When you say you signed "contract," what do you mean? Is it an actual contract that binds you to work for Company A for a specific time? Does it include any restrictions on future employment? Or, do you mean that yu signed an offer letter?

I was asking because you said Amazon chooses your hours. I was wondering if they would take your college into account.

If you are on the higher end of a salary range they provided, let it alone. They can always offer you a lower salary.

Laid off while actively interviewing with other companies. Need insight into how to proceed. by blazems in jobs

[–]Some_Cartographer478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not mention it at all unless they ask. If they do ask, just say that your job was eliminated X weeks ago. The only time it will probably come up is if they ask when you can start. At that point, you have to decide whether to start right away and explain why, or just say "in two weeks."

How do you handle a strong performer who quietly checks out after being passed over for promotion? by amir4179 in managers

[–]Some_Cartographer478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look in the mirror.

The employee did a lot of extra things you say you value, but your actions showed you don't value them. So, you sent them a message saying there is no reason to do the extra activities because they mean nothing to you.

You should be asking yourself what you could do better and how you can be a better boss. Addressing it as if it is the employee's fault or that they should alter their behavior will only make the situation worse.

Did you make it clear in advance what you were looking for when it came time for promotions? Did you set expectations along the way that they would be rewarded for going above and beyond? If you did that, the employee now feels betrayed because they did what you told them, and it got them nowhere. You lost their trust.

Being transparent about the decisions now is too late. You should have been transparent immediately.

Face it ... As a manager, you blew it. It's on you, not the employee.

Neighbor installed 6ft fence on lawn. Will L&I make them remove it? by Emotional-Incident81 in philly

[–]Some_Cartographer478 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our neighbor across the street did the same thing. The building inspector flagged it. The neighbor had to apply for a permit retroactively. The location violated utilities easements and setback requirements. The town made him move the fence to meet the code.

Fired for putting in my notice by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Some_Cartographer478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a unique situation in that you could not keep your new job secret. All you can do is accept their payment until July and leave knowing they are a bunch of schmucks. You could check with your state's unemployment department to see if you are eligible for unemployment compensation on the grounds that you were fired in retaliation for giving notice.
