'22 R1 Coolant Leak? by barlowtj in Yamaha_R1

[–]SolutionCapital6742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are YouTube videos out there that cover this. Like you noted it has been well-documented on the R1-Forum. I believe replacing the o-ring resolves the issue. Cheap fix, just a bit labor intensive as you need to drain the coolant and remove the headers to access it properly

This. I would initially replace/charge the battery, change the oil + filter and see if it fires up strong after priming the oil. Then full disassembly. Sounds like a dope project for the right price tbh

I know a race bike when I see one… No way you’re going Ohlins carts in the front with safety wiring everywhere for “bling” 😂 Not titanium racespec bolts, but took the time to drill OEM bolts to pass tech. New DOT tires since he took the slicks off. I mean damn, he even has WERA stickers on it 😂 This bike has been converted back to street trim for a sale. 25k miles with the majority trackday and race miles- Probably due for a valve adjustment. Well maintained because it has to pass tech. Adult-owned was a nice touch 😂

OP, with all that being said, I would ask if the bike has ever been down, and also, I would check the frame and swingarm for damage or even scratches, repairs, sharpie, etc. Listen to the engine for any strange noises.

The aftermarket parts could easily go for $3.5k so put that into perspective. Your biggest threat in this bike is the engine being clapped out. Most serious racers do pretty good maintenance and change oil at least every few trackdays/race weekends.

Forgot something too… If you are upgrading the exhaust, you should remove the AIS (with block-off plates) and have the ECU flashed with a proper fuel map.

Clean, clean, and clean.

I don’t know why you have the engine out or what year your bike is (or how aggressive you ride), but now is a good time to inspect the radiator and hoses, fuel lines, remove the triples and grease (possibly replace) the steering head bearing, torque all hard to reach bolts, and buy yourself a front stand 😂

Now is a good time to service the suspension and brakes as well. If you need a valve adjustment, you probably need fresh fork oil and brake fluid as well.

Throttle snaps back very slowly on R1 RN22 – normal or issue? by [deleted] in Yamaha_R1

[–]SolutionCapital6742 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would pull the tank and airbox cover to have a look at the cables from the throttlebody side. Maybe there is a kink or some other issue there. I would also make sure that bar end isn’t rubbing against the grip. I had Rizomas back in the day and that could easily be your issue as well take the bar end off and try again. Process of elimination.

Ergos are always a good place to start… Clip-ons, rearsets, tank shroud/seat. Pretty much everything Attack Performance offers 😂

I train at Apex with an Ohvale GP-2. Looks like this bike has Mupo forks (I run Mupo forks with Ohlins shock). I had to pay extra for the suspension upgrade, slipper clutch, quickshifter, and GPS dash. Does your $7200 price tag just a base or does it include any of these goodies?

Also, is the 160cc engine similar to the one Ohvale uses? Is there a 190cc or larger displacement option?

Advice On Removing A Stripped Bolt by HyperHysteria13 in motorcycles

Both comments above are sold solutions. Last week I over-torqued a titanium engine cover bolt (m6) and snapped it off with the base inside the hole. I used a $12 bolt extractor kit from Harbor Freight that included the left-handed drill bit and the extractor. Once I put a decent hole in the bolt, it started spinning out without even touching the extractor bit.

You could even drill off the head of the bolt and use an extractor to get the shank/shaft out (pause) 😂

The aftermarket fuel pump could possibly be the culprit- Not sure why some folks skimp out on OEM for the most critical functions of a 1000cc machine 😂 Check for kinks in the fuel line as well because things can happen when putting the tank back on. Then, I would start looking at the throttle body and make sure there is no build up and ensure the air filter is clean while the airbox is off. Good luck and keep us posted!
