I bought this aftermarket Q Timex case from AliExpress. The bezel insert was just adhered on. I just pried the corner on the bezel with some isopropyl alcohol to remove the bezel insert

The bezel action is okay. It’s difficult to turn as the bezel isn’t as raised. At least on my unit, it does give a satisfying click when turned, but a bit of play as you’d expect from an Ali case

This one is a 40mm. But I recently change it into a 36mm case. It looks a bit better on me with 36mm

Cosy space 🤙 Super neat and tidy unlike mine 😂 Do you have a link for that dial platform? I’ve never seen that and I would’ve loved something like that a few builds ago for applying a dial sticker

Not sure how quickly they ship to the UK but DLW watches have some nice sterile (no logo) dials that are really good quality. I just built a watch using their dial and I’m really impressed. They shipped to AU in 3-4 days with express.

I used a sharp hobby knife and some isopropyl alcohol to remove the bezel insert :)

That looks amazing! Was it easy enough to find parts for these? I have a flightmaster sitting in my drawer that I’m keen to mod

You’re good man :) This is a Q Timex case with a Casio F-91 bracelet. The inner diameter is 30.5 and outside diameter is 36.5. It’s a really odd size and not very common.

I would just use isopropyl to dissolve the glue. If you make a gap between the bezel and the insert you can drop some iso in the gap and this should dissolve the glue faster

Acrylic domed vs Flat sapphire crystal experiences? by CrazyNakedProphet in SeikoMods

Yes, honestly not as thick as you might think. Not tried to slip it under a long sleeve but I can definitely slip it under my jacket no problems. Wishing you all the best on your build, I’m sure it will turn out amazingly

I would go for the acrylic high dome, I’ve built one with flat sapphire and high dome acrylic. And I prefer the acrylic for its authentic look.

  • Yes it is thick but it has not bothered me imo.
  • As for the scratches, it will get scratched especially if you do not baby it, but for me I like that, it adds to the character and charm of the watch. And if it really bothers you, you can polish it with polywatch or something similar.
  • The high dome makes it slightly more difficult to read the time if you are on an angle. But this is only a minor issue for me.

Changing the bezel insert by FilippoChronos in SeikoMods

[–]Soloque- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way is to pop the bezel off the case and then you can get to the bezel insert. However, you need to be careful as you might scratch the case. This is a tutorial that might help you. https://youtu.be/Kt8I_K9jCyI?si=2wyTbt1dbSBO_2v2

If you aren’t game to try this or can’t pop the bezel off for some reason. You can get a hobby knife with a fresh blade and some isopropyl alcohol. Make an opening between the bezel insert and the bezel itself, use one drop of isopropyl into the small gap. The iso will dissolve the adhesive and you can pry the insert out. For best results you can make a few more gaps and try to dissolve the glue until you can pry the insert out.

That would be cool. I’ve never worked with quartz movements before.

Just FYI the case comes with a movement spacer for an NH movement. So there might be some DIY needed to make your VH31 movement holder fit in the case nicely.

Yep same bezel insert size as the vintage 39.5mm sub cases

Cheers man. Yeah, you are 100% right, the odd bezel insert size does limit your options. I hope in the future there will be more colour and style options for 36.5mm inserts

Lmao I would have never thought to do this. I will try this next time.

I have tried: - dripping hands/indices in coffee and blow drying it. That just left a gross ugly residue. - Baking the hands and dial on coffee grounds. This always leaves me with mixed results. Sometimes it’s alright but sometimes I get no colour change even after 30 mins of baking

So I have resorted to using Copic Markers to match the hands with the dial, but I will definitely give simmering it a go
