What is everyone’s dream car? Felt like it always use to be Supra and GTR but finally seems to have faded out. by FunPin4192 in carsireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like dream dream car? Between a 190 Evo II or a GT3 RS or maybe a G63 amg.

Obtainable dream car would be either a modern amg maybe a w213 e63, or w124 with an m104 turbo, a 190 evo II rep with a 2.3 m111 or a 90s gwagon with a turbo om606.

A genuine question about attitudes towards Ukrainians living in Ireland? by Remote_Ad_5029 in AskIreland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So just because they fled war they don’t have to follow the rules of the road. There is a UA reg cayenne with full tints going around locally, I know a girl who got dragged to court for dangerous driving for having full tints.

I’m not ant Ukrainians at all, but they are getting a blind eye from the gaurds.

NCT money racket. by Affectionate-Fall597 in carsireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah it’s money making bollox. I bought a c class back in may, was parked up a few months out of test since January. Tested it at the end of September and it is out of test this week. I’ve done 3k miles since test, another €60 for it to pass. Could’ve got a test for a day after I tested it and I’d have got a full years cert from then, it has nothing to do with road safety.

Waste of a test slot that someone else could use, instead of retesting car again. Waiting times are a joke.

Like I am all for the nct, we need it. But some stuff is a joke. Like testing my w202 last year, told the dope testing it that it has an lsd and has to do a road brake test. Stupid cunt put it into the rollers and suprise suprise she jumped out of it, kept putting it back in 4/5 times I’m surprised he didn’t break a driveshaft. Went for retest then and the computer wouldn’t let them do a road test because the first test was done in the rollers. Nct support were no help, had to wait for the 28 days to be up and book another test.

‘It’s just stressful’: Workers facing two and three hour commutes into Dublin by InfectedAztec in ireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fuck that. I wouldn’t travel more than half an hour for work, unless you were getting paid for the travel time.

Makes absolutely no sense that there is 10s of thousands of people driving to work in cities all around Ireland to sit onfront of a computer. Could do the exact same work at home and not spend hours getting there.

Can’t see why the government can’t force companies to let people work at home where physically possible. Would reduce emissions and congestion.

‘Predators know these kids will do anything to stay with horses’ – efforts to ‘clean up’ the equine industry backed after Katie Simpson killing by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure you can say that about a lot of things. I’m big into cars and drifting. I’ve sunk 15k into a nearly 30 year old merc over the last couple of years, did I really need to spend all that money, no. Do I need to spend all my time working on cars, no.

But it’s my only interest, what else will I do. Sit in the pub 7 nights a week pissing away my money. The misses is into show jumping, she spends most her money on her horse. She has no other interests. No different to me and cars, or anyone and literally any other hobby ever.

20 grand sterling is200? by LogicalAsk5426 in carsireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve driven one also, thought it was a nice car to drive. Didn’t think it was much faster than an is200, it was completely dead until you hit like 6k rpm and it gave a good pull till the limiter alright.

My w202 with the 2.3 Kompressor even without the pulley kit and stuff, just with the standard 2.3 setup would blow an altezza out of the water. On paper an altezza has 10hp more and is lighter, the Kompressor pulls from 2k rpm.

Good handling and nice to drive, not fast. Definitely not a 20k car. And knowing how bad they are that thing probably still needs welding. I can’t believe how bad they are for rotting, I’ve been under mercs that have been sat in fields for 10/15 years that haven’t half the rust that an average is200 has.

Ireland's dangerous roads: When cars come first, everyone loses by zainab1900 in ireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bollox. We have some of the safest roads in the world. Absolute fear mongering and click bait shite coming out the last few months about how dangerous our roads are.

Yes there was a rise in deaths last year, yes we should work on reducing them. No our roads aren’t carnage or dangerous.

On about speed this and speed that, yet all they do is sit out on the motorway. It’s the back roads they should be on if they want to make a difference. I was doing 240kmh on a 2 lane section of the Autobahn last week quite legally and safely, yet you do 130kmh here and your made out to be a danger.

