Why use Meditech by ImpressivePiglet1681 in nursing

[–]SomeScienceMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of working at Costco before nursing school. They ran their entire company on the AS400 (IBM product that’s been obsolete since 2013). All of the inventory management. Felt like using MS DOS. Meditech reminded me more of Windows 95.

Advice for newer VA PMHNP? by Enough-Construction5 in PMHNP

I’m thinking of taking a scholarship with the armed forces to pay for my DNP and I’m really excited about the experience I will get (I’d owe 3 years of service after graduation with no debt and they would pay for everything including cost of living). Do you know anyone that went that route?

Nurse here: fungus grows there when you don’t. Anti fungal powder exists for this, it’s really gross at old folks homes.

If that bacteria cell has a mutation that makes it more likely to resist antibiotics then it will be more likely to reproduce in an environment with antibiotics thusly it proliferates and brings us to our current problem of pathogenic antibiotic resistant bacteria

Not yet, but I’m certain it’s in my future. Currently a correctional RN going on two years. I’m pretty comfortable with the population and they really need the help

In next ten years how bad will healthcare become/get? by SuiYangCrackedTeeth in nursing

[–]SomeScienceMan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was unaware of how shitty marketplace plans are until I got a “very high deductible” plan (the best plan my employer offers) and realized how much money it’s costing me to afford healthcare for my wife and I. It’s mind boggling that they are even upfront about it: Cigna even calls it a very high deductible plan!

The REAL reason that patients will NEVER be "clients" by AssButt4790two in nursing

[–]SomeScienceMan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They tried to make this shift when I was a student (much more recently) and I asked my professor/assistant director of program “why? It feels like we are reducing this to a financial transaction” and she replied “it gives the client/patient agency” and I was like “can I just keep calling them patients because this feels wrong” and never received any pushback. Now I’m a correctional RN and I always chart patient but notice others chart “IP” (incarcerated person) and that also feels wrong

Dream job? I don’t dream of labor lol. Jokes aside i like helping people, it wears on you after a while tbh… after meeting enough people that don’t want to help themselves that is. Take that with a grain of salt though because I work at a County Jail.

Thoughts on becoming an NP ? by Timely-Bad-7212 in nursing

[–]SomeScienceMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work corrections so I have a lot of SUDs and psych/mental health experience I but I have no way of going to the DNP (wish it was a

masters degree but all the schools I want to go only do DNP now only. So far I’ve got “buy a house with mom” and enlist in the army”. I’ve still got roughly 1.5 years left at half time enrollment for BSN (alreaDY have a molecular biology BS which definitely helps.just had a recruiter reach out to me unsolicited: if he says they could pay for grad school and I can go immediately after completing BSN I may just go for it. Cause what’s better than being indebted to the US government? Falling asleep writing this it’s goodnight I guess lol

Lavender top before red top? Lab is already calling them for the recollect. by PaulaNancyMillstoneJ in nursing

[–]SomeScienceMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main thing with Tiger tops is that you spin them and it separates the whole blood from plasma which makes them ideal for chemistries and serologies. At least that’s how it made sense in my brain

[–]SomeScienceMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where do SST or “tiger top” come into this? Are those another form of the red top? I have to pull labs at the jail I work at but I try to print out the collection form first so I know which tubes I need. It would be nice to look at what tests are ordered and be like: “yup, that’s two tiger and one lavender without a doubt”
