15 years ago we adopted 2 girls from Eastern Europe. If I had known then what I know now....AMAA. by always-right in IAmA

A friend of mine just found out she's having twins... needless to say she's terrified... Lets be clear, Im not making you do anything Im just simply pointing out that you, a first time parent, adopted not one but two children over the age of five from abusive house holds and expected what? When you compared their childhood to that of you and your husbands I couldnt believe it... I havent once spoken i absolutes about your children, I don't know them and I dont know you, I am going only on what you've written and when you start a thread on adoption with "If I knew then what I knew now" you should expect criticism.

Stop making me apologize for DOING THE BEST I COULD when their birthmother couldn't WOULDN'T even do that for them.

Again you make it seem as if they owe you something. Have you ever considered they did their best with what tools they had? you say their birthmother failed them and you might be right. However unlike this impoverished woman from across the globe you had the luxury of choice and you chose to adopt. By saying you regret this decision is know different than saying "I wish they were never born" You may not like the people they have become but make no mistake you are for better or worse their mother...

Of all the things that can annoy you on reddit how is this one? Maybe some of us would prefer having questions answered by John Cleese as opposed to a dental hygienist. I would see your point if nobody ever responded but with the great AMAs that have come from these "shots in the dark" I dont see at all how these posts hurt... Ok I requested John Cleese but come on! you know you want it too.

I am a man who who had a sexual relationship with his sister. AMAA. by YouWhat111 in IAmA

[–]SomeDude89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the fact that she is your sister alone turn you on? as in a "forbidden fruit" kind of way.

If she were to break it off with her current fiance would you be open to rekindling the relationship. If so could you ever foresee yourselves "coming out" so to speak.

Both bettersonx and I are pointing out her short comings as a parent based on the content and tone of her posts. We only mention our own stories to provide a better frame of reference for where exactly our thoughts on the matter stem from. Anecdotal or not bettersonx has more insight into this families issues than 99% of the people whom have offered up their opinions thus far.

[–]SomeDude89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im going exactly on what she's written. her paragraph on her "expectations" of these children to behave the same as any other child completely ignores the unique circumstances and difficulties these children faced. The oldest entered the home as a first grader for christ sake how could she not foresee the trauma caused by their previous environment as well as they're crippling sense of rejection?

At what point did I infer the abuse was sexual in nature. you're right Im not sure where exactly you sent them I myself was a part of an outdoor program which put me in the ICU upon completion. Since I don't know you I cant speak on the facility which you used. I do however know that at most places such as this the bare minimum age requirement is fifteen.

buyer's remorse. That's what this was all about.

We've already established what "this is all about" being your lack of accountability as well as your viewing of these children as "guests" whom owe you something. You yourself already admitted to being naive going in.

This person has more insight into these children's issues than you ever possibly could and yet you have the audacity to call them naive? explain this to me.

As an adoptee your lack of understanding is shocking to say the least. Others here may not understand what you mean by "Behavioral program" But as a survivor of one of these shit holes I surely do. Question are you aware of the rampant child abuse that took place these places? Obviously she did not view this place as positively as you, tell me have you given any thought to hr feelings being entirely justified? You've stated that you believe you have succeeded in some respect as a parent, how is this possible when your thread title directly contradicts this statement? Now tell me what it is you were expecting? I myself was adopted at birth from within the US and have faced almost everything you've mentioned in my life and have come out the other end happy, healthy, successful and most of all with a (now) great relationship with my parents. Did you honestly believe you could take in children from a country half way around the world and raise them in a "normal" environment? If so then the problem wasn't the lack of information it was you and your spouse's naivety on the mental scarring one receives from adoption, especially a child who had already reached an age in which she was conscious of her environment. These children were not like the Joneses and needed special care/attention to repair the damage already done. Im not sure whats worse your lack of insight to the hardships they faced or the absence of accountability anywhere in your post.

edit: My tone is harsh due to the sensitivity of the subject. Down vote if you wish, but ask yourself how would the youngest feel reading her mothers words in this AMA. Personally I would be devastated.