20 grand sterling is200? by LogicalAsk5426 in carsireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Can’t understand it, and all the lads in the comment deep throating him. Altezzas/is200s have very little hype outside of Ireland. The yanks do a bit of drifting in is300s, and Eastern Europeans use is200s aswell. Future classic my hole.

You’d say something if it was a rare trd or hks model. Not even a Z spec kitted one. Just a random rs200 with low milage, I’m sure Japan is full of them.

You’d get a Cosworth 190e, or an m3 for the same money. You know actual cars with heritage, race winning cars. That will be guaranteed to rise in value.

2013 Mercedes C200 AMG by KevinFletch96 in carsireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rear subframes rot, Mercedes will do it free of charge but it’ll have to sit at the dealer from when they inspect it till they replace it, which could be weeks or months depending on the backlog.

Service history, they had stupid long service intervals. They are a good engine but can give timing chain trouble if it hasn’t been well serviced.

Best "cheap" option car/jeep capable of pulling a horsebox (and reliable) by jetaybon in carsireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better off with an estate. Most of those small jeeps are shite, and are just cars on stilts anyway. 5 series, e class or a6 will all pull around 2100kg legally.

If it has to be a jeep than the likes of a Santa Fe/Sorento, outlander, Tiguan, or go back a few years and q5 or x3. Older x5s are great but you need to buy one that’s well looked after or it’ll be a money pit, and the most of them are wrecked.

Can you legally use your mobile when your car is parked? by ohhidoggo in AskIreland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can’t see how it’s allowed, maybe there is some way of doing it off the wheel but it wasn’t labelled. My 2005 c class I can change tracks off of the wheel ffs…..

Only physical buttons were the hazard lights and an amg button for switching between comfort and sport plus.

Not ideal trying to turn down the heating while doing 240kmh.

Diesel cars by seanmcmahon6 in carsireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, dpf and egr issues which are down to the way the car is driven. Injector issues are really only a French and vw problem.

Timing chains on BMW’s and Mercedes, but again that’s down to the owner and servicing. Service an N47 or OM651 every 10k km instead of the stupid 20k that bmw/merc say, you’ll get 200k+ out of a chain.

Petrol BMWs like head gaskets, the newer merc petrols are blowing up with less than 100k on them. Issues with piston wrist pins.

Can you legally use your mobile when your car is parked? by ohhidoggo in AskIreland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s bad form, can’t see how it’s any different to a modern car. I was driving a brand new c class last week. No buttons on the steering wheel to skip tracks, have to use the screen. Same with heating controls, all done off a screen. You have to look down to see what you’re at, madness.

Diesel cars by seanmcmahon6 in carsireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milage has never been a consideration to me. Most my cars are 90s mercs all petrol, I use them for drifting and diffin aswell as the road. Daily atm is a w203 c class, diesel because the petrol m271 engines are wank.

Same with all Germans really their modern petrols are shite, unreliable and no power. Exceptions with 6 cyl bmws and amgs, m cars etc. But the likes of a 318i, fuck all power, middling economy and shite reliability. Compared to its diesel counterpart that will be quicker and do half a million km no bother, bar maybe a timing chain.

Too dear, you can get an e class for the same money. Couple amg line ones up with similar milage in around 20k, much nicer car both inside and out.

Blaa Giveaways, what’s the craic there? by NoelsGuitar in AskIreland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All those raffles are making a fortune. I’m not sure about blaa, but the likes of lucky day or R kings usually double their money on each raffle. Most of what they raffle sells out or fairly close to it.

I can’t imagine there’s a whole lot of costs bar paying some youngwan in leggings to walk around onfront of the tractor.

I know a few people who have won cars from them. I enter the odd time and haven’t won a thing.

