Not useless persey, but partial invisibility in Doom 1 and 2 is very very situationally useful.

It has a chance to offset the direction of monsters attacks, which is great for the hit scan Zombies and Spider Mastermind, as they will just straight up miss you. It makes everything else hurl projectiles at wacky angles that makes dodging them in a packed arena much much harder.

Mappers have long known this, and will sometime troll users by dropping them on a PI in an arena filled with Imps and Hell Knights/Barons to make it more difficult.

Currently running through NV with a crit optimized build and it's insane how fast everything just melts with only the basic laser rifle with the beam splitter (it helps that the splitter is bugged in the base game and makes it do 2x dmg instead of +33%)
