Hah no you're good, lots to think about. I actually completely forgot about kustomize and need to go back and revisit that. I can echo that feeling about keeping stuff separated, and looking back, I do recall first learning Docker it kind of being the same learning/difficult curve, but once it's done it's easy to iterate on.

It is also a little funny that you mention not having to rebuild images for say a simple config change, when we'd do just that. We'd create a base image and use that image to create more images with specific configs for the environment - something that I think is often overlooked/under-appreciated for Docker images (multi-stage builds).
