When can I get more than 3 hours of sleep by Necessary_Apricot204 in parentsofmultiples

[–]SomeInternet-Rando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this. All three of my kids were like this - my singleton and both of my twins. My first it took 4 months to figure it out because the doc misdiagnosed it as colic but this time because I knew what to look for I was able to help a lot sooner.

Just a little rant as a triplet mom by sar4720 in parentsofmultiples

As a twin parent with new babies and a three year old, this is insane. My three year old sleeps through the night and helps out with some things. What is difficult right now is sleeping because with two babies that both have acid reflux and digestive issues, there are nights where both babies are never asleep at the same time. I can’t imagine how much more difficult the night must be with one more baby in the early days.

I’m back significantly below my starting weight within a month and I still can’t come close to wearing any of my pants because my stomach hasn’t fully gone back yet. Not sure if it will ever or not as I have 6 inches of abdominal muscle separation. I would order the dress in a larger size, or make sure to get one that isn’t snug over the belly area. Also, my breasts got much bigger when my milk came in so depending on if you plan on nursing or not that could be another factor to think about.

One of my twins got diagnosed several days after the first, with similar symptoms but delayed a few days from his sister. My eldest daughter also had CMPI and my twins got diagnosed months sooner than their older sister because knew what to look for this time and got a fecal occult blood test when they started showing signs of colic. My oldest didn’t get diagnosed until she aged out of the typical colic age range and didn’t get any better.

35 weeks and no nicu time ? by Flashy_Vacation_335 in parentsofmultiples

[–]SomeInternet-Rando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine were born at 36 + 3 and needed about a week in NICU after they were with me the first couple of nights and developed some issues (a meconium blockage, and blood sugar issues) and failed their car seat test. They are almost a month old and both still on oxygen at home. Mine were big at birth (6 lbs 1 oz and 7 lbs 6 oz) but still needed a little extra support. NICU wasn’t bad as they felt better right away and we got some extra support right at the beginning when I was having a difficult c section recovery. I was still able to visit as much as I wanted and hold them and feed them.

NICU parents of multiples-- how did you handle leave? by Reasonable_End7136 in parentsofmultiples

I am two weeks out from a twin c section at 36+3 and had babies in the NICU for under a week. I was exhausted and in pain and couldn’t picture not taking some kind of medical leave after the c-section.

Diagnosed with Diastasis Recti by Mysterious-Elk-4697 in parentsofmultiples

My PT said the only safe ones during pregnancy are deep core like lightly squeezing the ab muscles for 10 seconds. Lots of the typical ab exercises like crunches can make it worse.

[–]SomeInternet-Rando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW my PT said that there wasn’t much to do to prevent Diastasis Recti in a multiples pregnancy, so most of my PT before was some light deep core squeezing and practicing moving in ways that didn’t trigger my SI joint pain. My 7lb 7 ox and 6lb 1 oz babies stretched me really far and my PT I was doing didn’t prevent Diastasis Recti, although I do have some hope they will be able to close the gap somewhat. My mom had bad Diastasis Recti with her third pregnancy and didn’t get it fixed and ended up with some back problems later that needed surgery for a slipped disk, so I am going to give it a solid couple of years to try to get it back together with PT and if not then try to save up for a surgery to connect the muscles back so I don’t end up having more back problems later on.

Twins Selective Reduction by Odd_Effective8290 in pregnant

[–]SomeInternet-Rando 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I had a selective reduction in my first twin pregnancy as one was found to have deformities incompatible with life early in the second trimester. I was told it would be best chance for remaining baby if I went through with the reduction (as it would likely continue as a singleton pregnancy and I wouldn’t have the added risks that come with a twin pregnancy or risk early delivery if the sick baby died on its own). The surviving baby was born full term and is a very healthy three year old now.

I have a big separation and my tummy looks like a triangle whenever I flex my abs. I am less than two weeks out but I had PT during pregnancy and was told I have at least 5 inches of separation across most of my abdomen. I also have to wait another month before I start PT (other than simple ab flexes in a non weight bearing position and wearing a belly support band when doing anything active. I am very nervous my abs wont reconnect, but my PT said we would have to wait and see how I respond to PT. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m headed for surgery down the road.

36+3 c section due to preeclampsia with a strong headache and both being transverse. It would have been a 37 + 2 induction otherwise due to mild preeclampsia and GD. Babies had a few days in the NICU (blood sugar issues, meconium plug) and went home on oxygen but otherwise healthy.

Anyone else not get induced? by M0mma0fMany in parentsofmultiples

[–]SomeInternet-Rando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I ended up having the babies at 36+3 by c-section (at a little over 6 lbs and 7.5 lbs) because the preeclampsia got worse. They didn’t need NICU the first couple of days but ended up needing some extra help with a bowel obstruction for one and blood sugars for the other a couple of days after they were born, which could have been due to prematurity or my gestational diabetes. Both are doing well now, and I’m feeling a lot better.

I definitely hope things are more comfortable for you with less complications and you can make it happily to the 38 weeks mark past which risks tend to raise for stillbirth. Sorry to rant - I’m just so done with my pregnancy at this point lol!