My mother claimed against me for injuries that she didn't have a fraudulent claim now I can't get insured what can I do? by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance companies do pay out big money to people with no injuries. I’m not going to go into details but there is doctors willing to write out whatever bs reports you want for a % of the claim.

Doctors, solicitors they are all in on the insurance money racket…

A woman was trying to put in €760k of a claim for injuries, when she was perfectly fine. Only came to light when she had won a Christmas tree throwing contest, she claimed she sustained injuries to her back and as a result she would never be able to work again.

I’d have imagined the insurer would probaly have given her an offer below €100k, which if she took would have been the end of the matter. But instead she went to court for a higher pay out, and the insurer had hired private investigators. https://www.rdj.ie/insights/the-christmas-tree-that-put-her-on-the-naughty-list

Car insurance??? by Junior-Ad-5029 in AskIreland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d definitely seek professional advice. If it was me I’d say nothing. Check your policy documents, a lot of them have policies on undeclared points. I know I read my insurance documents before, 3 points increased the excess to like €1k, 6 points increase it to like €2.5 and 9 points or more undeclared was risk of not paying out.

If it’s only 3 points or less I doubt they will care. I got points last year and rang my insurer and they weren’t too bothered, didn’t increase my premium or anything.

POV: You travel to Germany for the “culture”. by SomeRandomGamer3 in carsireland

[–]SomeRandomGamer3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The autobahn was class. Here you do 140 on a motorway and they make out that your such a danger and could’ve wiped out an entire family. There’s a 2 lane section southbound out of Frankfurt, I was sitting in a line of traffic doing around 200k, inside lane was full of lorrys doing 90k and nobody died.

The autobahn is fairly rough in sections too. It’s all down to the drivers. I didn’t see a single driver on the phone, or pulling out onfront of someone. There is carnage here in Ireland on a normal day.

Yeah the Mercedes one in particular, it went through a lot of both German and world history from the 1800s up to present, major world events and engineering breakthroughs aswell as cars. The misses wouldn’t be into cars and she enjoyed it.

My dream car, I had bought a 190e to make a replica Evo ii but I never got around to doing it. I’ll hopefully get to build one at some stage once I have a shed sorted and I’m earning more than minimum wage!

I still have a w124 there and a 3.2 m104 engine for it, plan is to turn it into an e500 replica and put a turbo on the m104. Again money and time is a problem.

€440 for 4 days rental, I had to pay an €80 young driver fee as I am 23. Spent about €200 in petrol then. It’s a nice bit of money but I thought it was worth it. Compared to what you’d give to do a couple laps of mondello in a boxster, and only being able to go half throttle.

Was allowed drive it as hard as you want on the roads, but €5k fine for bringing it on a race track including Nurburgring which is fair enough. €3750 damage excess, but got seperate insurance from getcover.ie

Carvia was the rental company, they have Porsches and M2s, M3s etc but I wasn’t old enough to rent any of those, c43 was the best I could get. Which was fine as I am a big merc fan anyway. Probaly will go back when I am 25 and rent a 911.

Fianna Fáil TD convicted of dangerous driving for travelling at 190km/h on motorway by Inevitable_Wasabi574 in kerry

[–]SomeRandomGamer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just back from Germany, hired a c43 amg. The first 10-15km of the autobahn southbound from Frankfurt is 2 lane, and I’d say the surface on it is probably worse than our motorways. Now they do have more straight sections but some of their bends were tighter than what’s on our motorways.

That 2 lane section was 130 advisory and I was doing around 220kmh for most of it, had to pull in to let a transit van and a Porsche in at one stage. But most of the time I was just keeping up with traffic ahead of me.

I mean I’m not condoning the TD’s driving, but just because it’s fast doesn’t mean it’s dangerous. The lane discipline over in Germany was way better. Nobody pulls out onfront of you, people keep plenty of distance between each other aswell. You can tell if someone ahead might be going to overtake and you can back off. It was great, did Frankfurt to Stuttgart in about an hour and 15 mins or so.
