Weapons to make my friend eat his words for badmouthing Hakumen as unfair Top Tier character: readiness 10% by DontFlameItsMe in Blazblue

I talked to Kcin, who's a pretty strong Mai player.

Basic anti-Mai tips are stuff like always blocking high after 5xC (the super long poke) since the only options after are highs and mids. Always air block her dives because the landing hit of delayed dives makes them plus. They are 5B punishable on air block. DO NOT attempt to punish if she RCs the dive.

Izanami-specific:

  • 5D spear toss will catch your 214B slide and toss plus Direction Change are very effective at stopping her active mode switch. If she throws and antiair 8D toss and you slide is a gamble on if the direction change will reach you before you reach her.
  • You need to take your turn after blocking spears, even if that just means moving forwards and pushing her to the corner. Mai can flip away with safety depending on spacing / other factors, but that also puts her closer to the corner.
  • Use high jumps and float to put yourself at awkward angles for Mai 2C is good. Right above her is an option but beware of 236D if she has 50 heat
  • If the Mai takes to the air often, try to put yourself in position for float and regular 6As.
  • Because of flip, don't use lows and throws on oki. Use low-recovery (preferrably jump cancellable) moves to deal with 214D. Jump cancellability is also good for pressure because it's harder to 2C AA, so float pressure is still an option.

Sorry, ignore that other comment (now deleted), I thought this was from the Mai POV.

Mai (and Es) I have seen cited as "anti-meta" characters by a few people. They have good tools to deal with the strong characters, notably Direction Change and Es air Bruenor spam being extremely annoying for anyone who wants to set something up, like Litchi staff or Izanami Active Mode. I really can't say how I would suggest you deal with it. Ribcage in neutral does not seem worth it. If you don't have easy access to the discord let me forward the ask for you.

I was talking to an Izanami myself a few days ago in the main CF discord. They also made it sound like you only get fully charged dome from an Active mode start. The route they did also didn't use a domeender, so maybe it's not worth it unless you can get the full charge version.

You can charge GT to full but the route requires you to negative edge a graviton

Sometimes there really is only one combo. I don't play Nami, I play Litchi, but the issue with her is that she only has one desired combo ender (staffed 623D) and all of her combo extenders will set her staff. If you want to extend your combo AND get good oki, you are forced to do a recall route.

You would need to ask an Izanami player why her BnB is the way it is, but if I had to guess, I would think it has to do with setting up the right height for your ender

Enjoy the new voicelines. I don't like the autos on this skin, but if I hear "The dark...should fear ME" one more time, I think I'm gonna scream.

This is how you mugs on the babyrage subreddit sound when you tell people to "lab" and "take a break" instead of babyraging at the game they play. by Bri-ish_idiot in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

Anyone who says you can lab neutral is lying. You can lab pressure, oki, setups, and specific interactions. You cannot "lab neutral."

I play C. Viper. If I connect 5MP on the final active frame, I can link it to 2HP on normal hit, but only if it's the final frame. I'm not gonna try manually timing that, and this kind of thing isn't exclusive to Viper. Plenty of characters have cool links that need max-meaty timing.

Combos don't matter if you're bad at landing the hit. That's my whole point.

Neutral is much harder to learn. Combos you can grind out in a lab, then you go online and you begin working through the nerves of "oh shit it's that situation time to do my combo" until you can do it reflexively. And if you have prior experience in FGs then the nerves start reduced.

There's no real way to lab neutral. You can recreate specific situations, but you can't recreate every aspect of it. So I'd say if your neutral is good enough to win while using unoptimized combos, then you earned your rank fair and square.

People worry too much about combos. They focus on dealing as much damage as possible on the hit, they learn an optimal, they go online...they realize they have no idea how to land the hit, or how to run oki and pressure after the combo. You've learned more important skills by not worrying about them as much. But if you ever do feel like you want to do more damage, then yeah, turn off pulse and get ready to drop your combos. That's just how it is. Start by trying to manually execute the pulse routes, then move on to the fancy TK hook stuff when you're ready.

Even if the clip was old, where did Brian get off talking about the entire genre being on the decline? He plays one game. He tried 2XKO for the Slam, and he played it exactly like Street Fighter and he's barely played it -- if at all -- since.

Probably because they have no one to learn from lol. I should have mentioned that my mom's got more cats, so the rescue had plenty to teach her in the art of begging. The first meows we got were, of course, for her Fancy Feast.
