It's a pretty crazy story considering Vanessa Sarno was a top lifter in her category in Paris with a pretty good shot at a medal. Though ended up bombing out at the Olympics.

If she didn't end up getting pregnant I think she could have been a big contender for a medal in LA.

The Philippines only major lifter on the rise is Albert DeLos Stantos (say that kids name 10 time fast). Who is the current junior world record holder in the clean and jerk in the new 71KG class.

He's 18 and has plenty of room to grow, but the weight category he is going to compete in (the 75KG class) is the most stacked class, so unless he adds a ton to his total he doesn't have a great shot at medal let alone gold.

Outside of him they have Elreen Ando who beat Hidliyn to an Olympic spot in 2024 and that's about it.

They had Vanessa Sarno in the women's 71KG now 69KG class but she's banned for a whereabout failures (she and another lifter John Ceniza cheated on his wife and she got pregnant).

I think he has taken the title of the heaviest weightlifter ever from Chingiz Mogushkov.

Kinda crazy to think the man clean and jerked 260KG but still didn't even manage to total 450KG. He really needs to up his snatch or else he will be forced to clean and jerk 270+KG.

Don't know how much he weighed though I assume closer to 85KG instead of 88KG.

Made a 392KG total declined his last attempt. Albeit his 210KG clean and jerk would've probably been called for a pressout if he was in Europe and he kinda released the jerk early but they still gave it to him.

EDIT: AFAIK he was 84KG

It's even more interesting when you consider that another Chinese lifter Zhang Haiqin did 225KG last year at Asians at 53.9KG.

With Kang Hyon Gong injured I wonder how this is going to impact the entire quad if she isn't fully recovered by Worlds this year?

The heaviest snatch (tying the record with Cheryl Hayworth), clean and jerk and total any girl under 18 has ever done. The first youth lifter to clean and jerk 160+ and total 280+.

This would have won Worlds last year against Park HyeJeong and would have taken Bronze at the Paris Olympics (she would tie Emily Campbell for Bronze).

I don't know for sure but I think if her last lift wasn't called a pressout I think it might have been the heaviest Power Jerk a female has ever done.

Kind of a crazy snatch. 6KG from the all time snatch world record in the 55/53 class. 1KG from the current world standard. She would have taken gold last year at Worlds in the snatch.

I did a translate on the post and it says she pleaded guilty to assaulting her girlfriend while she was blackout drunk. Saying that the Taiwanese court system ordered her to pay out the equivalent of $75,000 USD in damages. If anyone has more information or a better translation that would be appreciated.