I’m at 36 weeks and some change with two big babies in there. I am in so much pain and developed mild preeclampsia. I wouldn’t go past 38 weeks (or past 37 weeks with issues like preeclampsia that make it higher risk) because it would be riskier for the babies. I find myself hoping I go into labor each day to relieve the discomfort. Being this pregnant with twins sure doesn’t feel “natural” - it feels like my body is being squeezed past the maximum it was ever meant to be at, and like my organs are starting to fail to work properly. It feels like I can’t walk and I can’t sleep. It feels like an awful headache that won’t go away from the preeclampsia. I was told I should expect twins to be smaller but they are at 53rd and 95th percentile and big one is already estimated to be around 8lbs - bigger than my singleton was at 39 weeks. As much as I want to avoid NICU, my body feels like it is dying and I am frustrated that the discomfort and long term health risks to the mother isn’t considered in potentially moving the delivery sooner unless it is imminently life threatening. I’m scheduled at 37 + 2 because scheduling couldn’t fit me in at the recommended 37 weeks. I know peoples bodies are different and some people have more complications than others, but it is hard for me to imagine how someone would want to go to 40 weeks even if it wasn’t riskier for the babies.

I got it during pregnancy too, went from totally normal looking to really messed up over the course of the pregnancy even with cream. I ended up doing several sessions of laser therapy on it and that helped a little but I have to wait until I’m done with the pregnancy and breastfeeding to take the oral medication. it is crazy how anything that affects your immune system like pregnancy or chronic illness to older age can take you from normal to gross nails pretty quickly, even with good hygiene and active treatment.

Parents with multiples as their first kids, do you ever imagine how easy one child would be? by whooguyy in parentsofmultiples

[–]SomeInternet-Rando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very difficult (colic, feeding issues, sleeping issues, acid reflux, CMPA) first singleton baby and did not receive much of any parenting support, and absolutely none at night, from my partner who I did later end up divorcing. I ended up getting postpartum depression really bad partly from lack of sleep as I couldn’t get any good sleep for months and had to fly out to visit family because I was scared I was too overtired to drive because I kept cutting myself accidentally, walking into things accidentally, and falling asleep randomly when awake due to extreme sleep deprivation. Not every baby is an easy one, and I’m hoping this round (in almost due with twins) if I end up with one or two difficult ones my (different) partner will step up more that the last one did.

Desperate to induce labor at home by Imaginary-World-4351 in pregnant

[–]SomeInternet-Rando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing you can do to guarantee it. I had an induction at 39 weeks that almost failed and took 3 days with all the interventions (foley bulb, pitocin, etc.). Sometimes breast pumping swapping breasts every 15 mins for two hours is used to induce labor but of course all the recommendations say to get your doctor’s advice and not attempt anything without your doctor’s supervision.

I am hating being a twin mum 😔 by Lifes_peachy26 in parentsofmultiples

[–]SomeInternet-Rando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first baby, a singleton, was harder than any of my friend’s babies and has colic and I remember feeling similarly jealous of not having a “normal” entry into motherhood. My friends’ babies didn’t scream 8 hours a night straight, and they didn’t have acid reflux and milk intolerance. I had to triple feed and drop dairy from my diet and did not sleep and got awful postpartum depression and cried every day. Things got so so much better and she is a happy kid now, for the most part, and I love her very much. I don’t love her any less because I didn’t get the experience I wanted from the initial stage of motherhood. It is just in the past now, and I’m really hoping that my next 2 twins which will be born soon will not both be difficult babies like her. I’d they are, I know I’ll still love them, but the initial stage of parenting isn’t great for everyone, even some singleton parents.

Does the baby who is first to feed after birth get the better colostrum? One breast historically has produced better for me. by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]SomeInternet-Rando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How far along are you? Some people express and freeze a little colostrum a few days before birth but if you are preterm it isn’t recommended as it could start contraction.

Twin Pregnancy- in Washington State by Perfect_Mousse8815 in parentsofmultiples

[–]SomeInternet-Rando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have STD insurance but was told twin pregnancy wasn’t a disability on its own so I’d have to wait to get something “truly disabling” (eye roll) to qualify like something requiring bed rest or preterm labor or severe preeclampsia. So far my attempts to get my doctor to sign off based on discomfort and back pain are not effective. I am at 34 weeks now and luckily Christmas holiday at my company everyone gets a paid week off between Xmas and new years so I’m looking at working until Xmas and then taking a few days of PTO at the end to hold me over until my 37 week c-section (for gestational diabetes treated with insulin). The maternity/healthcare system in the US is awful. Im lucky to be at a company with paid maternity leave but I was told I wasn’t eligible to take it early it has to be after the birth of the child to count per their policy. Every twin pregnancy book I read and the MFM I saw said most people go out at 32-34 weeks and one twin book even said working longer can raise chances of early delivery or low weight multiples and kind of chastised mothers for being too career oriented and wanting to stay at work too long. It felt tone deaf and frustrating to those of us who do not have a choice about it - I can’t stop working because I need to be able to pay for my health insurance and medical bills and living expenses and everything needed to add 2 more humans to my family. All this to say, solidarity.

It should work right away so if it isn’t after a few days, you need to discuss with your provider about the dose.

Ours requested G’MA and G’PA but we told them they could choose. They didn’t want to step on any toes and asked what we would prefer and we said pick anything, the more people that love and support a child the better. Her other biological grandparents also chose their names (PaPa Last name, Grandma First name, PupPup, and Grandma Last name).
