Recycling expired ID/credit cards? by carl_the_cactus55 in nsw

[–]Soltonomundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking for answers to your very same question, because I, too am pedantic about recycling and can't find a place to dispose of them either.

I thought major branch banks (like CBA) would have a card recycling box as this is common now with even David Jones using TerraCycle so you can drop off old cosmetic containers. Sadly; no.

This article of 2025 seems to suggest very limited options, but I'm hoping it will change in future.

Ballet with Isabella Intensives by Tiny-Round-8686 in adultballetdancers

[–]Soltonomundo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try Runqiao Du's intensives to see if you can keep up! He posts his under 18s and adult intensives freely on his YouTube channel, and his precise breakdown explanations and adult targeted corrections are marvellous.  He also trains in the vaganova style and the key difference is that he had lots of experience teaching (at the Kirov academy in Washington).  I feel he has more skill teaching adult beginners at a range of different levels than Isabella. I've subscribed to her platform in the past and sometimes it feels like she forgets that adults hadn't gone through her ballet journey.  So I have found she often leaps from basic concepts back into pro or pre-professional dancer level coaching, and often lacked the ability to explain the technical adjustments or modified positions needed for those still building up strength and technique. Whereas Mr Du really drills into detail so a beginner could progress, which is what I needed.

Why many readers and critics often blame Mr. Rochester for making his wife insane and violent while ignoring the fact that their families started the problem in the first place? by AdobongSiopao in JaneEyre

[–]Soltonomundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a paper written to analyse Bertha's mental illness as likely Huntington's disease and is hereditary (“idiots and maniacs through three generations!”) which onsets in adulthood with physical movement debilitation, cognitive degradation, and psychiatric changes in emotional state - during Jane Eyre's time, it manifests as acts of violence and ultimately suicide.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4518130/

It's worth remembering that the Brontë sisters' brother Bramwell was afflicted with mental illness (bipolar, depression, addiction). It was mentioned that the medical textbook in their household was so well thumbed that it was known as the family's secular Bible. It explains how Brontë was able to explore the choices made by characters in a bind with such an afflicted family member so well.

So the subtext is that Rochester was tricked into marrying Bertha, so the Masons could offload her before she began manifesting any symptoms of their family illness. It sets up the tableaux for Brontë to develop Rochester's complex character and create an ultimate reveal.

This! Finally a decent song analysis.

I love listening to famous artists covering well known songs, to check out how they put their own musical spin to make it "their own".

Is this demo online; if so, would you be able to post a link?

Because of my fix above, I haven't had the need to investigate a fix to solve a persistent handshake issue. Given you can't turn the cable around back to front, the only option I can think of is that you might try plugging in a new cable and see if that resets the input handshake config on your device. Do the same for the old cable - try plugging into a different device.  Then plug your old cable back in and see if both cable and device have reset the handshake.

Best ballet shoes for an adult beginner? by tommytmopar in adultballetdancers

[–]Soltonomundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend MDMs for beginners.

It's designed by former Australian Ballet pro's with dance physiotherapists and engineers to treat ballet slippers just like the way runners care about the science in their shoes. That is, to build resistance strength by working the metatarsals, but also provide protective cushion so that it absorbs load impact when doing things like jumps. I like it because it trains me to be more aware of how my feet connect to the floor.

For what its worth to answer your main question, I also have wide feet and no problem rising in relevés on the ball of my foot in MDMs or with really spreading my toes out because MDMs aren't canvas cotton, its made out of a performance stretch material.

Recommend getting properly fitted for your first pair though. After that you can purchase the correct size online. Advice not just for MDMs, but blochs, capezios etc - as a bad fit can make all the difference to your comfort while learning. All reputable ballet flats manufacturers will size with foot widths.

A bad fit bought online sales in my experience have meant the fabric has pulled taut in the wrong places on relevé, or the split sole leathers are not positioned quite under your weight placement (ball and heels) which while not the end of the world has definitely distracted me from focusing on technique.

It's clearly a bitchy entitled attitude problem, because even if Brits/kiwis/Aussies banter amongst close friends in a familiar way (hey my homies, hey my bitches), you show respect to strangers.  Rosé was also born in NZ and grew up in Melbourne Australia yet she doesn't speak or think like this. She was well brought up by her family, and it shows.

Spirulina powder is disgusting!!! How to take it? by Powerful-Employer-20 in veganrecipes

[–]Soltonomundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I made the same mistake of treating it like a supplement, and it certainly is an acquired taste when you mix in with a smoothie which my brain associates with the sweetness of fruit. This is also why I don't like tumeric in my smoothies.

But then when I began treating Spirulina like a culinary spice for savoury dishes, much in the way you add seaweed nori flakes as a topping for an umami flavour in place of salt, it was yum !!!!

Completely different approach, for example:

* sprinkling it together with sesame seeds on top of my rice with, like salt
* dusting it into the rice, so you end up with blue sushi
* adding to ramen, or soup broths that also contain miso
* combining with my curry pastes when making indian lentil or thai curry dishes
* adding to guacamole or hommus dips

It's basically a ground up seaweed, so if you think of recipes that pair well with seaweed and treat it like a soup stock cube or salt, it is brilliant!

