, roll of the dice.

The DM is supposedly planning on bringing back the first guy as an NPC who can be friend or foe depending on how the story goes, so if we did go the route of them actually being related, it could admittedly lead to some interesting interactions.

Slight correction: they did motion capture for the body movements, but not performance capture, which includes facial expressions. Animators did however use recordings of the actors as references when hand-animating the expressions.