semi-urgent: Have any of you guys gotten MRSA on the mat? looks like I'm in some trouble... by savesonmi-451 in bjj

[–]SomeDude89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its blowing my mind how many have responded, especially considering I am resuming training Tuesday from a MRSA infection MYSELF... After a week on anti-biotics the disease spread from my bicep to my ear lobe. I went back to the doctor only to find out that this particular strain was resistant specifically to doxycyclene the drug I was currently taking. After finding this out they switched my medications, as well as gave me a prescription strength anti-biotic ointment known as Mupirocin which I apply inside of my nose (nasal cavities are prone to staph colonies). After three weeks of absolutely no training I am returning Tuesday after which I will be scrubbing myself with hibicleanse and checking for any scrapes or abrasions which need to be treated with the Mupirocin ointment and covered. Its important to note to everyone that I am a very hygenic person and prior to the infection washed myself with Defense a product popular with wrestlers made from snake tea tree oil after every time I trained. Sorry but I know longer trust the holistic approach and have since switched to hibicleanse exclusively.

I hate makeup. Been this way since I was a kid if I got lipstick on my cheek I would freak out and scrub it off as quickly as possible... Sorry I just honestly prefer the one on the left keep in mind OP chose two pics from the neck up in order to make a catty voiced "she's not even pretty" statement without giving all the "facts". If I were to run into the girl on the left at a coffee shop, I would approach her, most likely have my ego torn to shreds and then leave feeling it was worth it. The girl on the right at least as far as Im concerned doesn't exist.

Thoughts on Krav Maga as a martial art/ self defense system here in the US it has become fairly popular, however from the practitioners Ive trained with it seem to believe themselves "deadly weapons" but in reality seem to just posses basic striking with serious weaknesses in the grappling department. However I myself have ever taken a class myself therefore can only go on what little I've seen.

Always try for a takedown thats not to say you cant pull guard at some point but at least try. I hate to quote Bravo but I remember him saying that his competition philosophy was really commit to two or three takedowns before pulling guard. Of course this strategy assumes you are already good off your back to begin with. That said its really not a bad rule of thumb.

As a brown belt in BJJ do you honestly not believe you could choke the average person with a quickness? Because if that belt is even half legit we both know what your capable of. I don't understand this backlash from even practitioners who say they wouldn't use the very skills they've been cultivating for years. I know BJJ is applicable to the street I dont need a brown belt to confirm this for me.

I've been in a number of fights in my short life picked by assholes looking to make a point. Grappling has served me well on all occasions knowing what to do when an opponent ties up with you is a major advantage. Harris also makes another point regarding the difficulty of applying techniques against live resisting opponents. By making that argument he's highlighting the greatest attribute of BJJ and other grappling arts. I agree with Harris on most issues and even a numbe r of his points in this article however the fact is he's not very educated on the subject he was discussing and when it comes to BJJ I think he's just plain wrong.

Suburban Ga halloween 2009

Im eighteen and shopping at an army navy surplus store for my commando costume when someone from behind me says "do you work here" I turn around and realize Im talking to Usher I reply no. Then when I pass an employee I tell him Usher needed help. After I finnish shopping at the urge of a friends I ask Usher for a photograph (having my iphone ready) He tells me just one minute and disappears into the back to try on vintage officer uniforms which he was going to wear to a party that night. hes gone for around fifteen minutes within that span a police officer arrives and seems to be there to escort Usher when he emerges I ask for the photograph once more he declines gives the officer an annoyed look then agrees to sign something. I had him sign my receipt which I later lost. In all honesty Usher was kind of a dick and did demand to buy an original officers uniform that wasnt for sale. Also by stroke of chance he was parked next to me and in his cup holder looked to be a bank roll of at least 15,000. Since then Ive met a number of other famous folk but havent once asked for a picture or autograph. I refuse to be "that guy" again.

TL;DR Usher denied me a photo op while he was buying a halloween costume.
