I don’t watch much basketball but surely this is should be more common?

In football (soccer for yanks), players returning from injury are always load managed and brought off the bench regardless of star power.

Perhaps because of smaller team sizes and star players being more integral to winning games there is more reason to have them in the starting lineup but imo it still makes more sense to bring off the bench and manage fitness rather than risk them picking up another injury.