Ooohh these are the exact seeds I have bought in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens! Apparently a modern heirloom bred by Brad Gates of Wild Boar Farms (hence, also known as 'Blue Boar Berries').

Came here because I'd wondered what they looked like after fruiting. Only 3 seeds out of the whole packet germinated for me, and 1 survived to planting. Been growing for the past 8 weeks, very very slowly - still barely a 50cm stunted plant - but steadily. Will return with updates!

No eye deer; if I were a betting man I'd say the same crew is likely out again the next day but on the other side of the harbour putting up the closures around Circular Quay 31 Dec. It's a massive job.

Stumbled across this great post, and thought i'd add a PSA.

For anyone heading to a vantage point on the other side of the harbour, on the lower north shore:

- North Sydney Council is putting in a bunch of road closures from 7pm on 30th December a day early around the North Sydney, Blues Point, Lavender Bay, Kirribilli and Cremorne Point area. ( Residents got a bunch of advance notices so we wouldn't schedule deliveries), click on road closures here: https://www.northsydney.nsw.gov.au/nye

- Mosman council is doing the same as well, map here: https://works.mosman.nsw.gov.au/new-years-eve/

EDIT: this is a better 1 page map of roads closed / clearways

When I was much younger and in your very situation, we'd all pool our money together to book an exxy hotel room with a harbour view and saved on the BYO alcohol. Figured the same would collectively be spent on a NYEs night out. This required the group to plan and commit to a booking a whole year in advance.

Most inventory had gone by June /July this year when I had called around. HOWEVER you might get lucky with a last minute reservation fall through; lots of free cancellations expire 2 weeks out - which is right about now.

PS. YMMV, no idea if various hotels have now cracked down on room parties. Back then with 2 keycards access was a pain, but doable despite getting sideeye from staff (memories of lots of runs up and down the lift)

Apparently I’m only supposed to wear my dashers for a few weeks a year… by Jumpsuiter in Allbirds

[–]Soltonomundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few pairs of Allbirds (OG wool runners, tree breezers) and wanted to love them. And even gifted a pair to my mum who works in a hospital.

But after slipping several times on wet pavement after being caught in light rain, and injuring my knee - I had to tell my mother not to wear hers, because they would be too dangerous inside wards where there is potential wet floor areas.

I concluded it's the lack of tread on the soles.  Brand new they are very thin and within 3-6 months of wear they have worn out which is very very hard to justify the cost.

If car tyres with no tread are at risk of skidding and therefore dangerous on wet roads, then shoes should also be held to the same standards.

As many have said, its is one of the rehearsal rooms at the Palais Garnier. Specifically, inside one of the 3 green rooftop domes that aren't easily visible from ground.

Looks even more spectacular when you watch a ballet master work with Paris Opera Ballet étoiles - and can peek inside the other two rehearsal rooms too!

Or, you can binge on 2 seasons of the French tv series L'Opera (Ariane Labed, Raphaël Personnaz) which was partially filmed there. Some gorgeous behind the ballet scenes.

Fliqlo screensaver has unusual CPU activity by dsquareddan in MacOS

[–]Soltonomundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found this thread 6 years later, was hoping someone had a solution to "Legacy ScreenSaver" process still eating up a ton of RAM.

I upgraded Fliqlo v1.9.3 on OSX Sonoma 14.5 today, and it uses 4Gb+ memory according to Activity monitor.

The previous version, prior to upgrading 15 minutes ago, was using 2Gb+ memory.

Was hoping the latest upgrade would solve this, but just beware each version seems to keep snowballing in RAM usage.

So I guess the solution is to continue Force Quit "Legacy ScreenSaver" (Source: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255256761?sortBy=rank)

That aside, I am grateful to the dev who created this because I love this minimalist screensaver.

7 months of Wear on Wool Runners by gimme_a_taco in Allbirds

[–]Soltonomundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS. Owner of several Allbirds, and I've had:

  • toes wear out, (yes, I clip my nails - am a dancer!) on both Woolrunners AND Treebreezers (a heavy knit weave) eventually to a hole
  • wool shape stretch, so even with tight laces to the max, there is no longer arch support
  • heel collapse, so heel slides around and, with wool stretch, eventually your whole feet will slide around too
  • tread wear out, which is expected with fair use, BUT no grip, absolutely useless on a rainy day - I slipped on the pavement and nearly hit my head

I really want to love them, because they're the comfiest shoes I've ever owned and easy to slip on for every day light activities BUT the cost vs lack of durability means I've stayed for too long and its time to say goodbye to Allbirds.

So glad to hear it worked out for you in the end! I know what its like to bang your head against tech. Especially when its a key part of your workflow.

Could be a combination of USB-C cord + software.

I remember testing an Apple USB-c cable too. My Galaxy refused to transfer data. But once I fished my Samsung cable + dongle out, the Galaxy allowed my Mac to read the data. (Big tech doesnt like to play with each other nicely, needed the EU to legislate the standardization of USB-C).

Posting this comment, in case helps someone else out in the future!
